His wages will have been cut by 25% this season since we're not in CL. So assuming he's on £300k when we are, he'll be on around £225k now (with Villa paying 75% of that, being ~£169k).

Us winning the EL and thus qualifying for the CL next season would probably make him harder to shift in the summer.

It’s funny because people like @Wumminator frame themselves to be taking up some sort of intellectual position when they defend Rashford when the reality is you have to be really fecking dumb to actually think that Rashford is anything other than a very limited player now that phones it in.

Imagine watching him walk around for the past couple of years putting in zero effort in and thinking you see something others aren’t seeing. Or imagine watching him pick up the ball two or three times a match and just running down a blind alley because he doesn’t have the vision to pick out a pass or the skill set to beat his man and thinking “yeah this guy is elite”.

I’m actually embarrassed that you’d try to make that argument, whether you’re wumming or deadly serious I have no idea which is worse.

After not playing for months - he’s gone to Villa and in around 540 minutes (six games) he has two goals, four assists, got the defender sent off in a CL knockout and hit the free kick that lead to Villa’s goal against Chelsea.

Hope he comes back, smashes it for us. He’s our best attacker bar Bruno for me.
Think too much has happened and that the general pressure on him at the club because of who he is is just too much at this point. Also he just doesn't fit Amorim. As a player when he's happy he's definitely our best player after Bruno, but that version doesn't exist for United anymore. Better to get him off the wages and get a transfer fee while he can play at a lower pressure environment for a manager who just suits him better.

I get players wanting to challenge themselves, but they also need to be smart for themselves. Career choices for what club you play for go a long way to determine what level you'll reach as a player. Sancho was seen as a world class talent at Dortmund, but just doesn't fit in the prem (especially not the clubs/roles he was tried in). Had he stayed in Dortmund he could've been a Bundesliga legend. Rashford needs to realize that Villa is more his level and he suits that style of play. Forget the big glamorous clubs and just enjoy your football where he fits better with Villa.

What do you think of Tuchel and Emery?

A tad harsh I think! But sometimes it just doesn't work at one club and it does at another.

I think Rashford is a good player, something obviously went wrong at United and he just wasn't up for it anymore, we've all seen it at work where someone who has all the skills and enthusiasm feels they've been treated unfairly and just go a bit quiet and start doing only what they have to. At that point it's always best to move on.

I thought a new coach would change it around for him, that clearly didn't happen, but a new environment and new team mates is clearly beginning to work.

Given the amount he earns you clearly need to be shot of him, but I'd happily have him at Brighton and I think he'll do well wherever he goes, he has the talent, he just needs the right surroundings to shrug off whatever chip he got on his shoulder at United.

I think Emery won’t bother to sign him and I think Tuchel will was right to call him out as lazy after his performance.

Your world where it is “dumb” to think Rashford is still good is a world where Emery has him a starter at Villa and Tuchel started him for England.

Rashford wasn’t good for us for a while. He was injured and in a poor poor team with a lack of movement up front. Still our best attacking player bar Bruno in that time period mind.

What these posters want more than anything is to be right rather than have any actual thinking, was it right for Rashford to leave probably Is Rashford still a very good footballer absolutely, Emery and Tuchel aren't a charity

Blatantly obvious why Rashford was struggling at United, so it's also obvious that his form picked up at Villa. I'm not surprised in the slightest with how it's gone.

But for the same reason I think us bringing him back would be a mistake. He'll regress back to how he was before he left.

After complaining about me editorialising literal stats - would be interested how Pexbo comes to the conclusion Tuchel called him lazy.

He has literally called Rashford a Championship player before.
To be fair to Pexbo, Rashford did score his first goal(s) against a Championship team..

Agree. When he is in form and doing well he is good enough to be part of a title winning Manchester United squad. When he is the star player and the one who is expected to carry the attack, he isnt good enough to win the league.

Good player who receives the wages of a highly paid world class player.
Would agree with this description of him. He has the ability to be very very good but for various reasons can't reach that level consistently.

If you’re talking as a super sub for mitoma, yeah could see it make sense.

Is the he Tuchel or Pexbo? Not so clear there
Not good enough to start for Emery in premier league games though.
Anyone sensible would see how little he played for us and super sub is better for a person in that position

He talked about that post game, he said that due to Rashford being out of condition from missing games with United, Villa are easing him in while he regains his sharpness.

4 of his 6 G/A have for Villa have come against Championship Preston & Cardiff and 10-man Brugge

Same as it ever was'd

Go on then. What is the reason?

Other than the 2 goals, I thought he was relatively poor today, honestly don't see what all the fuss is about.

He's never coming back to Utd to be any better than he has been for the last 2 or 3 years. He'll go be average somewhere else.

To be honest, I have as much interest in watching Aston Villa or Marcus Rashford play football as I do in examining my own faeces. So my post wasn’t entirely serious. But, even without watching them, I know that Ramsey has consistently been picked ahead of him, Asensio has scored a hell of a lot more goals than him and Rogers has been getting much better reviews after their last game for England.

If he’s suddenly looking like a player who is worth the astronomical salary we’ve been paying him that’s great news. Even though I find that very unlikely. But fingers crossed, eh?
Lot of words for someone who doesn't care.... Christ it's bitter in here

I mean yeah, the club hasn't hit the expectations the fans thought it should so it's easier to blame all the problems onto the players instead of how the club has been run. Pretty much if you aren't consistently the best player in the planet you should be sold and any mistakes that they make is the fault of the player.

Rashford never hit the highest levels but he's still about above average than most players in his position. I've said it before but Rashford shouldn't have been the focal point of our attack, he just doesn't have that level, but its not his fault that the club never had anyone better than him except for a few players spread across multiple seasons.

We're doing the same with Bruno, Bruno shouldn't be our focal point anymore, he's getting old and his highs won't always carry us. And now Bruno is becoming questioned by the fans. But instead of getting players that are better or of equal talent we keep waiting expecting something will happen. And the Glazers wasted club funds for their own selfish reasons for years so now we're handcuffed financially.

Really great point and I have felt that myself about a few of our players, but haven’t been able to articulate it as well.

Scores 2 against Preston and the media are starting to build a narrative on his supposed resurgence. What a load of nonsense

That always seem to happen with United players. It's pretty weird. I think they believe that the stadium is cursed somehow and all these players that they say are rubbish while they're here are secretly great

It's not just under Amorim. Lost count how many times EtH licked his bum (figuratively), but he still didn't bother to put in effort. And it went all the way back to Ragnick's era, where he's just walking around in games.

It's on him 100%. Nothing about feeling "treated unfairly".

Agreed. Lots of people excuse Rashford and Sancho by blaming Eth or Amorim but ignore the similar problems under previous managers.

There’s no way you are a United fan. Your trolling won’t work on me Sunshine.

Hideous application and being the most mentally weak player in history coupled with his physical decline. His pace has gone which has rendered him pretty useless as he doesn’t have the technical skills to make up for it.
I’m one of the few who thinks Rashford actually achieved as much as he could from the tools he had. His 30 goal season was a one off and his heads been gone for the past couple of seasons. If you take out these 3 seasons, he scored 15-20 a season in all comps which is about the level I think he was destined for to be perfectly honest.

We neec Villa to take the bait and buy him permanently. So I welcome the media to invent as many narratives as they want.

It would also help us ship out deadwood more easily in the future too, under the pretext of they are actually good, just suffering from United curse.
