If he plays like that under Ten Hag, with the same intensity, he can be one of the irreplaceable players in the squad. No word of a lie.

Umm. No. I’d love him to turn that corner. I just hope it isn’t a false dawn.
Have you completely forgotten how bad and half assed he’s been for 18 months?!
Have you completely forgotten how good he was before that? Was it even 18 months or was it just last season when everyone was shit?

Well he’s been good for the last 3, so maybe he has turned a corner.

I really hope he’s turned the corner for United as I can’t give 2 figs for national sheite.
Let’s see how it goes from January til season end.
I’d be loving it if he’s now brilliant in a United shirt consistently, as that is his destiny.
Come on Marcus! Let’s be avin ya!

Can we not have discussions anymore without one side being accused of 'hating' a player or wanting them to fail? It's so tiresome. People have different takes sometimes, it happens.

Absolutely! We’re all United, so let’s be just that.

Happy for him. He was poor first half no doubt. But I feel that his mini resurgence under ETH has benefited the England team tonight.

If anything it's a bit irritating to see him try his hardest for England and pressing like a terrier off the ball when he's spent the last couple of years strolling around like defensive responsibility is beneath him for us.

He's shown as much effort for us as he has for England. Obviously something hasn't been right, but whatever it was, he seems to be getting over it, we should be happy for that.

Many United players having their best World Cup is not a coincidence. Even Bruno was a regular bench Warmer for Portugal before ETH.

I've seen people rewrite history on this site over the years but this one, with it being so close, is impressive.

It was actually two years.

In 20/21 his performance levels dropped through the floor and he was also being very lazy, but he still managed to score and assist quite a lot to somewhat hide that. It's why a lot of people were already worried about him after that season. It's a good attribute to be able to get goals/assists while playing badly, but there's only so long that it can last. Either he would have to kick back into form or the goals would dry up.

Unfortunately it was the latter as we saw in 21/22. He continued being extremely lazy and playing like shit, and now there weren't any goals to hide that.

This season so far there's been a bit of both. Some games where he's actually played very well, some where he's been shit. It's an improvement over where he has been the last two years but I don't get people talking as if he's back to his best. Fingers crossed that he can get there but he's certainly not there yet.

Jesus, please don’t rewrite history, much like the bible.
He really WAS terrible for at least 18 months. Don’t let a decent performance against WALES fool you.
Let’s all hope his hundreds of thousands a WEEK keep his mind on the job. Fekk me. What flakes
I've come to the conclusion that with club football off fans/posters are just really excited when a player they are a big fan of scores. It happened in Bruno's thread and in here too. If Fred was to get a goal in the next game, people that really like Fred will use his goal as proof of why he's good enough.

Its all just a bit of fun to see players we like outside of United and performing well. Once the PL fixtures resume none of the performances in the world cup will mean a thing, just as they didn't for Pogba when he shone in the World Cup and the Euros.

why are people acting like he only plays well for england?

if anything his first half was quite below average.

he made up for it with 2 cracking goals and a nice interception.

can’t people just be happy for him? if he is playing confidently and in a good way mentally it’ll only help his united form too.

The fans on this forum seem so miserable half the time.

Good to see United players playing well in the world cup. Rashford, Casemiro, Bruno, Maguire, Shaw all had good world cup so far.

Rashford should be starting games on the left but it will be Sterling and Saka with Rashford coming on from bench.

Question though, shouldnt he have passed for that second goal? England player free in the middle and Rashford was quite lucky it went through the legs of the goalkeeper.

well he scored so I’m gonna say no

Thats like saying that if a player scores from 40m out he should keep shooting from that distance… he scored that one time afterall…. Or keep Ronaldo on free kicks because he once upon a time scored some. Both are not going to help your team in the long run.

Only watched one quick replay of that goal but it looked like there was one player waiting to receive the ball. Im just wondering if a pass wouldnt have been the better option (higher chance to score a goal) in that situation. Im glad that he scored but if he comes in that exact same situation again and the chance of the team scoring a goal is higher if he passes the ball than i would prefer it if he passed it next time.

This might be the worst comment I've read on here in years.

I'm upset England won. If England were playing ISIS I'd be on the fence. So I'm not exactly delighted 3 of our players are training in these conditions for longer.

However, the performance by Rashford today was brilliant. These moments of magic, are a huge part of being an elite player. The Xg can feck off. Kid is brilliant. He has bottle.

Kind of a brutal month for Sancho. Now 3rd string at LW and we could use the money elsewhere...

He clearly wasn't in a good place mentally at times over the past 18 months. He raised his head above the parapet during lockdown to speak out against injustices and then had to deal with the backlash. All in his early 20s! The level of abuse he got (amplified by a fecking penalty miss) could crush a young person but he's managed to fight through it and now we're seeing a young man who's mentally stronger and has a certain conviction about him. I've no doubt in my mind he will do great things for United. If given the chance he will do great things for England too.

God damn that free kick was saucy. Thank God Ronaldo will be off free kicks for good now, we have some really good strikers of the dead ball.

Surprised anyone concerns themselves so much with individual form from the past 18 months, of which Rashford been excellent for the past 4 in fairness. In the previous 14 months we were truly horrendous as a collective under utterly directionless dog shit management.
It was a period at the club where we made even the likes of Varane look average.

It surprised me very little that the second we have a competent manager in place, with a clear direction on how he wants his team & individuals to play, suddenly even players who looked down & out at Old Trafford, like Martial, look a different player altogether.
Likewise it comes as zero surprise to me that Raheem Sterling, away from Guardiola, suddenly looks a very average player again.

Every player got a clean plate for me once ETH came onboard, and since we provided him with top coaching and management, Rashford looks better than ever, you can’t ask for more than that.

Forget the goals yesterday, and even forget the fact he misplaced some first touch passes, and some of his decision making issues in the final 3rd especially in the 1st half.

Forget all that, what I loved about his performance yesterday is that he played with high intensity, constantly making runs, running at defenders, pressing hard, tracking back and tackling and all that, Foden's goal was due to his pressing which allowed Kane to get the ball high up and cross to Foden.

This is the Rashford I want to see back at United after WC, of course he played well like that at the club on multiple occasions, but now hopefully he keeps it yup for a longer period.

it shows something was seriously seriously wrong over the last couple of years, not even talking about the injury. The difference in united players in this tournament has to be a credit to a certain manager who has come in and lifted our players and put some discipline and work ethic into all they do. It’s been brilliant to see some of our players play like this. Now bring it back to united!

Two goals he has scored with left foot. Product of that weaker foot training?

That's just not true. He started 20/21 on fire and was very good both scoring and linking up play. There were genuine Ronaldo/Mbappe comparisons brewing. Then he got his back injury and then he never really looked the same since until this season.

Also people are forgetting that he had basically not had any rest since the COVID break. He had no real chance to recover properly from his injuries.

He was great when football started post COVID, had barely any rest in summer because the next season started immediately. Was really good for the start of the 20/21 season... started picking up injuries around December and continued to play through them until he finally broke in January (at that time he was our best attacker and almost at a goal a game). He rushed back towards the end of the season but he just wasn't the same. Lost EL final in a penalty shootout.

After this season he seriously needed to rest and fully recover. But he went to the Euros, basically lost them for England with the missed penalty and was mentally shot.

I wouldn't blame him at this point to have a really bad next season. He'd basically been playing for over a year without any rest and was starting another one immediately while not fully recovered and mentally having lost 2 finals via penalties.

Lo and behold he's shit next year. Other things are going wrong too.. like Ronaldo messing with the team chemistry, Maguire losing all form and confidence, Ole's stubbornness in playing his favorites through injury, etc. The result being he looks the worst he's looked his entire career.

Finally has a full summer break after this season. His FIRST since the first covid lockdowns in early 2020. He finally recovers from his back injury (which are notoriously hard to recover from), while he started the season slow he starts looking like his old self, has some of the burst and confidence back and looks less depressed about football in general.

None of this is very hard to see. But his supposed fans just didn't want to. Because to them players are just robots. He's lazy and shit and needs to be sold. T rashford. And now that he's starting to come back into it they come here still justifying their fair-weather tantrums to continue to hold his worst against him and define him by his worst rather than his best (which has been quite a lot for his age)

I’m gonna go against the grain here and say whilst he’s scored some big goals and improved a lot this season, his all round game still leaves a hell of a lot to be desired. First half yesterday he was extremely poor, and it almost feels like he scores a couple or he’s one of the worst players on the pitch. I still think long term Ten Hag replaces him.

Good summary.

He was outstanding in the second half yesterday. He’s still only 25, I have a feeling the best is yet to come!

Depends on what you think his role is I suppose. If it's being a forward and creating or scoring goals then he's pretty good at that. Could and should be more clinical with his finishing but that will come as long as he keeps getting into the right positions.

His first time passing was poor in the first half yesterday but he was still England's biggest threat throughout that half. I'd rather have a player like that on the forward line than a player who just plays it safe to retain possession. goals have to come from somewhere!

People need to appreciate what Rashford gives to the team.

Is he the most technically gifted player ? No.

Which means he will lose the ball, he will give it away but I have seen no other England player this world cup making the runs he does.

He gets in behind, he done it in the first half and almost scored and scored one in the second half.

It is so crucial when playing against teams that have a mid block to have runners in behind, regardless of his technical ability, Rashford will always run in behind.

Its not that he is playing low percentage balls or taking risks, he was just poor. He was trying silly little touches that either lost the ball or at best stalled the attack because the player had to recover the ball before we could continue. Scoring goals is vital as a striker but there are very few players that aren't complete poachers who are also not reasonably handy in general build up.

His goals were good yesterday but his general play was poor. In the big games you can't have that. You can't have your forwards losing the ball all the time because goals will be at a premium and in those games a forward who keeps the ball could be far more important than one that scores goals. We already know that Rashford likes space to run into and against good teams you might not have that so instead of being vital, he becomes a negative because he isn't effective at scoring and hes turning over possession too often.

Just something he needs to work on because hes a professional footballer and there is no way he can't sort these little issues out. Hes first touch is fine, it just feels like he isn't concentrating on the pass enough sometimes.
