Manchester United vs Liverpool

It's a nice feeling to be confident going into games again. I don't think that was the case at any point last season.

Literally everywhere. More or less every Utd fan I know/have seen on forums/twitter/facebook is confident of beating us tonight.

Where have I acted as if we've reached the pinnacle of football?

Haha. More or less.

Don't get me wrong, I obviously care about the result but only because it's Liverpool-United. Any other team and I wouldn't give a shit ala the games vs Milan/City/Olympiakos.
And yet I don't see a single person suggesting it will lead to us winning the league this season. What you said wasn't about Utd fans thinking they'd win.

Yes but that's just it isn't it? It's a rival game, not a friendly. Doesn't matter one bit what people say both sides will be there for the win and anything less will see them bitterly disappointed.

Well, even though it's a pre-season friendly, one team will quite obviously be going out to prove a point. The other not so much.

Nevertheless, I hope we absolutely fecking batter you.

Where the feck is this shit coming from? you've lost your best player and finished 2nd for the first time in five years. The season after that you finished mid-table.

I think you've a lot to prove.

Well, perhaps that was slight hyperbole on my part. Even so, I have seen shouts saying that you will be contenders. The vibe I get from United fans at the moment is that pre-season is very much setting yourselves up for a return to your previous selves. Even without competitive football being played, there is astounding confidence. And it will only grow if you win tonight.

Not in a pre-season friendly.

Not in a pre-season friendly.
Football fans being confident of winning a friendly based on how we've been playing in friendlies. Whatever next. For what it's worth it's not just Utd fans who think we'll win. Bookies make us twice as likely too.

Not in a pre-season friendly.

Ok, then why are we the ones going out with a point to prove if it's just a pre-season friendly? our players, who have won PL titles, are lacking experience so much that a win over you lot would have the players on the top of the world? the mighty title winning machine that is Liverpool.

Don't flatter yourself.

They have to prove that last season wasn't a one off which is more than worthy to take this game a little more seriously

The level of arrogance on show from the Scouse brigade is astounding.

ONE decent season - in which they eventually flopped - and they act like they've ruled the roost for years, passing condescending judgement on every team they finished ahead of last season.

Unbelievable.

For a 'nothing' game that whatever the outcome does not matter, they can't seem to stop talking about it. I smell fear.

A win is always better than a loss, pre-season or no

Meaningless game apparently

In fairness to the scouse, they were doing that when they were shit too, even with the third of the league that finished above them

It's quite baffling when you read some of the dippers posts, they are suddenly a top draw team again after one season.

Delusion is one of the things RAWKites do best. There will be a poem for their situation soon. Mark my words.

And probably another book about the tour "We dared to dare ourselves to dream again" or some guff like that.....

The over analysis that this result will bring is going to be something to behold, even by the standards of the caf and rawk i see something coming that is going to keep me entertained for days

Just please, please no fecking injuries. I want to win, obviously, but that pales into comparison next to wanting us to go home without any new injuries.

Markovic, Sturridge, Lovren, Lallana and Moreno and Flanagan/Manquillo (Moreno and Manquillo are both as good as done and will be ours for the start of the season).

I assume that you are saying that your best eleven this year will be:
Mingolet
Johnson - Lovren - Skrtle - Moreno
Gerrard - Henderson
Lallana
Markovic - Sturridge - Sterling
Just interested

Mignolet, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling and Sturridge will all be in our best eleven I would think. The other three positions depend upon what Rodgers wants to do in that particular match.

This match does have a bit more at stake for United for we are the club with changes on a bigger scale than Liverpool. Agreed that Liverpool have also lost Suarez and will need to prove they can remain competitive without him. For them though any loss would be chalked off as pre-season and it wouldn't affect the player/fan morale as much as it normally would.

For us, we have this wave of euphoria in the wake of Van Gaal appointment and change in football style since then (rightfully so) that if we don't win this thing it could dampen our progress just that bit more. Wouldn't be the end all for sure, but it would be sour. Having said that, if we beat the scouse the moral lift that we could get could be similar to momentum we had after the 5-1 drubbing of Fulham in '07.

Can't wait another 3 hours for this...
