March Madness 2009

My bracket's taking a beating.

The Xavier loss to Pittsburgh killed me. I nearly shit my pants in half amazement/half anger when the Pitt player nailed the clutch 3 pointer at the end.

Thankfully Pitt went through, still got all my final 4 left and a few of my elite 8 still in tact

Blake Griffin just hit his head on the backboard while throwing down a monster dunk.

All of a sudden it's not so bad to be a Kings fan...

 Love the last bit

Good looking Elite 8, going to be a bunch of close games

THis OU-UNC game is gonna be off the heezy fo sheezy

Crack open a Stella like me if you are nervous, didnt do a bracket this year, because I was busy as feck and lazy as feck. But am liking just being able to enjoy the game, could see OU winning it, Griffin v Hansbrough is gonna be a great match up. I dont think I have seen a big man run the floor as well as Griffin in some time

Oklahoma look like they are in some trouble already

They are the best team out there, there is no doubt about it, best inside player other than Griffin and great perimeter players. Green was excellent today

Spartans in the Final Four!!! I don't know if any of you heeded my rather lengthy post on the first page, but your Midwest bracket would look better if you had. This continues the streak that EVERY four-year player that Tom Izzo has recruited (14 years as head coach) has played in a Final Four. No other coach can say that. 5 Final Fours since 99 (next closest is 3).

Now, if you'll indulge me, a few comments to the national media...starting with a big giant feck YOU!

feck You for your constant cock sucking of the Big East and ACC. The Big East was great this year, but to consistently not give credit to the Big 10 Champion, with the best tournament coach in the country, who was Champs of a conference that put 6 teams in the tournament, and who won that conference by four games, is fecking ignorant. feck you to the majority of you that picked MSU to lose to USC, then Kansas, then Louisville. And THANK YOU, for your likely pick of MSU to lose to UConn. I just hope the sun doesn't shine on your dog's ass this time.

And an extra special feck You to Digger Phelps for still holding a 30 year old grudge against Michigan State, because Magic Johnson and the boys beat your #1 ranked Notre Dame in the tournament. feck you for literally LAUGHING at the thought of MSU having any kind of a shot for the Final Four. Hey Dickker, just because the scores are low in the Big 10, does NOT mean they suck at basketball. Everyone, top to bottom in the Big 10, puts a huge emphasis on defense.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Didn't want to comment at all earlier in the tournament for fear of jinxing. Jinxes go out the window for me at this point, though. If we lose to UConn, I won't be disappointed. But MSU has as good of a chance to win as anyone else. I really don't see any of the four that should be any stronger of a favorite than any other.

Haha you almost sounds bitter, Izzo is top notch only Coack K and Roy Williams are better imo. The five Final Fours are nice and all but how many he did he win? Reckon it'll be UNC, Tyler wont see a better big man than he saw today, and their guards and forwards totally shat over OU, if Carolina play like they did today they will win it

You work at 4am, that fecking sucks

Well 7 AM here

Green was unreal, he had a strong season but I never thought he would take a game by the scruff like that.

Hopefully we get more team play like that to avoid last year's disaster start against Kansas... another strong start will be needed.

 You're the man Spartan !

Although I picked UConn in the final, i'm excited for your boys, and any other year i'd be rooting for you lot to pull it off.

Let's Go Nova!

Has to be one of the best games of the tournament so far, if not the game of the tournament. If we can get past UNC, I feel like we have an excellent shot at the title. That's a big if though.

I can agree with some of Miami Spartan's sentiment in that I hate the love of the ACC in the national media. This tournament proved there's only one decent team from the conference, yet teams like Duke get perennially overrated because of reputation. Similarly, I barely saw any real acknowledgment of Nova as a team worth reckoning with until we won on Saturday.

It's difficult to argue about Coach K or Roy Williams, but I would say that they have much easier time bringing in the elite talent. Of course, some of that is the fault of Izzo (though I don't really know it's a fault). Izzo gets some big stars, but also recruits a lot of "project" players, that take some development. Sometimes that leads to some down years (relatively speaking) as players are working on developing, but then the payoff comes in years like this when lightly recruited guys like Travis Walton and Goran Suton are senior leaders.

On the other hand, look at Duke's tournament failures over the past several years, and Coach K's star does not shine quite so bright.

From the previous page, I noted that you went to Nova, so an extra special congrats, as I can definitely relate. You're right, Nova was discounted so much with all the fluffing of Pitt, UConn, and Louisville. Best of luck Saturday!

Good luck to you as well. Would be nice to see the two underdogs in the Final 4 reach the final. Can always dream..

Well he did assemble quite the team of stars towards Olympic gold last year

To be fair, I could probably lead the American basketball team to Olympic Gold. Just saying.

That was the joke mate

My humor isn't quite the rub anymore now is it?

Too be fair to him he did do a damn good job with them, Duke also is a great school so they can't just bring in idiots kinda like Notre Dame football, which they are doing much better than.

I'm still surprised Coach K didn't take the Lakers job a few years back. He'd done everything possible at Duke. But some men are destined to be college coaches only and Coach K is one of the best ever.

Calipari accepted the Kentucky job. I fully expect a Saban/Alabama revival in Lexington within a couple seasons.

.

Will say though, success pays... thats ALOT of duckets.

I believe Duke had more All-Americans on its roster than any other school, so even if they only brought in 4.0 students, they're still getting the best talent in the country.

To be honest, I don't know if Duke really has higher academic standards for their athletes than other schools. They very well might. Notre Dame certainly doesn't. Notre Dame football sucks in part because they have the biggest jackass in the country running the program, but that's a separate discussion.

In this day and age, not many major schools can afford to hold their athletes to anything higher than the NCAA minimum. Notable exceptions from BCS-conference schools are Northwestern and Stanford. Duke may, as well. They can get their pick of which ever high school basketball stars they want, so they could pick the smarter ones. And their football program certainly seems to be built on academics, not athletics.

Could be. Both are total whores for the highest bidder and both can be a bit shady when it comes to recruiting. So there are some similarities. But hey, it's the SEC, where rules are made to be broken.

For some reason I thought you were the Duke fan so I thought you were defending him... Whoops. Looks like you weren't.

Pretty difficult game to watch last night... :( To me at least, we looked badly affected by the big stage. Our decision making was off - we made dumb passes, took dumb shots, and didn't really even try to create offense. Fair play to UNC, but I'll be rooting for Michigan St. I can not stand Tyler Hansbrough.

I'm not the biggest fan, don't think he will be much in the NBA either, but he should be lauded for staying at UNC for 4 years reckon it's been worth it

Can't imagine what's there to dislike about Hansbrough. Seems a stand up bloke if there ever was one in college basketball.

Having watched him over the last 4 years, and met him in his sophmore season, I share this.

No ego, a team player, and a smart man... Sometimes hatred for an atlhere stems from success and respect, 2 things he has in bunches.

The storybook ending to a great career hopefully tommorow night
