He’s a monster. Up there with any keeper in history surely and still quite clearly the best in the world.
SAF said that he wanted Neuer but Steele was sure that De Gea would be better by 2014. Well, i don't know if we had actually approached Neuer, but we can be sure that Steele was wrong. During 2012-2017 the gap between them was not that big, but eventually Neuer has been a far better keeper for a longer period than DDG.
Beside saves, and his sweeping ability helped the tea, greatly. Allowing Bayern to press forward, playing slower players without being afraid of runners.
I love how he always plays with confidence.
Possibly. I don't think that any position has improved as much as the goalkeeper. And Neuer has both the performances and achievements to go with that (World Cup, 2 UCL, 8 league titles, 5 domestic cups).
I think he edges it ahead of Buffon.

Terrific performance. He was there for his team when they needed it and a made a couple crucial saves
The gap was always huge. Ever since Atletico, De Gea has had this scared, boyish presence which pales horribly in comparison with Neuer’s monumental posture and huge confidence. Neuer’s ability to PLAY FOOTBALL, not just make saves (which he also has done pretty much better than anyone) is from another planet. De Gea has never had even a fraction of Neuer’s football intelligence, courage and leadership and distribution skills.
I said he was six years ago and I still stand by that. Can't think of anyone who comes close.

Now he's above Buffon in my opinion now. To win two UCLs (and one World Cup), with great performances in each. He's now the greatest of his generation.

Massive for them today. Apart from the big saves, he was calm at the back and distributed the ball extremely well.

In terms of peak performance he is one of the best ever no doubt. He can play both types of goalkeeping equally well, the traditional stay on your line and make a great save stuff and the progressive stuff leaving the box and timing the run, passing the ball. Really the complete package and he allows your team to play a higher line too.
But also let’s not forget he has been prone to some bad mistakes and keeper is such an important position to avoid them. In that way Buffon has been more consistent and was the definition of reliable at the highest level (not recently but he is 42 I mean Buffon well into his 30s) and an unreal shot stopper in his earlier days. So I’d probably still give it to Buffon slightly but Neuer is an all time great.
