Newcastle United Football Club (nicknamed The Magpies) is a professional football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The first record of football being played on Tyneside dates from 3 March 1877 at Elswick Rugby Club. Later that year, Newcastle's first football club, Tyne Association, was formed. The team was renamed Newcastle East End F.C. in October 1882. Shortly after this, another Byker side, Rosewood FC, merged with East End to form an even stronger side. Meanwhile, across the city, West End Cricket Club began to take an interest in football and in August 1882, they formed Newcastle West End F.C. West End played their early football on their cricket pitch, but in May 1886, the club moved into St. James' Park.

The two clubs became rivals in the Northern League. During the spring of 1892, in a season during which West End's results were at an all-time low, and in which they had lost to their bitter rivals, East End, five times, West End found themselves in serious trouble. They approached East End with a view to a take over, the directors having decided that the club could no longer continue — leading to a merger of the two rivals as Newcastle East End decided to adopt a new name in recognition of the merger.Suggested names included Newcastle F.C., Newcastle Rangers, Newcastle City and City of Newcastle, but Newcastle United was decided upon on 9 December 1892, to signify the unification of the two teams.

The club has been a member of the Premier League for all but three years of the competition's history, spending 85 seasons in the top tier as of May 2016, and has never dropped below English football's second tier since joining the Football League in 1893. They have won four League Championship titles, six FA Cups and a Charity Shield, as well as the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Newcastle United has the ninth highest total of trophies won by an English club. The club's most successful period was between 1904 and 1910, when they won an FA Cup and three of their First Division titles. The club were highly successful in the Premier League in the 1990s and early 2000s without winning any trophies, but have been mostly struggling since the 2006–07 season, and were relegated in 2009 and 2016.

Newcastle has a fierce local rivalry with Sunderland, and the two clubs have engaged in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898. Newcastle play their home games at St James' Park — which has been the home ground of Newcastle United since 1892 and has been used for football since 1880.

We'll be up for this one and then get smashed in the next fixture.

I hope there is a massive scandal and football is canceled forever.

Amorin's first lineup without Bruno?? Can't remember

Anyway it'll be good to see something new

If Amorim thought United fans were edgy against Bournemouth… Old Trafford will be a graveyard.

Newcastle fans will enjoy themselves though.

Newcastle have found form. While we've completely lost our way. Best we can do is a 0-0

They're going to win this either way, so we should try something new, because the 3-4-3 obviously isn't going to work with these players. Also since Bruno will be suspended it's as good an opportunity as any to experiment with a system that doesn't use him.

I know Amorim likes at least one more offensive player in the midfield two, but I'd go something like:

    Onana

    Mazraoui de Ligt Martinez
    Amad Ugarte Casemiro Dalot
    Eriksen Garnacho
    Hojlund

A few of those players I'm not happy about but we're not exactly overflowing with options in attack, leftback or LCB

Edit: Nevermind, Ugarte is suspended too. Guess something like

    Onana

    Mazraoui de Ligt Martinez
    Amad Casemiro Mainoo Dalot
    Eriksen Garnacho
    Hojlund
    Bleh

A three nil home loss versus these b-words, who'll be decked out in their Saudi kits.

The Regime will want the PR and, worse, there'll be an endless slew of pro-Qatar types pontificating afterward.

A depressing shitshow of the highest proportion.

We just are not a 343 team yet.

    If ever.

We should attempt four at the back, but absolutely not pick Yoro or Mainoo. Their performance tonight should never be tolerable.

    Can see United losing easily.

I think if Amorim can amend the midfield dropping Mainoo for Casemiro it helps how positionally disjointed the team is around the center.

As bad as some of the players are in not suiting the 3-4-3 system many of the current loses are living on poor team selection.

Why don't they get fecking angry? These players are sleepwalking us into a relegation scrap. Give them a proper bollocking, please OT!

For the love of God, no Mainoo in midfield and no Maz at RWB.

    Onana
    Maz Maguire Martinez
    Amad Casemiro Eriksen Dalot
    Zirkzee Garnacho
    Hojlund
I think that means we have 0 attacking options off the bench but what can you do.

The next 3 games are all very likely comfortable defeats, maybe even an humiliation or two. Anything else is a bonus.

Ugarte is suspended for this so we have Casemiro and Mainoo/Erison in the middle. Given we can’t score it’s how many Newcastle score. We are seriously fecked this season

    Christ, I forgot such.

Ugarte is a good player who dispossesses well but is a yellow card machine.

Can't we just sign a player whose better attributes are not counter-acted by some nonsense.

I expect nothing from us this match... I hate having to be so negative towards our club, but I genuinely don't like any of our players(not named Amad, Mazraoui or Ugarte). There are so many thick and mentally(and physically for that matter) weak players.

    Onana
    Maz 'Arry Marty
    Amad Ugarte Casemiro Dalot
    Eriksen Garnacho
    Whoever
We need one player with pace at #10 otherwise it becomes too one paced and easy to defend against.

Newcastle off the back of 4 wins in a row having scored 14 goals and conceded 1. Man United three defeats in a row having conceded 9 goals against teams Newcastle are better than. Anything other that a home defeat will be surprise but is it too much to expect to least make Newcastle work hard to score instead of nodding off in a set piece or gifting a goal with individual error?

If we get turned over here 2/3-0 like everyone expects then where do we actually go? Anfield will be a fecking nightmare. Not known United hit such lows in a long time. We just have to ride through it as things can improve very quickly, but there’s bad and then there’s being genuine relegation level. A result here would be welcome.

Newcastle have hit form and are scoring plenty of goals.
They’re a tall, physically strong and pacy side.
They have players who can run with and make penetrating runs with the ball.
Their tails must be up and relishing at the prospect of their game with us.
I dread this fixture being the warm up act for Liverpool’s onslaught at Anfield.
    We are fecked !
