He's been rubbish recently but it's ridiculous to write him off. this is only his third season for us, of course he's going to be inconsistent.
Only his third season? Not sure what that means. I agree it’s too early to write him off but 3 seasons is enough to not be so bad at decision making, so unrefined and so rash (no pun intended). I know he’s young though.

In fairness when you look at his age and you look at how long it took for Sterling to transform into how he's playing now, we need to be patient, the problem is we are managed by a guy who isn't great with attacking players, that's why he likes the finished article so he can just leave them to their own devices, plus Rashford probably shouldn't be playing as often as he is, we used to blood young players like him in to ease the scrutiny.
No - the problem is this current Rashford should not be a key player, featuring in every game this season so far, for a club like ours.

Fan pressure on local yoof has forced Mourinho into playing him. I've no idea if he'll make it big time, but he's not good enough right now to deserve so much game time in his career.

You'd think some of the morons posting today would have learnt a lesson from the bollocks they were posting in the Lingard thread for two years, but alas.

Lingard is still average, I know 3-4 good performances per season is enough to make him world class in the eyes of some of you but to me he's still average and won't bench many of the players in clubs below us

I still am hopeful he'll come good, but he needs to be dropped. Would like to see whether he sinks or swims if that happens. He needs to earn his place back.

Doesn't help that Jose has a boner for Lukaku as never drops him though.

He still played like shit, but he didn't seem to have the entitled attitude that he's been showing the last month or so. I guess that's an improvement...kind of?

What ? No he showed it even more today.

He needs to get slapped. He thinks himself the new Ronaldo.

It’s why you don’t get too reliant on young players.

Needs to be dropped for a while and made to work on his technique etc in the reserves. Said it before but his lower level is extremely poor and resembles championship level which is not acceptable for a United level forward. As for comparisons with Mbappe @noodlehair I said they were laughable then and they always will be - even when he does return to form his level just will never ever match what we expect from an Mbappe whose on another planet technically and iq wise. His bottom level is worse than guys like Gray or Redmond at times but his optimal level is special.. but all great players have a solid bottom level because they know they can't rely on being at the races every game and that is what Marcus needs to work on. Having a solid 7/10 performance in his locker every game. It will come with good technical coaching and maturity but there is no guarantee it will definitely happen as there is a lot of disparity between his upper and lower level. This wasn't a problem in guys like Ronaldo whose bottom level was that he always looked the most technically gifted player on the pitch abit like Martial but that his decision making could be really poor and things didn't quite come off for him in those younger years. It was not a regular occurrence to see him miscontrol balls, run out of play or just look so one dimensional when running with the ball.

We need to keep faith with the lad but we need to protect him and nurture him too.. worst thing is to just feed the ego, make it out like he's guaranteed to make it and he doesn't put the effort in to really study his game and put in the necessary improvements. He's very raw and people forget that because of the blistering start he made to his career.. we don't want him ending up like a Walcott.
Question is who would play on the wing? Valencia injured and wing back system would be wrecked. Shaw is more attacking FB ( not exactly very good with his end product even at his best). We have no winger. Mkhi, Mata, Lingard playing is shite. May afford Young as winger (who is quite underwhelming option to begin with), but that leaves much to desire with our current fullback options.
Don't see how he was selfish today. His crosses were just poor. Besides, he is a striker so it's part of his instinct to find angles to get a goal.
Different view. Clearly saw him for sometimes now trying to first to get angle to shoot and only change to pass or cross when already in dead end of thing = losing momentum for early cross. You can say lack of experience but that's not problem before recently. Winger or wide forward, knowing when to release the ball (pass, cross, shoot) is still a mark of understanding the game. For some reason he regresses strangely in this department from where he was.

The over the top criticism is the antithesis of what fans should be doing as ACTUAL FANS though. Yes he's having a tough time of it, but thats when you need to actually fecking do some supporting. This race to the bottom to say the most outrageously over the top thing the second things get a little bit tough for a player or our team are exactly why our fanbase is so goddamn toxic.

You'd think after a game where a 'local lad Championship player waste of space' according to a lot of this forum over the past two seasons just saved our bacon people would have a shred of self-awareness, but oh no it seems instead we're going to recycle all of those insults and fling them at Rashford instead now.

I'm fecking sick of a huge portion of our so-called fans.

Agree with you 100%... but as you probably know, fighting a losing battle in this place I am afraid.

I’d just let them have their little echo chamber... they can all slate Rashford and demand we sell him and then pat each other on the back.

I still don’t get why he needs to take two or three seconds more on the ball even when a easy pass is on. It just allows the other team to swarm back and blocks off the 1-2 option. Because that’s the only way he’d beat a man.

He was up against Bardsley who he made look like Maldini. I’m sure Martial would have had fun against Bardsley today.

Showed good heart today in the second half but the quality of ball was severely lacking.
I blame Rojo and Lukaku for today's defeat. Stupid foul from Rojo and Lukaku has to deal with that header.

"Local lad" will buy him 2 more years of this type of performance before the majority begin to agree.

He's up there with some of the most stupid players I've seen recently.

Yep, and when when he eventually has a good performance he'll be worldclass again with more potential than Ronaldo at 20 and you'll all be haters and fake fans while he goes on another average run, then he has another good game and is worldclass again...rinse and repeat

He has lost some form. He has proven he can play to a high level before. I dont like that people are writing off such a talented player.

No, people are saying he is a rubbish player period. Also, I dont know why people are shocked he is has lost some form. It happens to every young player. It's not some bizarre mystery.

Rubbish is harsh, but I think its fair if some people think he's really not that good

I am not writing him off or something. Just saying I see him changing his approach for the worse for some time now after having solid progress earlier this season. I called his off form few weeks, so here I am not talking about just form

I just mean that you'd expect a player who's played for just 3 seasons to develop significantly. Nani didn't really click until his 3rd season for example. He's looked extremely raw as of late but earlier in the season when his form was good he was bein praised for how well rounded he looks.

I just think he has enough credit in his bank to buy him some patience. Those writing him off are doing so hastily imo.

Finally fans are opening their eyes. I've been going on about Rashford for a year saying he just isn't nor never will be class at CF or as a winger. He has not shown anything to prove me wrong. Dribbling? Not great. Shooting? Not great. Decision Making? Terrible. He's a pace merchant who cannot finish a 1v1 chance.

The abuse I've gotten over the past 2 season as well for stating the obvious

Yeah especially the blood young players in the past part. Fergie was so good at that. Perhaps our expectations should be toned down a bit. But I am finding that we are in similar position with a few of our players and we’ve been at it for a number of years now. I really like him and hopefully we will see better times ahead.

This has been the problem since Fergie left, we've not balanced this squad out yet, cast that blame where you will as it's a muddle at this point given we are 3 managers in, but for instance we are playing two 32 year old wingers as fullbacks and are relying on two very young and fairly inexperienced players on the LW, there's not a good balance of master and apprentice so to speak.

I said he shouldn't be playing as much as he is, but there are other factors at play, I think under a diffrent manager his talent might well be progresing rather than regressing.

He is going through a rough patch. It happens to every young player. He has lost some confidence and is making bad decisions. People need to calm down.

You are not proven right because he has had a dip in form. Give it a rest.

People making the Lingard comparison are ridiculously thick.
They forget Lingard was also very poor when played on the wings and only plays better now because he’s being played through the middle.

Rashford has no future on the wings, especially at a top club. What kind of player exactly is he gonna develop into in that position?

That’s why I was always against giving Zlatan a new contract because Rashford minutes were always gonna end up restricted on the wings due to that. He’s a good player and can become even better if guided properly and we play to his strengths.

I largely agree with what you're saying in this thread but considering your comments of Martial previously it's quite funny to see you imploring people to be patient.

I have always maintained that Martial is talented and have never wanted him sold. I just have the opinion he needs to work on his runs and movement.

It's different to Rashford making more wrong decisions than he used to.

if he wants to play in the center he needs to go out on loan as he is not good enough yet to do it here.

I am still pissed at the last game but wtf was that smashed free kick about? its all most like he wants his team mate to not get goals so he gets 9 spot.

Local lad or not talented or not he either plays for the team or he can feck off to everton.

He has always hit his freekicks with venom. Why are people trying to twist this into him wanting the glory all to himself.

"We need to play to his strengths", why on earth would we do that? He looks very poor at the moment and is lucky to be even in the match day squad, the last thing we should do is mould the team around him.

His attitude stinks at the moment, he needs to up his game and his effort levels considerably otherwise he won't make it.

You didn't read my post did you? I have been talking about approach. He changed his approach when his confidence was high after good progress earlier this season. Bad form hit, but he still insisted with this approach despite it's getting him in worse situation than usual. We need more team player. He's moving toward the star man while being bad form. Recipe for disaster.

The problem is while we all wait for him to grow up, he is directly costing us points and progress.

It seems many of our fans want young players AND trophy winning attractive football. I don't think you can have both, certainly not for a sqaud with our profile right now.

This "change in approach" is overstated. He is just making the wrong decisions which is normal for a young player.

If you're going to select him then you have to play to his strengths. Especially when he's struggling. Once seleted to play it seemed like a good time to get him up front.

I dont think he directly is. When we drop points its a collective thing. The two goals we conceded today are difficult to account for.

Needs go be benched a few games so he gets his head back on track. A little adversity will do him good. he has the potential just need to rattle his cage so he wakes up.

We can agree to disagree in his instance as each has their own view. I explained how now his approach to an attack is mostly to set himself for shooting first. Passing, crossing, repositioning comes as second thought. Before he makes good decision sufficiently despite young player's inconsistency issue.

I meant play to his strengths by playing him as a striker. His best games have always been when he's played through the middle.

Yes, no doubt his attitude is terrible. Nobody expected him though to behave this way due to being benched. Compare his attitude to Martial's who was benched at the beginning of the season and it's ridiculous. Martial showed more desire, and fought hard to earn his way back into the team... but but it was always claimed that Martial was the one with a terrible attitude.

Rashford greatest quality on the wings then was his work rate (though many would still deny this) and intensity, and it's no surprise he looks half the player when he's playing like he couldn't be arsed.

Decision making, and he’s making all the wrong ones. Nothing wrong with a striker being selfish if he’s between the width of the sticks. But Rashford is not currently playing as a forward, and is taking really stupid things on.
He needs to be coached, because not just his ball hogging but the spaces he is taking up and the runs he is making as well as not passing are starting to effect others.

I would think a stint back in the under 21’s would maybe give him a reality check but it might just exasperate the problem if he starts taking the piss out of them.
