Stupid decision to give him a new contract

I'd sack him even if the contract got signed earlier today.

Get Martin Ho in after the Norwegian season is over in October, maybe? Done a pretty good job at Brann and knows the club.

I was pretty disheartened to hear about the contract extension despite the cup win, but I read elsewhere that it would make more sense to sort out managerial issues after this INEOS transition is sorted a bit. I guess that does make some sense - my thinking is, let Emma Hayes do a year in the US then say to her "You've managed the rest, now manage the best!"

Someone else suggested Ole - some of our players are fans and respect his legendary status. He's an advocate for the women's game, he supports his daughter as a player, and I don't think his tactics in the men's game were that bad. It wasn't his fault that a lot of our players couldn't be bothered to perform regardless of who was in charge.

The other thing with Skinnerrrrr! is how he doesn't play our full squad propery, as others said with regard to Irene Guerrero. It was the same with Adriana Leon. A skillful bully of a striker who practically carried the Canada team in the WC games I saw, and apparently she wasn't 'good enough' for us.

A very thoughtful post. I'd rep if I could, but I am not important enough :smirk:

When will Skinner report back to Carrington for duty and how much is he in contact with the transfer department during this busy period of "free agency"?

No idea how reliable this is or not, but we could have the Wolfsburg manager taking over at the end of the 24/25 season. He’s already announced next season will be his last at Wolfsburg, and apparently he did some coaching with ten Hag at United last year. Anyone know how he’s regarded at Wolfsburg, and would this be a good appointment for us?

I honestly don't know. I've read a few fans who know him from Wolfsburg talking about him. I have a horrible feeling that we might be looking at switching one manager who gets criticised for getting obsessed with playing the same players every week with another one who does the same

What I don't know though is what his reputation is like on the other side of the story. Maybe he's great at bringing through young players, integrating new players, tactical astuteness, player morale etc?

Interesting to hear that we're talking to him though because it implies someone's paying attention, so I'll take that as a positive.

I guess we're wondering what you could say to a player who arrives looking that happy to shake her boss's hand after scoring a hattrick to make her look that fed up.

There’s a place and a time for feedback. That wasn’t it in my opinion. Feels like he does it for the cameras, just like Pep; Arteta etc.

I get the feeling that he just wants to be liked. The fact is though that we have no idea what was said - something and nothing really. Enjoy the win.

If it was something positive, Tooney wouldn’t have reacted that way. After a hat trick in a derby after just coming back from injury, if it was anything else than positive…

The only "clue" I have is Skinner's post-match interview where he said he asked her if she had enjoyed it. I agree though, that ought to have been behind the scenes.

You are purely speculating on what is said. Manager giving player feedback isn't a big deal.

Agreed. Without knowing exactly what was said, and why he thought it was important to say it then and there, I'm not gonna judge.

I think Skinner deserves more credit than he has got from the fans - at the halfway point in the season, we cant expect much more than joint 2nd and still in the cups

Although Ive probably just jinxed the league cup derby !

Did she enjoy it, while motioning tactics with his hands?

It’s just unnecessary. Pep might do it, but it’s not what makes him a good manager, it’s more that he gets away with those methods because he’s so good at coaching. The happiness drained from her face instantly and I don’t how that can possibly be considered good leadership.

Must admit through gritted teeth that we've done well recently. I mean I'm happy naturally, but when it comes to Skinner it's difficult for me to praise him. If he finishes in the top three (and maybe even wins another cup) it's been a decent season. I don't think he's capable of taking the next big step forward with us but that's perhaps not relevant at this moment.

At the moment I'm willing to admit that I'm less annoyed with him than I was last season. Essentially because he has started to use subs more instead of sticking with things until the last 5 minutes and then just throwing on Williams, Parris, Malard etc to try and salvage things.

I still have doubts about his man management and his player development skills though and I don't think I've seen anything change there.

I also hate the way he talks about games and his players but I can ignore that by ignoring him. Which I suspect is what Ella Toone can normally do as well

I tend to agree. I have felt frustrated with him for a good while, but credit where it is due, he has done well this season.

I’m actually feeling pretty optimistic about the women’s team at the moment. Despite losing so many key players we’ve got a very strong squad now, and for the first time in ages there isn’t any drama about contracts so things are pretty stable too. It seems all our best players actually want to carry on playing for us, for once.

But with that said, Skinner really needs to deliver this season and repay the faith the club has shown in him - top three in the league and another cup final (if we can avoid Chelsea) should be the bare minimum

Funnily enough the only big contract drama for this season is Skinner himself. His deal expires at the end of the season and as far as I am aware there hasn't been a dickie bird of a rumour about an extension (though that may be more to do with INEOS than anything else).

From what I have heard United have an option on Skinners contract and can extend him automatically for 1 more season without negotiations. I mean with the mens team being in even more trouble, I would expect INEOS to perhaps not come around completely to the womens team. So if Skinner can knick 3rd place or win a cup he might have a chance to get 1 more season. (unless the Wolfsburg coach is already agreed)
