Looks every bit the player he was last season unfortunately.

I think some were lying to themselves over his pre-season performances.
 
He’s rubbish. He’s going down the Dele Alli route, I’ll be stunned if he turns this around.
 
Thought last season was a blip on the back of a bad previous six months due to that back injury. Started decently in preseason but he’s literally back to square one again. I don’t get it but I’m now starting to think as above that he’s gonna go down the Dele route. Will probably have a career like Welbeck and similarly have a decent game against us when he’s 30+

On the counter they were decent I suppose. But make him play against a deep, compact defense and that disappears very quickly. Has always been the case.

There is literally one area where Rashford is a genuinely high level striker and that’s making a quick run at a slight angle leaving the defence on their heels and playing a one touch finish, usually hard enough and low enough that he doesn’t need to hit the exact corner of the net.

Yup, he simply doesnt have the consistent technical abilities to dribble past players and people seem to think that is pace related and starting to give excuses of his past injuries.

His pace is still there but only suited to a counter attacking setup where he has acres of space to run onto.

I generally don't get too pissed at players missing chances in a one off game (1 was a big miss, the left foot volley was not an easy chance though). That happens. I can forgive misses. They'll make up for it eventually is my logic on it.

That’s a good point, Abraham, Sterling and Foden are all better options than him, just shows how far back he has fallen.

I do get what you mean but,
There's a different between haaland and rashford. Attacking and finishing is still a huge problem for him and we can't afford a player who can't finish these chances. It's more important that he is scoring consistently than he is winning the ball back.

On the one hand, his ability to get past players has diminished massively. On the other, it's good that he sometimes recognises this and doesn't try to force his way through.
 
For me I saw some positivity in his performance, he was getting in better positions and looked like he was at least putting a good shift in for the team, as opposed to last season where he looked like he couldn’t be arsed with it.

obviously no where near what is needed and miles off the sort of player we need, but a small step in the right direction imo.

I mean, before last season Rashford had back to back 20+ goal scoring years. It is a one off, and I'm not gonna crucify him for missed chances (an excellent save and a hard finish on his weak foot is what it was). There's other things to shit on before that.
  1. McTominay time and time again losing the ball
  2. McTominay running with the ball instead of passing
  3. McTominay horrible positioning
  4. Fred giving it away relentlessly
  5. Shaw horrible positioning
  6. Shaw no intensity and standing a mile off the defenders
  7. Dalot no positioning
  8. Martinez being short and Brighton targeting him aerially, and us seemingly ignoring that and not picking up any 2nd balls from those long balls
  9. Not having a focal point up front
  10. Bruno losing the ball constantly
All of these issues go before whatever Rashford and Sancho did today for me. They weren't good by any means, they were pretty invisible, but they aren't the reason why we played like garbage.

Martial. When Martial plays well so does Rashford.

Yeah but my point is there were so many issues within the team before it even got to the attackers that I felt as if they didn't even have a fair chance to make an impression.

Rashford for me, yes he missed a couple of chances but as you say, at least he was in them. It wasn't even a "very bad finish" for his shot, on target and to the side, but the goalkeeper made a very good save. Is what it is. Off the ball, I didn't think he was as lazy as he was last year. More to come, but singling him out today to me feels very reactive based on a chance that he missed and more based on last year.

We had 62% possession, playing at home. You’d think Rashford could at least produce one moment of quality over 90 minutes. It’s not a big ask. We weren’t playing Man City here. I honestly can’t remember a single moment where he did anything even slightly impressive.
 
How many more games like this will he get before enough is enough? He's been absolutely horrific for the last years.
 
That 1v1 was a bit miss but also not sure what else he could do. It was a fine connection and only kept out by a great arm.
 
Nothing surprising about that performance, it's been like this so long now. Really can't think of any cases of footballers recovering form after two years of this, which is exactly what we're depending on both Rashford and Martial doing this season.
 
We lost the chance to sell him this summer while he had some value. Unfortunately, our financial wizards will renew him for the optional year, try to sell him, overvalue him and then find out that no team will be willing to spend more than 15 millions on him.

Not really sure what to make of Rashford at the moment.

There are some people rewriting the past for Rashford though. He was way more dynamic in 2019-2020 than he is now. He had a very good season. He destroyed City at the Etihad that same season.

Maybe playing through those constant injuries has just fecked him unfortunately.
 
He's Marcus rashford with an MBE don't ya know. Marcus only works for Marcus and nobody else. I said earlier on in this thread it won't belong before he fades. When he has to do the hard work he fades, he is not a team player.
 
I've made my feelings known on Rashford. Glad many are seeing the same things and finally realise the pre season stuff was massively overblown. Garnacho played better then Rashford did in any game.

It feels like he, along with the likes of Maguire, Shaw and potentially Mctominay have some sort of protection from within the club though, so I don't expect them to disappear any time soon (ie whilst t they may still fetch a decent transfer fee). For what we could get for Rashford, I'm pretty sure we could find a better player. One for next summer now I think but it wouldn't surprise me to see him survive another few more years in our first 11.
 
Should have been ditched out alongside Pogba and Lingard were. They are of the same ilk.

I thought that Danny Welbeck was already bad by many standards when he was sold to Arsenal, but Rashford is now even worse than Welbeck. That alone drives me nuts.
 
Why are United so invested in Rashford? He’s been shocking for two years now, but as soon as they’d got shot of Rangnick,it was back to briefing about how on it and “happy” he was this summer. He’s still pissing around doing podcasts, interviews, hanging round Primary schools, Twitter, and whatever. The one thing he NEVER does is perform for his employers. I still fully expect he’ll get a new contract this season, though. They’ll give him one as soon as he scores a couple of goals.
