At the time he'd been playing shit for over a year. It doesn't make you clever to try to invalidate past opinions based on current events. Just be glad he's back to his best
No but it was fecking stupid chat because anyone could see the talent was there it just needed unlocking.

He could easily finish the season with over 40 goal contributions.

Crazy numbers... Even as an ardent supporter of his, I would have scoffed if you suggested those numbers for him at the beginning of the season.

@Wumminator I think my one is fair enough and still stands. Perfectly fair after a dismal 18 months and a lack of effort on the pitch. It shouldn’t be included there.

He will never be among the elite, but his pace and strength make him a very exciting player when he is up for it. Nothing wrong with what I said and I stand by it.

Needs to keep these consecutive goal records running. Another couple at home on Saturday will be perfect.

I think that last minute header against Newcastle is the only blot on his copybook this season.

He’s been fantastic

He's gone up about 5 levels from last season, First name on the team sheet with Casemiro.

Why will he never be among the elite?

I wouldnt go over the top after todays performance, as he just got the good pass. On the first goal got a bit lucky with a heavy touch, but in the end scored two goals which count, will add to his ever growing confidence though, which is great. Sure he seems back but we should be prepared for his bad days too. Funnily it may come against lesser teams and he seems to have a good game in him against big opposition, so pretty confident with him staying motivated against CIteh.

To get a good pass he has to be in the right place, his job is to score goals, especially in the no9 position, and that's what he did

I think we can all agree the world is a better place when he's helping United and not starving kids

Why will he never be among the elite?

I just don’t think he has the all around game to be up there amongst the very best. There are very few of the elite who go as long playing as badly as Rashford did.

You look at Mbappe, Messi, Neymar, Haaland, Kane, Robben etc… and they are quality independent of the manager and the set up. Rashford is looking fantastic right now and long may it continue, but the elite don’t go as long playing as badly as he has done. They simply have more to their game.

mbappe is the better dribbler but rashford is way more creative in his passing. The grass is always greener

It is obviously a United forum and there is going to be a clear bias. I will start off by saying, I am a Rashford fan and a lifelong United supporter who loves to see our own players doing so well.

But Mbappe is on a completely different level to Rashford as a footballer, and he has been for years. Rashford is making much better decisions now under a good coach, but that wasn’t the case for a very long time.

Mbappe is a better dribbler, but he is also faster, and has better technique. He is a phenomenon and was quite rightly going toe to toe in the final of the biggest trophy with the worlds greatest player.

Rashford isn’t on that level. He has some fantastic strengths, and I love watching him, but it’s not wrong to think he will never be at the very top level, especially after he was so bad for so long. The very elite players are consistent.

Just a few months ago people were saying Rashford was blind and always dribbled into defenders. I really like Rashford and didnt like the over the top critisism he was getting but Mbappe is better than Rashford in basically everything. That doesnt make Rashford a bad player since Mbappe looks like he will win atleast one Ballon D'or.

In this case the grass is actually greener.

I thought he was actually pretty rubbish until he got the first goal. Even that one didn't look entirely comfortable, great that he's still scoring even when he's not at his best level. The second was a really nice finish.
That's his normal level. That's how I assess Rashford. He's going to be flawed, try shit, make mistakes and score

Rashford is only 25 though, there are plenty of examples of players kicking on at 25. Salah for example.

apart from passing like I said, yeah. Some of the killer passes he produces are truly world class.

Mbappe is obviously a tier above but he’s probably the best in the world right now. If Marcus can keep this form up for a good stint and not suffer any more injuries then he could be right up there with him.

It sucks for him that they were almost going neck and neck for a while until that back injury fecked him for 2 years.

Why?

I still can't believe southgate just gave him 5 mins when trailing. He is on top form and would have definitely done something more useful that foden against France.

He is bloody carrying us at the moment isn’t he.

Astonishing turnaround. Long may it continue.

@Wumminator you could have quoted this one just as easily. Nothing wrong with my previous post either, mind. Things change.

Marcus is looking better and better down the middle. Which bodes well for when Sancho 2.0 returns on the LW.

Never expected this redemption arc. AT ALL. He looked more done than Ronaldo this season and late United career Rooney. And he had been for close to two years.
Let's cut it out with the 2 years talk. It was 1 bad season where he started it with a surgery after the Euro final penalty debacle hitting his morale, and where when he recovered from injury, the team was already in a downward spiral, and Ole soon after got sacked.

The year before, he was putting off surgery so his general play was inconsistent, but he had 21 goals with 10-15 assists as well. His 2 year period, of which only 1 was truly bad, are both very explainable due to team situation and injuries.

So yeah. Saying he looked finished is nonsense.

How many of Mbappe, Messi, Neymar, Haaland, Kane, Robben carried their team with a literal broken back?
This boy will go from strength to strength and will become a United legend - potentially one of our greatest.

International football history is full of examples of players just hitting hot form at the right time and managers riding the wave to victory. I feel more and more that Southgate should have done that with Rashford, doesn't matter if Foden had been better in the previous few years, for the time and now, Rashford was the man.

He's added levels to his game I didn't see coming as someone who was pissed at him last year. Clearly better as a decision maker in the final third, and also is not afraid to use his weaker side even if it's just for basic passes and shots. Both were a huge drawback on him for years.

Like Veron? or Pogba? or probably VdB?
Did you just compare VDB to veron and Pogba?

Regardless, Veron came from a foreign league at 26 who couldn't settle. Very different situation to Rashford. And Pogba is/was quite clearly a class player who also would have thrived under Ten Hag.

Is this the best he's ever been for us? Struggling to think of a point where he's been consistently better

I think I called him out on his work rate and attitude at times last season. I could and probably should have given him the benefit of the doubt, he clearly is in a better space mentally now. Good for him, well done.

I hope he continues his form. So happy to see him play well again. Had given up hope tbh
