Middlesbrough Football Club (nicknamed The Boro and Smoggies), are a professional football club based in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. According to Boro folklore, the idea for forming the football club was suggested during a tripe supper at the Corporation Hotel, Middlesbrough, and while this has since been discovered by club historian Harry Glasper to be untrue, it is certainly true that like many football clubs of the time, Middlesbrough were formed by members of the local cricket club wishing to stay fit during the winter.

They won the FA Amateur Cup in 1895 and again in 1898. The club turned professional in 1889, but reverted to amateur status in 1892. They turned professional permanently in 1899. After three seasons, they won promotion to the First Division, where they would remain for the next 22 years. Middlesbrough enjoyed their modern peak with the appointment of former Manchester United legend Bryan Robson in 1994, followed by signings like Neil Cox, Jan Åge Fjørtoft, Nigel Pearson, Fabrizio Ravanelli, Juninho Paulista, Emerson, Paul Ince and Nick Barmby. The club plays its home games at the Riverside Stadium, which was built to replace Ayresome Park (1903-1995).

Bogey side who have already drawn away to Arsenal and City

    Won't be easy :nervous:

They are a bit shit. Should win this.
The team selection would be interesting.

Can we afford to rest Zlatan and Carrick?

West Ham away two days later.

With City and Liverpool playing each other this is another chance to close the gap to one or both.

Start Pogba, Ibrahimovic, and Mkhitaryan and we'll win.

They have some really tough to handle players!

Gaston (slime ball who can have play-off form on any day)
Negredo (I'm already fearing any cross and corner)
    Downing
    Chambers
    Fabio :(
and Valdes who have his own little personal thing with us. He's been really good for them.

I think we'll win but Boro have caused us quite a few problems in years gone by.

Kind of feel like Carrick should be rested here especially with a tough away game close by.

    De gea
    Valencia Jones Rojo Blind
    Herrera Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Rooney Martial
    Ibrahimovic
Lets hammer them plus with Rooney getting his goal finally. Would end the year nicely.

Yes, if we lead by 2 substitute Ibra as we need him fit against West Ham.

    De Gea

    Darmian Jones Rojo Blind

    Fellaini Pogba

    Mkhi Rooney Martial

    Ibrahimovic

Thought for some reason this was on friday so being on saturday means I'll miss this.

Hate Borough, always feel like they're a bogey team of ours. Don't know if that's actually true though, just seem to remember it that way.

I agree with this, we need Carrick at West Ham.

They're really not that bad. They try to play football the proper way, but get stuffed against teams that are better at that approach than them.

I think we'll win 3-0, here, but they're not a bad team at all.

That should be the team I guess but Jose might play Damian again.

The 4-1 sticks out in my mind, Boxing Day about 13/14 years ago? Think it was the game that produced Keane's rant.

    De Gea
    Valencia Jones Rojo Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Ibra Martial

I'm busy this week so I'll go for an early prediction...

    DDG
    Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Darmian
    Blind
    Herrera, Pogba
    Mkhitaryan, Martial
    Zlatan

SUBS - Rashford (Martial), Lingard (Mkhitaryan), Fellaini (Darmian)

    Manchester Utd 4 - 1 Middlesborough
    Zlatan, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Lingard.
    Negredo for Boro.

I think we're going to have to rotate in this game or the West Ham match.

    De Gea
    Valencia--Jones--Rojo--Darmian
    Herrera--Pogba
    Mkhitaryan--Mata--Martial
    Ibrahimovic

I think we'll rotate a bit in this game though. Wouldn't be surprised to see Fellaini start. Traore is going to skin Blind or Darmian.

Got my dad the VIP match day package for his birthday for this game. Looking forward to meeting the "ex united legend" they say is part of the package and who talks to you about the club generally. It should be David fecking Beckham for the amount the VIP package costs!

I think it is more important to win this game than West Ham so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't rotate much although I'm going to go out on a limb and say Carrick plays both games.

What game am I thinking of? Tbf, I'm sure it was later in the year anyway.
You're thinking of the 2008 game, during the run-in. It finished 2-2, Afonso Alves scored twice.

Just lost to burnley and southampton away and their last 3 away before that were draws.

They seem defensively well organised as they have given 2 goals or more only twice in last 13 games.

I must be completely getting mixed up then because I'm thinking of a game before 2006. Must have been 2005.
