Manchester United vs Liverpool (Tue 12th July, 14:00 UK time) | BANGKOK CENTURY CUP CHAMPIONS

They've already started because he had the audacity to not change captain. I wouldn't imagine anyone cares what people on here think, positive or negative.
Not to mention his comments in the presser. Very Moyesque, Olesque according to some.

It's not pretty irrelevant - it's totally irrelevant.

We could win 5-0 or lose 5-0, wouldnt make a bit of difference!
Bah.

The Glazers waking up to the news that United have defeated their biggest rivals in the final of the prestigious… checks notes… Bangkok Centenary Cup will give them confidence that the new lad Arnold knows what he’s doing and deserves to be backed.

If we lose heavily the Jose fans and ABU press won’t shut up about it. Does that matter? Not a lot, probably, but a positive atmosphere would be nice for a change.

Missed that. I'm guessing that was because he suggested we've actually got some decent players at the club?

Of course the results of pre season friendly's are generally meaningless , but you would think personal pride alone would act as incentive for our players not to want to get hammered every time we play one of our biggest rivals , even if it is a no consequence game.

I always though Utd fans outnumber Liverpool in Thailand.
Bangkok Post article here https://www.bangkokpost.com/sports/...t-popular-epl-football-team-to-thai-fans-poll

Decent sample size

But yeah the Utd fans are probably less interested given recent performances. I'm sure lots are intrigued at EtH's first game though (despite it being a friendly). I'm happy to assess that at the comforts of my couch though!
That's from 2016. We were the more winningest team back then. Most of east asia now support City/Liverpool.

We will probably lose this. As long as were not humbled with a big defeat and can at least score. Cant even predict a score as its going into the unknown. Have the players grasped the training techniques already? Who will play? Formation? its all up in the air.
I can see 3-1 or 4-1 being the most likely score.

The summer under LVG where we looked like the greatest team on earth for us to lose at home in the first PL match of that season has ruined pre-season for me.

Oh I agree. And I am enjoying the ride.

The point is, all the good things you mention can be attributed to hard cold logic. Woodward gone; Arnold clearly setting out to change things and shift the focus back onto football; players being targeted for the right reasons*: these are real actions that are really taking place and are likely (not guaranteed, obvs) to improve things. Even a hard-bitten sceptic can see that. It’s those who refuse to acknowledge the changes that are the fanciful ones.

* I’m still a bit of a sceptic where the execution of the changes is concerned. Aside from the De Jong saga, which the club seem to have handled as well as could be expected in the circumstances, I do think it’s disappointing that only one signing has been secured in time for pre-season.

Regarding the * point. i think clubs know how desperate we are to make it work and how set ETH is in his philosophy and who he needs. ETH only got to United a month ago. So the transfer targets were probably quite specific to ETH's needs. We are probably pretty quick this time in view of the fact that we started late in the targeting & negotiation. Thus, the rigidity of the selling club's prices.

Having said that, I do think Malacia will turn out to be a gem. Thighs like Overmars, what can go wrong!

I want ETH to show we have hired the chosen one. Decisive victory please!

What time is KO in the UK?

The result is meaningless but it’s going to be interesting to watch.

I can’t remember this squad ever following a tactic for 90 mins. Sometimes we have seen a half of somewhat decent football. But never a full 90.

Let’s see what ETH can do after a few sessions.

If we win i will proclaim ETH to be the next messiah.

If we lose i will blame our lack of preparation time.

I am ready to be hurt again but this club.

Don't give a shite about the result win, lose or draw.

Just want to see how he sets us up and what style/system he wants us to play. See what type of postions players take up when attacking, how we are without the ball.

See how we are trying to play out from the back.

Looking forward to the football being back.

I want to be impressed by the style of play. And the application of the players. Particularly some of the established ones who have lacked ambition and drive heretofor.

This is our baseline. Let's see the progress as we work our way through the pre-season matches -- and see if there has been a gradual improvement in how we play.
The critical or those we should be invested in as fans are the Atletico and the Rayo Vallecano ones. This match against the scousers is basically a glamourised training session and see how can play what positions.

Is MUTV the only option to watch this game in the US?

Can we just take a stroll back in time to LVG's first pre season. Where we absolutely demolished real madrid playing some of the best football i've seen from a united team post fergie. Convincing many of us of the dawn of a new era....and then he actually got more time with the squad and we all know how that ended. So yes, pre-season friendlies under zero pressure are meaningless.

Hmm. I’m still of the opinion that we’ve gone for ETH’s targets because the club couldn’t come up with acceptable ones of its own.

That said, I don’t think it matters as long as this window is a one-off. The fact that we are going out of our way to buy players someone at the club actually wants, rather than have players foisted upon us by their agents, is a major step forward.

I completely agree re. Malacia. ETH clearly doesn’t rate Telles, and there are major doubts regarding Shaw’s injury-proneness (and possibly his attitude).

I’m going to stick my neck out and hazard a guess that while ETH clearly expects a certain level of technical ability from his players (eg they need to be able to carry out those passing drills without too many mistakes), workrate and attitude (dare I say pashun) are absolutely fundamental to him.

It's rather:

Win - Ten Hag is God and makes miracles, we will win the PL
Loose - Ten Hag is shit and we should've gone for Conte, relegation looms

Nothing inbetween.

Third option:

Sack ETH and hire Poch before we get relegated.

Don't remind me. I was thinking about that the other day. That was such a good pre-season. Playing lovely one touch football and destroying teams and then the PL started and it all fell to pieces.

Agree on all points. Its a one off window. He has also got to learn that the PL has such a big variety of playing styles/philosphies unlike the other leagues. Plus every match is a slog. (He is known to play with a smallish squad and don't rotate much.)
If Pep and Klopp took 18-24 months to adjust, I think we need to give ETH that much to learn on the job.

My country free to air tv channel apparently will broadcast this match though I'm not 100% sure it will work outside my country, no harm in trying. PM me
