We're stuck in some rotation purgatory. The first eleven isn't settled, can't get going but you'd feel that these games at home against Derby or Young Boys were perfect opportunity to try to get that kick start on offence.
That chance has been passed up, and the players rotated seem always be the ones he can know will make the game even more cagey and negative.

Pereira, Herrera, Alexis, Pogba, Dalot, Mata, Bailly.

Lingard, Fellaini, Matic, Jones, Valencia.

Looking at those two groups, you'd just know Mourinho would go for the workhorses again.

There is no bigger picture with this selection, no effort to get something going. Just scraping by trying to get through the group, none the wiser about the best starting eleven for this squad tomorrow.

Edit: just seen the team sheet, bad times when seeing Fellaini in there no longer brings that “ughhh what the Feck” feeling but instead seeing Jones and Matic in the line up brings that on.

There is no problem if it works. But the lineup does not evoke too much hope.
More importantly, the comments about team selection if because it goes against what Jose keeps saying. He wants movement and aggressiveness. Out of form Matic and Fellaini are not going to give you that. Jose says he doesn't want the team to start slow. Then picks slow moving players.

Jose was never going to use Dalot regularly and I pointed this out before the season started.
I was actually shocked when he started a game, a while back, but since then he hasn't played.
