Phenomenal defensive performance
He'll probably play better against Crystal Palace

Thought he did a great job defensively covering for Young many times. Very good performance for me.Didn't look 100 % sharp today. Maybe it was instructions, but he seemed a bit lazy in the second half not chasing the ball and possible runs as he can do.
Very difficult game to play though
Offensively he offered nothing, even in the first half when the game was in balance, that should not be considered a very good performance.Thought he did a great job defensively covering for Young many times. Very good performance for me.

Who gives a shit? He worked his ass off and we kept a clean sheet.Offensively he offered nothing, even in the first half when the game was in balance, that should not be considered a very good performance.
Who cares if an attacker did nothing in attack?Who gives a shit? He worked his ass off and we kept a clean sheet.
He is to man mark Cedric. He is not supposed to stay loose running in behind without us gaining the edge in possession like the other game. Can be improved, but not the a bad performance by any mean.Didn't look 100 % sharp today. Played 2 days ago. Rashford is preferred over Martial because he has more awareness of what's going on around him and his all around game is more developed. Martial has better natural skills so potentially a higher ceiling but both will be phenomenal.Average first half, seems to be struggling a little now.
This board has become a joke. Judging attacking players performances has devolved to how much defensive work they can put in rather than their offensive prowess.Who cares if an attacker did nothing in attack?
This is completely false.Played 2 days ago. Rashford is preferred over Martial because he has more awareness of what's going on around him and his all around game is more developed. Martial has better natural skills so potentially a higher ceiling but both will be phenomenal.
Won't be long before "don't fix what isn't broken" becomes popular again. This board has become a joke. Judging attacking players performances has devolved to how much defensive work they can put in rather than their offensive prowess.
Mental gymnastic at their finest.

We can't win every game 4-0. Sometimes what the team needs is a performance like he had today. Sure, he could have done more offensively but the most important thing must surely be winning the game? This board has become a joke. Probably. agree.Phenomenal defensive performance

This is where you guys are getting things upside down. As an attacker, a player will or should always be judged from his attacking input first and foremost and if it comes with good defensive capabilities as well than even better. We can't win every game 4-0. You guys must be livid with Mata and Mkhi..
Around 2:25.
It seems like the roles have reversed under José. I always thought the FB was the defensive who was to worry about the offensive job of the attacker but now it's the other way round. It's almost like Cedric is a better attacker and Rashford is the better defender. That's the issue. If that's the only compliment we can give to our attacking players, then there's an issue in my eyes. Our attackers are supposed to occupy their defenders rather than be occupied by them.
I'm pragmatic and so is our coach, team before the individual and result before entertaining football. This match demanded a different performance from Marcus. We won't dominate every match (i'd like that a lot, just won't happen) and he won't be able to affect the game the way we all want him too, in the final third. I'm just saying the lad did what was needed of him so he deserves praise for it.This is where you guys are getting things upside down. So if an attacker had an anonymous game offensively despite doing great defensive work, he'll be rated average and rightly so.
Same things as i mentioned above but also.. The lad has 5 goals and 2 assists in 9 appearances this season. That is damn impressive. That's the issue. We weren't pinned back at all for most of the game and our attackers (excluding Lukaku) still did feck all. You'd think we were playing Pep's Barca the way people are talking about how we were dominated.Marcus was PHENOMENAL.
That's what Jose said. The whole team was pinned back. Any player would find it difficult to break from so deep. This game will have further validated Rashford's place in the team for Jose. Wonderful talent.
At this rate the kid will probably end up as a full back just like Valencia and Young or Diouf at Stoke. Mourinho already has priors in turning attackers to cloggers.Marcus was PHENOMENAL.

First half, where he was playing as an attacker, he wasn't that good. Second half, where he was playing Left Back, he was amazing.
You seem to almost be dismissing attacking threat as less important than defensive capabilities from attacking players in order for a team to be successful.I'm pragmatic and so is our coach, team before the individual and result before entertaining football. I do completely understand you guyses point of view, though.
If that is what you take out of this then there is no point discussing it further. You seem to almost be dismissing attacking threat as less important that defensive capabilities from attacking players in order for a team to be successful.
Exactly. The first half the play was more balanced and opportunities where there to go at Southampton which we tried but aside from Lukaku, every single other attackers behind him were poor.We weren't pinned back at all for most of the game and our attackers (excluding Lukaku) still did feck all. You'd think we were playing Pep's Barca the way people are talking about how we were dominated.
He always looks a little drunk to me. His success rate of simply keeping the ball after dribbling (let alone making use of it) must be less than 20%.Thought he looked drunk vs Everton and was equally poor going forward today. Good work defensively though and I guess that's what matters in a Jose team.
