Marcel Sabitzer | Signs for United

I'm surprised by this to be honest. He's a very different midfielder to Eriksen in that he's not as technical or as good at passing as Eriksen is.

Eriksen's role this season as been the player to help us keep possession when previously we would struggle to when put under pressure, also the ability to play through the lines and open up defenses from deep.

Sabitzer isn't that type of player, he's not as calm on the ball as Eriksen is and will push forward more. He's definitely more energetic than Eriksen so he will cover more ground, but in terms of providing us someone who can hold the ball in midfield, he won't be that and that's what we will most without Eriksen.
Finding a midfielder with Eriksen's mould and skillset on deadline day is mission impossible.

Signing a midfielder with some pedigree is good enough for me. If it means Casemiro and Bruno have to adapt then so be it.

Chelsea are an omnishambles so there's no chance they'll gazump us on any transfer that doesnt involve a big transfer fee.

I mean I'd rather him than no signing and having to play McTominay. So I'm pleased if this goes through.

Should be good enough to slot alongside Casemiro and Fernandes I'd imagine.

if it gets done, woudl this be one of our quickest deals in quite some time?

Falcao, was he done on same day as initial link / enquiry?

EDIT: im sure i am forgetting something

For all we know Utd knew the extent of the injury 24 hours ago and are just releasing it now as Sabitzer is about to get over the line. Still fast obviously.

Reckon he'll be useful for us alongside Casemiro, if we get him in on loan?

I haven't seen him play since his RBL days where he looked more like a hard running AM with an eye for goal. Think he played on the right a lot and had a decent cross?

Completely different kind of player to Eriksen so the manager will have to tinker with the game plan, but he strikes me as a good addition to the options we currently have at CM. Or maybe more an option to cover Bruno, especially with DvB out too?

I’m excited about this. Paul Merson’s derision is the ultimate stamp of approval
I hope we sign him and proves him wrong, Merson is asking to be proven wrong.
He’s right in saying Sabitzer doesn’t get on for Bayern but look at the midfield Bayern have that keep him out of the team. With a run of games beside Casemiro he will be a great addition for the rest of the season. If it doesn’t work out then it’s only a loan and lost wages, well worth the risk.

So he's basically an Austrian Fred.

Nice.

He's just said that Jorginho is 'outstanding, a top signing'. Guarantee if you swap Sabitzer and Jorginho around he would say exactly the same. The guys a bellend.
Guarantee he had never heard of Sabitzer. Probably had a quick look on his wiki page during the ad break.

Sabitzer was mostly playing the offensive third at RBL and his skills were more rounded in terms of dribbling, passing, shooting than Eriksen's, which were more focused towards playmaking and why he's transitioned to a deep playmaker well, not sure Sabitzer can.
If his father is a better player than McTominay we would happily take him.

Sabitzer would be a surprisingly smart signing by United. Having been trained in that RB Leipzig pressing style, he brings energy and work rate to midfield. However, he's also a good passer and striker of a football.

Sabitzer would be the Fred upgrade we have probably been searching for. Someone who's got energy but who can get the ball forward competently.

Didn't realise our recruitment bods were capable of this kind of coherent planning!

This would actually be one of the better deals for a panick buy, not opposed to this.

We are on deadline day and found out Eriksen is out for the season basically, so yeah you adapt and find somebody so that Fred and Casemiro aren't forced to play every single minute. Sabitzer is kind of like a blend of Fred and McTominay I'd say. Attacking box to box, gets shots off, moves with the ball, presses it a lot but yeah not too much of a playmaker. We adapt though. I'd say it's as good as we could possibly have hoped for, equal to tielemans but provides different qualities where tielemans would be closer to being like for like.

yeah probably correct

the famous one for me is Andy Cole. No links and suddenly boom, in Manchester contract signed

but this was before social media so maybe a lot easier back then to keep things quiet

Yeah, you literally panic when shit hits the fan like it has today, what else we meant to do go back in time 2 weeks?
I know ye, he chats so much crap that guy.

Bayern that are letting him go for free? He barely gets a sniff there, he's been nothing but a squad filler.
Have you seen Bayern's depth (centre forward position withstanding) ? Eriksen would barely get a sniff there.

Ah yes, very good point!

Get the German flight trackers ready.

They are already on standby commander!

No idea why I've been so invested in this.
I avoided Sancho, FDJ, Sanchez, Vidal, all of them feckers.

This one got me hooked.

what point are you making?

do you think Bayern will just let us have him despite Chelsea offering more money?
Bayern and United don't have a bad relationship, ten hag worked there in the past too. It helps.

I guess we are not in a position to pick what we want as a replacement for Eriksen. Not that we know what options are out there, but this does look like a decent one.

I would've loved it if he were to come in before Eriksen's injury as 3rd choice behind Eriksen, and push McT out of the rotation.

This Bayern aren’t that good. I believe he’s get in there somewhere.
anyway I hope there’s an option here. Especially if it isn’t some mad fee since we could upgrade Scott with him and solve a huge problem for us.

He'd be an okay squad player same as Sabitzer, but Bayern start with Kimmich, Goretzka and also have Musiala. Very few midfielders are breaking in there. Sabitzer and Gravenberch barely get a look in.

Sounds very negative sadly?

Will be our best signing from Bayern in the past 10 years. Doesnt take much to beat Bfs.

Don't think this is true. Eriksen only completes 78% of his passes. He does definitely help us break the lines and provide creativity.

Why don’t he talk about Chelsea spunking millions on a player that only signed for Benfica in July.
Init. They’re obviously panic buying because they’re in a state! But nothing gets said. We’re panic buying because we’ve lost a player.
