Marcel Sabitzer | Signs for United

We're taking a player off bayern.

Excuse me for being wary

Nobody brought up the fact that he basically has been used a substitute for almost his entire time at bayern. Rarely gets a start. Not saying thats an easy thing to do breaking into a goretzka/kimmich or whoever midfield, but he was clearly signed as a rotation/backup player.
Christ alive, the monster that is Bayern nabbed an exciting player from a team and he was a rotational player. Doesn't mean he's bad ffs.

Bayern steal basically any Bundesliga player they won't, regardless of whether they actually need them.

We desperately needed another player to take the load off some of the players in the squad and this seems like a great addition.

I'm happy with this deal and don't understand why anyone would be negative about it.

Well yeah, if he were totally shite and couldn't cut it then that would be true, but he's just been unlucky and played 40 times last season.

If you look at those 40 times he has played, barely any were as a starter and most were just short 15-20 minute appearances.

They barely let this man complete a full 90 minutes.

Our passing will drop a bit but we'll be much harder to play against IMO. Better at winning the ball up the pitch, quicker and more dynamic midfielders. Might hurt a bit in some lower table games but it'll balance out. Just glad we'll have 2 players who you can trust their fitness and energy in Fred and Sabitzer now.
Yep. I think this is about as good as you’re ever going to get on a deadline day loan

I mean.. we are getting a rotation/backup player, on loan, to temporarily replace some of or injured players.

Sky Sports Germany are currently showing footage of him checking through passport control at Munich Airport. They believe he should be due to arrive in Manchester at around 20:00hrs however, Chelsea were also rumoured to be in the running, had the Fernández transfer fallen through, but that looks very much a done deal now.

Flight left ages ago, it is now approaching Belgian airspace.

Would be great if he makes Merson look the clown that he is!
If you are talking about his comments about United not making top 4 without Eriksen, to be fair to him, he said that this morning BEFORE we were heavily linked with Sabitzer.

I'm very impressed by the speed things are happening the moment we found out Eriksen's injury is bad. Under the circumstances Sabitzer is very much welcome here and is a required piece of the puzzle we definitely need to have any hope of this season being a success in different competitions.

Thumbs up to anyone involved with this. Nice to see United decision makers being competent for a change :smirk:

We asked about the guy Aouar from lyon, tielemans and Saul was also talked about apparently. Glad we went for sabitzer out of them options.
Aouar is a very technically gifted player.

Would be fine with that except who is replacing Eriksen then? He is almost the first name on the teamsheet.

Worrying. Lets hope this lad pans out.

We'll all feel like pure shit come the summer if he's amazing for us and we can't buy him. :(

There should always be an option to buy in these deals.

A few thoughts from my Bayernfan-point-of-view:

Sabitzer had an abysmal first year. He played very poorly and it clearly showed that he was lacking confidence. In the end he didn't play much last year.
Then, in the summer he had a good pre-season. Gravenberch had a good pre-season as well, yet it was Sabitzer who occupied the vaccant midfield slot in the abscence of the injured Goretzka at the start of the season.
Bayern as a team did well and he also was playing very solid. Many Bayernfans liked that he provided a nice balance in the central midfield with Kimmich. After a few bad team-results the "hype" faded a bit, but he still was doing solid.

The first "big game" of the season was at home against Barcelona. Bayern had no control of the game and Sabitzer was very poor. He was subbed off for Goretzka at half-time, which was one of the factors which changed the momentum of the game.
After that there was a further bit drop of form and Nagelsmann tried to phase in the (injury-prone) Goretzka. Sabi started the next big game: Away in Dortmund. He got an early yellow card and showed another poor performance and again was subbed off at half-time.

Since then he hasn't started one game (excl. the last CL-group game) and is used as a sub- however other players have overtaken him now in the picking order, even Gravenberch.

If you ask me for his strengths and i weaknesses i would honestly struggle. He can be a solid player, runs a lot, good fit if your team is pressing, he seems down to earth and doesn't throw a fit when he isn't playing. We havent seen any of his goal-scoring abilities (especially long shots) which he was supossed to have at Leipzig.
Maybe he can find this quaility back with more confidence which seems to be an issue. I didn't like his passing, it seemed quite limited. Overall not many striking strenghts.

I really don't want to spoil the transfer for you. Keep in mind that it is a very hard to play in the Bayernmidfield since we are only playing with 2 central midfielders and have a very attacking style. Bayernfans are also very critical with their players, especially their midfielders (you should read the comments on Goretzka lol).

The biggest take-away from my post should be that your club really has to make sure Sabitzer won't lack confidence.

We had players like that over the years when we were a proper team. Berbatov was a sub most days, Carrick also when he first joined. Veron could hardly get a kick. Sometimes the symptom of a very good established side is that some very good players can't play as much as they would like to.

What sort of player did you expect to get at the eleventh hour on loan?

Seems like a sensible option to me.

Get your own place, have some kids, go dating, have a job that you sometimes have to take home, join a gym. Whatever hours you have left in the day, you don't want to waste on Bayern vs fecking Hertha Berlin.

Sabitzer was with RB Leipzig when United played them. Quality player and sometimes people observe rather than just watch United play. There's a difference. Just because you're busy doesn't exclude you from observing the opponents of United, especially the captain under Nagelsmann

"Panic buy" is an overly negative term in this context, as it implies a response driven by fear, lack of planning or some fault on the club's part.

When in this case we simply didn't need to sign a midfielder this January and could happily have waited until the summer. Then Eriksen got injured, which changed our needs. And we've responded with this deal.

It's a last minute deal because the need arose at the last minute, but there doesn't seem to be any particular sense of panic or fault involved.

Already well on his way.

Sabitzer is better than most midfielders you have, so he could definitively end up starting even after Eriksen returns.

It might be Fred. It might be McTominay. It might be Sabitzer. It will probably depend on form and availability.

He's a decent player and he's on loan. You don't tend to get world class players for a 6-month loan on the 31st of January. At least we have some depth to rotate again.

It's SHITE being United! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the fecking Earth! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some hate City. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are COLONIZED by wankers. Can't even find a decent culture to be colonized BY. We're ruled by effete arseholes. It's a SHITE state of affairs to be in, Mockney, and ALL the midfield signings in the world won't make any fecking difference!

It's basically this, though the absence of an option will mean you'll have to compete for his signature. But yes, him being somewhat settled and comfortable will obviously help his decision. There's no doubt we'll be ready to sell him though and we usually don't ask much for players that are surplus to requirement.
It sounds a bit like you didn't find yourself in a position right now to make any kind of meaningful transfer offer, what with the financial uncertainty of a looming sale, not in this short amount of time left in the window anyway.
I also wonder if no option was included because it's deadline day and additional parameters to a deal are cumbersome to draw out (?) Probably not that.

Anyway it looks a deal to suit all clubs. Lets hope he's not a Saul!

Alright but we played them twice and absolutely no one in the world can give an accurate description of a player from two games they watched years ago. I also watched those games and I don't remember him, I also watched them play PSG and all I remember was their managers jacket. Doesn't mean I might not have noticed him during the games themselves though. I've not seen his name in this place ever.

They also signed Gravenberch one of the hottest midfield prospects in Europe and he rarely gets a game either. Kimmich and Goretzka is a world class midfield who are going to be first choice when fit.

Look it’s an 11th hour loan when it looked like we wasn’t getting anybody this is about as good as it gets under the circumstances and he’s a better player than the likes of McTominay so feck it.

Bayern steal basically any Bundesliga player they won't, regardless of whether they actually need them.

And Bayern weaken their direct opponent by taking their club captain before/after taking Nagelsmann.
