It would be a farce if Zlatan and Rooney keep starting ahead oh him in the forward position. Drop them both if needed, play your best forward in his best position.

I would be interested in his top speed for that run against Stones. He is seriously fast, not just football quick. The lad is a sprinter. On top of that, he has good vision and is a decent passer as well.

He's too good, he should start above Mata/Mkhi on the right side with Martial on left.

I can't believe José didn't start him. Especially with Martial being left out, too.

I thought his influence was very little in the last 30 minutes of the game?

Impact sub

Agree with this for the time being. The first 20 minutes that he's on the pitch, he delivers high quality work but like Lingard last season, after that period the consistency and quality he brings tails off. To be expected given his inexperience, age and growing pressures. I'd keep him as the go to attacking sub in times of need and cup games for now.

Expect him to start up-front in Europa this coming week. Hopefully he'll take his chance then, and ensure himself a starting spot for Watford next weekend.

And he quite obviously should have started today, no question about it.

It's his acceleration that impresses me most, those first few yards he just eats up.

He gets onto that Rooney chance near the end no doubt. No pace through the Centre, last season showed how effective we were when Martial was upfront. We had no running in behind and when we did we were piss-slow.

Was a breath of fresh air when he came on and finally saw us get at their fullbacks, then for some reason we stopped getting it to him and started just pumping long balls up.

Here's this guy who comes on and has an instant impact and what do we do, move the play to the other side.

He's so consistent. Remarkable for an 18 year old...cant remember his last bad game

Knocking on the door. We shouldn't Michael Owen the kid, and play him so much that his later career is ruined by injuries. Still, in a game like today's he was badly needed from the beginning if Jose wasn't confident Martial would play well.

We are getting very close to the point where he should be taking Zlatans spot not the wingers

No, just no.

There is nothing that indicates Rashford should be taking Zlatan spot.

Zlatan keeps scoring goals, Rashford was very sloppy this game, he did have some impact but he should be playing instead of Martial or Miki, not Zlatan.

With the fixtures starting to increase he will hopefully start some matches. Really bright cameo.

Big mistake to not start him, but I think Jose sees him as an impact sub and he's better than that. Hopefully he gets to start games now

Has to start. Way too good not to. Adds so much more of an attacking threat to the side.

Rooney and Zlatan are nailed on to start, so the wings will have to be his position and there are zero wingers better than him on current form right now.

With our starting line-up it was as if City knew they could sit high up the pitch because we had so little pace up front. They started the same way in the second half and then Rashford scared them shitless after only a couple of minutes. Then they had to change tactics and that allowed United to have the ball more and thus create more. Pace in the forward three is a necessity. How Mourinho thought Lingard would be the one to provide that threat is beyond me; he is a little faster than David Silva.

Him and/or Martial have to start as it's all so one paced without them.

Personally, I'd like to see us try going 4-3-3 with Martial wide left, Rashford wide right and Pogba as the most advanced central midfielder.

Yep, speed kills. So the question is (Because I haven't seen the player before), can he contribute well enough in other areas to warrant his time on the pitch.

I love the little lofted ball he provided for Ibra on goal just in the box, great touch. That's quality & confidence to pull that off in stride like that

Mou isn't really known for being patient with young players so it remains to be seen how he'll be used but impressive. Of course, I think the player on the evening that surprised/impressed me the most was Sané but I digress

Don't worry about Rashford - he's more than just speed and running at players. He's got great awareness and technique.

Really dont understand the logic behind Lingard starting over him. He will surely start against Watford, especially coming odf thr back of his hatrick in the week. He isnt going to replace zlatan so a wing spot this season is the best we can hope for. He is absolutely fantastic.
