Valencia moved to full back due to being a limited winger. Not that this has anything to do with Rashford being a winger or wide forward or whatever else you want to call it.

Rashford is a centre forward.
Still not sure why people are certain he's a #9. For us this season, he needed to be a winger, a position that players with traits like his generally thrive in. To me, his qualities still line up more with Sane, Sterling, Mane and players like them.

Same limited winger who was superb winger in the first 2-3 years?

Rashford is not a limited player, you won't see every players playing in only 1 position. For example Fabinho played as full back and CM, One of the best ever CM Iniesta was played as Left wing forward plenty of times, Rakitic played so many games as attacking midfielder when he was at Schalke, Modric played as AM, LW before playing as CM for Spurs.

Players are played in different position all the time, not sure why fans especially ManUtd fans have so much issue with that.

Disagree strongly. His best traits are blistering pace, good movement and good finishing. To me that screams CF.
He hasn't got the dribbling ability or close control to be a Winger or wide forward, even though his crossing is pretty decent he's a number 9 all day for me.

I don't get why there is any issue with him playing wide. Did playing wide ruin Henry's development as a young player? They are both fairly similar in style.

Rashford wasn't even a centre forward as a youngster... he played wide. He became a centre forward less than a few years ago because of injuries and the fact that our u21's wasn't blessed with strikers. It's just good at this stage that he is getting regular playing time at his boyhood club and performing really well. Nicky Butt thinks his best position is as a wide forward.

Griezmann played as winger even though he was superb finisher. Pace, Movement, finishing can be used from wide positions too and not all wingers need dribbling ability. Off the ball runs that Ronaldo did, Bale did even Walcott did can hurt the opposition.

It will be hard to find a club that will accept him on loan and give him some serious minutes as a CF, whilst knowing they won't be able to buy him at the end of the loan.

Lots of clubs would take him. West Ham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Stoke etc would snap him up.

It's has if everyone forgot last season. Where he led the line for Manchester United as 18 year old. His movement, pace and clinical finishing last season proved to be his strengths. Sure, he can do a job out wide, but we're not getting the best out of him.

Yeah the same winger that was very good those 2-3 years but lost a little pace in recovering from a broken ankle and didn't look the same. Again, Valencia (and the list of players you decided to tell me about) has nothing to do with my point being that Rashford is a CF. Can he do a job out wide? Yes. Are we waiting him by playing out wide? Absolutely.

Is blistering pace a common trait among top CFs? Finishing certainly is, and Rashford burst onto the scene in what was a dream start to a career, but that was nowhere near enough to give the kid the label of good finisher.

Looking forward to him getting a full summer off. Expect him to come back at the start of the season having gained some strength and power to go with his pace. Even between January last year and the start of this season he gained some size. Needs it if he wants to succeed as a CF.

I have given plenty of examples where players played in multiple positions. The hottest name in the market Griezmann played as winger before moving to central position.

STOP TELLING ME ABOUT OTHER PLAYERS!

I'm making a fairly simple point. Playing Rashford wide is a waste of his talents, I think Rashford is best used as a CF.

Griezmann, Fabinho or any other player you are to mention has nothing to do with my opinion on Rashford. If you think Rashford is a better winger than a striker then fine. Just say that.

Why not? This narrow view of "playing a player 5 yards away from his position is bla bla bla" is ridiculous. For me Rashford is a better CF than winger but playing as a winger is not waste of his talent. Rashford himself said he is learning a lot playing out wide.

If Rashford can't adapt to playing as a wide forward I think we'll see some Caf drama, those that followed him as a youth player said that his sudden finishing streak surprised them as he hadn't been a good or conistent finisher at youth level, and I think it might have just been a purple patch, now we are seeing his more erratic nature in front of goal. The fact he also hasn't got the technique for link up or hold up play will also be an issue, the way he plays is actually more suited to a counter attack team that concedes a lot of the ball if he is used as a Striker, for instance he'd be well suited to Leicester's system in Vardy's role.

Either way when Ibra goes we'll buy another striker because we can't put all our eggs in one basket.

Mourinho said we need specialists, that suggests players who have a set of skills that suit a certain position, not utility men

I think Giggs is right about him needing to diversify his game. Turning the afterburners on at every opportunity limits him a little.

Very lively when he came on, crerated a great chance for Vardy. I think playing wider suits him and he's best off the bench for now.

Ok, I just thought it came off like being on Welbeck's level was somehow beneath Rashford.

Well you're right I think in that the comparison is meant as a negative.

It's just that it's also a poor comparison. I don't really see any similarities between the two.

I think it Travellers him as well. Doesn't matter what age you are, you're not lasting the game if you play like that.

I think if Rashford's all round game develops like Welbeck's it would be a poisitve, I reckon the coparison should just down to them being United youngsters who want to be striker's but are being blooded as wide players on the left.

I actually think in this game he did it more than ever. On several occasions he picked up the ball static hovered with it for a couple of seconds and played a simple five yard pass to slow the tempo of the game. Still had his usual maniacal running but I think he showed more variety than he normally does today.

Both black as well. Matching up skin colour is a funny quirk of this comparison business.

If I had to compare him to anyone it would be Owen. He's not as good a finisher it seems but he's much closer style wise than Welbeck.

Other than speed, in what way Rashford is similar to Owen? People comparing him to Welbeck because both came from academy, both highly rated among United fans, both are striker cum winger, athletic with good speed/acceleration, good on the ball and linked up play, but their finishing is blowing hot and cold. Why did you bring up the skin color?

True, for years every tall, black CM was the new Viera and then the new Yaya.

I could see the Owen comparison, certainly from the perspective of how based on speed both of their games are.

Because when people do comparisons 99% of the time the skin colour matches up. No big deal, just a funny aspect of this.

He's more like Owen because he's rapid with the ball at his feet and can drift past players. Like Owen the ball isn't exactly glued to his foot but that speed and agility does the trick. He plays off the shoulder like Owen, neither had much physical presence, neither a target man. In terms of finishing Owen far more clinical but like Rashford he wasn't a scorer of all types of goals.

Welbeck can gallop off the ball but he was never one to beat players consistently. From a standing start he couldn't blast past a fullback. There was never any real desire to be a goalscorer, doesn't really play off the last man. That they both came through United is neither here nor there in terms of playing style comparison. It's also way too early to compare Rashfords finishing to Welbeck's. Especially when you consider how clinical he was last year.
