Coming off the bench to score against tired teams is so easy they said...

In reality, he has gotten worse on the bench, and needs to start some games to gain confidence. He’s almost of no use to us in this form.
We're a much worse side if he starts, he doesn't deserve to be starting.

He's going through a bad spell which is no doubt affecting his confidence and instincts. It happens to young players, but I do think the vitriol he's getting is unnecessary. I'm sure Mourinho will manage him well during this phase. He'll be back......

Gets into good positions, then makes brainless decisions. Needs to improve.

Too greedy. The go to thing when not in form should be to strive to be the best team player he can be. Obvious talent though, some of the skills he showcased there at the end was delicious, but as so many times lately one too many

Can see his confidence is shot.

Takes those extra couple of touches to make sure and by that point the chance has gone. Badly needs a couple of goals to get up and running again.

Rest Lukaku against Yeovil and let him play up top.

I can accept that player can be out of form. Especially young player. But to play like you are playing 5 a side with your friends , is unforgivable. Without will, without brain...
Jose must talk with him.

I definitely understand and agree with that. I'm just wondering if his confidence is that low (Martial outperforming him and now the arrival of Sanchez), shouldn't he try less complicated shit and focus on the basics of passing and sharing the ball ?

Only had a short window in which to play the pass before Lukaku went and stayed offside. If Lukaku took a step back then the pass would still have been on and he could definitely have made it easier for Rashford. Poor on behalf of both of them but he should have played him in sooner.

Somone in the match thread said Mourinho isn't developing him properly.:wenger:
Been shocking for months now.
needs sorting before Alexis comes, he won't even get a sub role.

Probably. I'm hoping the coaches will push him in that direction. Because of his meteoric rise he's probably become of victim of his own initial success and the expectations that go with that. Maybe he goes onto the field thinking he has to be extra special when simplicity would bring him better results.....

There was a moment on the right wing, just after he came on, when he beat his man then turned back and tried to beat him again, losing the ball in the process, if I recall correctly. Needs to simplify things. Especially when the basics aren't even there yet (ie. that attempted pass to Martial).

When he first broke onto the scene I said he reminded me of a Tevez/Alexis type of attacker. Now, with Alexis joining, I think it'll do him well working with him up close. He's in poor form at the moment but when doesn't a young player go through poor form?

I don't think lack of confidence is an excuse for the two poor moments on the counter today, he was much too casual with the pass to play Martial in, and much too greedy when he went himself instead of playing Lukaku in.

Rashford's decision making has dropped off a roof. Its actually sad to see him like this. As at Leicester he killed more than one counter today. At the moment everything he does seems strained. There's nothing instinctive about his play. Hopefully he can score at Yeovil next Friday and get some confidence back.

It is greediness. I knew he wasn't playing that pass first time.

Regarding the pass, I didn't have that down as greed. I thought he was reluctant to play it because he might of thought Lukaku was offside or that the defeneder would've intercepted it. He is a greedy player but that's how it came across to me at the time.

It's how Martial has gained Mourinho's trust and Lingard too. You do simple things consistently and then when the opportunity is truly there, you go for the individual glory.

It's incredible that for some people the first thing, after a tough win where non of our attacking players played well, mind wonders to is "Martial is levels better than Rashford, I fecking told you so!" with such ridiculous glee as if they're not aware that this is actually worse for us. I'm not even going into the logic of comparing two different players on different stages of their development halfway into the season but I digress.

He's in awful form but it would be great to remember that he is 20 and this is a perfectly normal and expected dip in form. Or you know, call him a championship player that will not get on the bench once Sanchez arrives despite the fact there's plenty of more experienced players on our team that went through worse spells of form in the recent past.

Ridiculous notion.
All the players ahead of him are stating cause they have been better,
He needs to take these sub role seriously before Alexis arrives.

Word used too lightly.
There's a lot of criticism but I don't see any vitriol.

Yeah people have gotten way too wrapped up in the Martial bs Rashford debate, it's poisonous.

He was better than Martial last season, and might be better than Martial next season.

These are young players, you never know what you're going to get. What I do know is that we want to keep both of them.
He can play better than Martial sometimes same way Pedro can play better than Hazard some games, but Martial is just superior in terms of technique and skills.

He'll be fine long term. Shows loads of talent and still gets in good positions and gets close to scoring in most games. Just not quite coming off at the moment. There will be a lot less pressure on his shoulders now though with Sanchez coming in and Martial getting more and more consistent, so he should be able to come in off the bench and play stress free. No doubt that he's going to come good though.

I don't know what's wrong with the kid ... very poor in the last few games. I was raging about his decision making today... Lukaku would have scored

I mean they were both shite, the difference was at best marginal, this season they're on completely different levels.

I don't think it's lack of confidence. I think his head has gotten too big. He seems to take on everything himself when he should be working with his teammates. I love the kid but he should not be playing right now.

With Sanchez coming in, my hope is that Jose benches him. Make him Lukaku's backup. Give Lingard preference as a sub on the wing. He needs to spend some time on the training ground and get his head in order.
