Decent game.

He's weaker than he should be, though. He's quite tall and whilst he's slender he isn't all bones, so it's a bit weird his upper-body strength seems non-existent. Is it a balance thing?

Funny, I actually came in to post that he looks stronger. Think he has been hitting the gym. Our only decent performer tonight.

Got around his fullback on both sides and got fouled a lot with nothing given, did fine overall for me, he at least looked interested.

Played well tonight but for some reason he is worrying me. He just looks too clumsy to be a long term United first team player right now i.e. in a title challenging side.. the fact he was the best player in our attack shouldn't cover that fact up. I really want to see him go up a level technically.

So because Martial can so should every other teenager?
Yeah, because that's what I said.
Martial looks 5 years older than Rashford.

Rashford is still built like a teenager, Martial is built like a man.
I don't know, I think Rashford is built fine. He's no muscle-man Depay or anything, but hey:

His end product needs to improve but he was very good today. Think he also needs to add the ability to draw penalties in his favour, he beats defenders for fun but then goes down in really clumsy ways

Teenagers are usually weaker than grown men. There's really no need to go searching for some elusive answer to this.

Am I disputing this? Why are you being so obtuse? There's a big difference between Rashford being strong, and Rashford being stronger than what he has shown.

Well yeah you are. Just above you say being a teenager is no excuse. That because Martial can physically deal with EPL defenders so should every other teenager. Really you said it just three or four posts up.

Kid is an absolute fecking livewire. Sprinting away from everyone down the touchline. He had Mylar on toast the entire night. Didn't get the ball enough, can see why Mourinho prefers him to Martial.

edit: Think his gurner on the profile page needs an update.

Showing photos of him after training means nothing to the argument. He's a teenager, he's very slight. If you've seen him in real life you'll see how petite he is. He is built like a teenager, he can lift all the weights he likes, just like Ronaldo did, but he will still be built like a teenager until he naturally broadens his build through growing older. Just like a Ronaldo did.

Don't you wonder why there are very few world class 18 year old centre backs? Because in that position you NEED to be broad and strong like a man. That's why centre backs naturally come of age 5 years later than wingers and strikers who can rely heavily on their pace.

Our best player. Looked like it was important to him, was hoping we saw maybe TFM too along with him (and maybe another younger player). He seemed hungry but nobody was moving for him. I did like him swapping wings and moving around too rather than just sticking to the left all the time.

Think he doesnt quite know how to use his body either. One thing that annoys me know end is his turning away from any aerial challenge. Never even contests headers for no reason because he should be doing better with them.

He made runs in behind when Martial would have been checking towards the ball. Obvious to me that's what Mourinho wants from that position and what he's trying to extract from Martial. Thought Rashford did very well tonight.

One of few players who can walk out of that game with positive. Just like the above poster said, he attempted more run in behind and at time went through if not for being fouled & ref being shite. He definitely tries to impose himself more in game than say Martial. Of course he's not dribbling wiz so Martial is better in that aspect. Hope his decision making will improve with time. He overplayed at times.

He is developing nice and slowly and for a 19 year old lad, that is all he need to.

Will never be a great winger though, his future is definitely as a striker.

Agree totally with this, he really needs to get to grips with this aspect of his game.

I just hope he doesn't turn out to be one of of those that relies solely on pace cos I'm not going to lie this winger business feels like that at times

I think he has started to do a really good job of the slow down, turn of pace, drag back. Like the assist for Mata's West Ham goal.

He'll develop more ways of beating defenders as he gets more and more comfortable playing there.

I'm really happy with the progress Rashford is making. It's hard to believe it's less than a year ago since he made his debut for us and before that he only played at u-18 level. I think he's getting the right amount of minutes this season and Mourinho seems to think highly of him. It's hard to tell what his best long term position is but playing out wide is working for now. Played well last night.

He is too eager. Sometimes he gives us this incredible injection and sometimes he looks a headless chicken. He needs to work on staying in control more and learning composure. There have been countless times this season he has tried something too rash and ended up running it out of play or losing it.

However, this quality will probably come naturally with age. He has only been a first team player for 10 months.

His talent is amazing.

He did well last night but you simply can't expect teenagers to be tracking back at left-back and then sprint 60 yards upfield and ask them to deliver crosses, beat players or score wonderful goals every 10 minutes. Their energy isn't unlimited.

I do wonder sometimes with Jose's obsession with defensive shape and discipline, how he sees Rashford going forward. He may not be enough of a man for him to be our central striker for another four or five years, so perhaps he'll have to get used to getting flogged down the wing for a few years.

He has the talent to do it, but there were signs of frustration last night. He'll do anything for the team - but too much tracking back and he loses his zip up front. He's isn't a robot (although Jose probably prefers them).

he's got a great cross on him, playing with his head up, always find a player in the box, and good poaching skills and obviously pace and tenacity, with great link up play like all academy graduates... all he needs to get at dribbling which is really inconsistent but he can make up for it with the skills mentioned above, he can be a great wide player and I am also pretty optimistic about his decision making with which player this young can always struggle but he seems actually pretty good at it for player of his age, unlike Martial who heads down tryna dribble past three players, that seems like the only way he can play, rashford seems like more complete and balanced player to me..

He's a 19 year of still learning to apply his talents. With experience and maturity he'll come very good in my mind.

This assault of over analysing the game under a microscope minute-by-minute is suffocating the development of young talents in my opinion. He's earnt a lot of patience and we should go easy on him.

His dribbling has been a bit more varied lately in my opinion. He doesn´t only kick it past the defender to bring in a cross or make a cut back. Really hope he continues to develop that way, it would make him a lot more unpredictable and he certainly has the skill to pull it off.

I´d also hope that we would make more use of his movement. Most of the time we make one pass too much and the chance is gone, or the pass is just not good enough. Usually he gets the ball in a standing position, which makes it very hard for him to actually do something.

To be fair, not many people in the team have any kind of composure. You have senior players doing the headless chicken bit, so it's a little bit difficult to see who can guide him in that aspect.

Apart from all that, a young developing footballer needs more guidance - that's why he was probably better with LVG who spelled out A-Z. It's a pain for established footballers, but for young ones it's key to their development imho. Even Pogba could use a little more guidance as well.

I wish Jose would add someone else to his coaching team who has a track record working with developing footballers. It can't hurt to try it.
