Prefer McT to Casemiro but can't see us holding midfield.

What? They're missing Alisson and Konate and have good deputies for them although they're big losses. Trent being out just improves them defensively. The rest of their team is their first choice team. We'll do well to get a draw here.

You must be joking. Quansah and Gomez (who can be a liability at times and was the butt of all jokes one here) are a huge downgrade. Trent is practically one of the highest rated PL players for chance creation and assists in the last few years, and i think Liverpools top assister in a couple of the recent seasons, it's a huge loss to them.

Liverpools full backs are integral to how they play. And only last week they were saying that Robertson had been well off the pace since coming back, so chances are he won't even be at his best.

Midfield isn't great if we're being honest (we're out of options to be fair) and i had hoped Liverpool might have played a few more of their youngsters but, our attack is at full strength, and the defence isn't bad.

    We can do this :wenger:

They don't need any extra chance creation against us, even the likes of Luton get 15+ shots off on us. I wish I shared your optimism.

Having AWB and Hojlund back makes the balance look better - even more so if we hadn't then lost Casemiro!

Though how (match) fit either of them actually are I'm not sure. I think it would have been ideal if they'd have been able to be slowly eased back with a sub appearance or two - especially AWB. However the timing of their return means we've probably rushed them straight into the line up for a huge game because needs must.

I'm not expecting either to be at their sharpest, but hopefully they'll be able to put in decent performances and especially hope neither break down and end up back on the treatment table!

Like that team other than the midfield. But then we don’t have a midfield most of the time anyway, so…

They still played City off the park with a much weakened team. They play the same way no matter who starts.

I think the 2 major decisions (Lindelof over Maguire, McTominay over Amrabat) suggest that Ten Hag thinks we need a slightly higher line and more goal threat as we're not winning this one 1-0.

Happy to see Hojlund back. Hope he hasn't been rushed back from injury. Playing one CM against arguably the best team in the country is suicide and it will likely bite us in the ass but at this point it is what it is. I've just come to accept that Ten Hag will never change.

West Ham up 1 against Villa. edit: no, West Ham up 2! Edit 2: aw, goal ruled out. Half time but West Ham is on top of Villa.

I remain, this will be a good day for us. We will crush LFC like a little insect under your boot. Its on!

An opponent player (even more when its a player from a rival club) being the butt of all jokes on here doesnt make them a bad player. Trent is the butt of all jokes on here too and Trent is an excellent player.

Gomez is a good player when he has Virgil van Dijk next to him.

Case injured again. In Madrid he was fit all the time but with us he has 2-3 injuries per season. Something is seriously wrong with either ETH's trainings or our medical staff
He’s been playing more minutes than he did with Madrid, being asked to cover a lot more ground, and is two years older than when he left them.

Genius prediction or gonna age terribly in a couple of hours. Can't wait to find out.
Where do you get more control from our line-up? With McT in midfield, control is highly unlikely.

He saying Liverpool should be putting us to the sword. Otherwise the post makes no sense :)

On a separate note, why does it seem that each player is being thrown back into the team on the exact day they are available again? Other clubs give them a game or two off the bench usually, whilst for us they're straight back in and usually get injured again.
I think it's needs must on this occasion - but it certainly seems a far from ideal gamble.

It's just such a huge game, and we've no competent alternatives, so the likes of AWB and Hojlund look like they've been rushed back straight into the starting line up when, as you say, easing them back in would have been the ideal scenario.

It just feels, timing wise, they've opted for the gamble of starting them and seeing how long we can get out of them. Great to see both back, just really hope neither break down and end up missing more games.

How dare you spread lies here. No way a team can play with the same pattern and rhythm unless all the 11 players of managers first choice are starting.

    Pattern and rhythm

Because unlike us they have a top coach that imprints his football on the entire squad.

You can when you have a squad that was build for it. It becomes harder when replacing Martinez for Maguire/Lindelof. Not only is Martinez ten times better, he also plays really different in a way that is vital to the desired style of play. Same with missing Shaw and replacing him with Lindelof. Or replacing striker Hojlund with pretend striker Rashford. That changes the whole way of play.

I think Mainoo being in DM will be positive for us on the ball as he’s much better at receiving it in tight spaces compared to Casa. Off the ball though, that’s were we will have issues and I can see their midfield getting some big chances.

Itv .. drag out the old codger sourness ffs listen to his crap. Well we got no chance according to everyone.. let's see shall we. Like 77 everyone was tuning in to watch the scumbags win... that didn't happen either..come on lads

Casemiro would get his first yellow for jogging onto the pitch and his 2nd for a clean challenge on Salah. McTom will probably last about 12 mins longer.
Even 12 minutes of McTominay is too long. Let’s hope he can at least pop up with a goal because he isn’t bringing much else.
