Manchester United vs Kristiansund BK (Tue 30th July, 18:00 UK time)

Not going to lie, but i thought we were poor tonight. Attacking was woeful.

Hopefully we took it easy as it was a friendly in every sense. No pressing from us, loose touches galore, bad decision making, poor movement in the final third etc. It's minutes under the belt, hope to see a return to the more energetic approach against Milan.

We still move the ball too slow at times. We really lack a metronome player in midfield. And we've not really been linked with anyone.

Because it winds up their fans, and that is fun.

Whatever floats your boat, man.

Norwegian clubs are horrible in general. Teams can be challenging for the top 4 one season and look like going down the next (Brann/Enga/Tromsø/Stabæk/Start).

Kristiansund might be 7th now, but they are closer to last (11 points) than first place (12 points).
Either way, they just came up from the second division. Hardly some Norwegian giants.

I don't think anyone has ever claimed that Kristiansund are "Norwegian giants".

I agree with a lot of the posts in here ,.pretty bad display , slow and wasting chances, not much difference from last season but when we haven't invested in the squad what do we expect. My plus point from pre season is definitely AWB, James has a lot of work to do which I'm fine with. With Lukaku leaving it leaves rashford ,. martial and greenwood upfront ,.doesn't leave me in great hope especially if they couldn't find the target tonight.but hey ho we will probably smash Chelsea 6 nil now !!

Team that played the first hour was decent with Wan Bissaka and McTominay but we do lack a composed out and out centre forward. Second team wasn't great but there's a reason most of those will be back ups.

We have too many players who have no idea whats going on around them in the final third.

I honestly found this game totally pointless to start with. Didn't get the point of it. These kind of teams you play earlier in pre season when you want to build fitness and not in your full form not 1.5 weeks away from starting the season.

Have done for many years and no sign of one this summer either.

Phil Jones somehow managing to save his own shot with his hand was the highlight of this game.

Our attack has always been the problem. I feel our defence can generally cope as long as the midfield helps protect.

But we lack the creativity and movement to break down defences. When midfield is breaking forward, there are so many times that the forwards run towards the ball rather than create space by making a run

Shots 32 for United and 4 from Kristiansund. On target 12 v 0 and possession 73% for United on another night United would have won that game 4-0 at least. I'm encouraged with the fitness and pressing game United are playing compared to this time last year. Milan up next and another win there will set United up nicely for the serious stuff.

Same things with last season. But yeh, a CB and DM would win us those games. or maybe not?

Just watched the first half, after reading stuff on here I thought James had a stinker.

Would Solskjaer's son be in line to play in any other friendly for them? Find it very cringey and oh so modern football if not.

Quite probably, he had been playing in their B Team but has been training with the senior squad lately so it is a little bit like us playing Garner in a game with multiple subs allowed so that we can get a look at him.

What did he get? 5 minutes? So just ceremonial and cringey typical modern football moment then as expected.

We were inches away from scoring a shitload of goals. Whether it was a good save, a ball just wide (or off the post) or a last ditch effort by a defender making a clearence. On a day where things are going our way we win this game by a very large margin. Total domination. Sure, the scoreline may only say 1-0 with a last minute penalty to win it, but this was a very dominant performace. But of course the "doom and gloom" brigade will only look at the scoreline and nothing else.

Quite a lacklustre performance that reminded me of last season on what was served up. Slow build up and struggling to break down a packed defence. The two Kristiansund GK’s (1st half & early part of 2nd half) reminded me of a typical Burnley GK’s performance at OT.

However I’m glad it happened now rather than during the season when something is at stake. Will give Ole and coaching staff time to iron out those rough edges.

Lack of quality all over the pitch. Not Solskjaer's fault - he only has the tools he's been given, and, to be fair to him, there does at least seem to be a coherent plan in place.

Without much better players in defence, midfield and especially attack, it will all come to nought, though.

Point I was trying to make earlier. Ole's work is clearly visible, and very admirable but the lack of quality limits output. Even the sainted Pep won't achieve anything without quality players. Hopefully we can progress steadily till we get to a state where the team is filled with quality in all positions. Sadly we're too far back to achieve it in one window or even two!

I paid €9 the see all of the pre season games and the MUTV production was so amateurish that I sometimes cringed when watching. Another issue is that I couldn’t watch it on my AppleTV, only iPad, that’s so lame. Wake up FFS, even YouTuber can do better then this.

That's weird, i bought the season for about $30 I have it on Apple TV, ipad and laptop with no issue whatsoever.

His first minutes for the senior team, against Manchester United, coached by his father. You’d had to be quite miserable not to see the charme in that.

I thought our attack was lacking. Never had the final ball and honestly I don't think we ever looked like breaking them down. We already knew going in we would dominate possession and I think it still showed our inablity to break down teams that defend with 10. The best chance of the match also went to them in the 2nd half on that uncontested header in the box. Still Martial and Shaw are really frustrating as they slow the play down too much and Shaw, when offered a wide left touch line, prefers to pull the ball back and make a sideways or backwards pass instead of using his pace to push to the byline. It's night and day compared to the excellent attacking threat Wan-Bissaka gives on the right, looks like that will be a brilliant signing.

Thought the first half was quite poor going forward. The team looked disoriented with no real plan in attack. They just were doing something and trying to do it as quickly as possible.

In the second half with Pogba-Fred-Mata-Pereira there was a lot more structure to our attack. Kristiansund defended more that half, in the first half they often had 3 players stuck forward but in the 2nd half there was just the isolated striker with the other 9 behind the ball which made it more difficult to break down.

We have a pretty good first 11 but too many players lack quality to be top notch. Need that one top attacker to make the other attackers around him better, sort of like Pogba often does in the middle.

AWB is our best signing in years most likely. What a player.

Greenwood doesn't look any worse than Rashford in all honestly. Proper prospect.

Pereira looks better than last season.

Mata looks sharp in the hole (my guess is that he's been involved in most chances this pre-season).

Hard to dissect our defense as a whole considering we're playing a new style or so to speak and it's pre-season and the focus hasn't been on them in the matches.

33 shots at goal with 12 on target and one off the post and we "had trouble breaking them down"? I get it....it's all "doom and gloom"...but give me a break. It's like the ney sayers are just sitting in the wings waiting for something to moan about. It was a dominant game and some of you are acting like we played like shite. If we had trouble breaking them down, then answer one question. Who was their man of the match tonight???

Why are you so miserable?

He only got them because it was against United, coached by his father. It would have been a great moment if it had occurred naturally but it was fabricated probably by some PR guy pitching it starting with the words "guys imagine the likes and retweets". (i'm assuming it didn't come from the Solskjaer's as that would be even worse)

And he probably took a spot from someone who is at this time far more deserving of getting to play what might be a career highlight appearance against one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I just found it cringey as soon as I saw the story break a few days ago. I hate to imagine the reaction on here if it were Terry or Gerrard and their son in the same spot, i'm sure you'd all be singing the same tune as you are now

Tough not to watch this game and think that we have little chance of taking the 6 points we need to from clubs like Palace, Burnley and Watford who can drop deep and make things difficult for us and still pose a threat on the counter.

The only players I'd really say are above average Prem starters against a club parking the bus are Pogba, Mata and Dalot and the latter two (correctly) won't start. Lindelof probably is in possession but isn't a threat on set pieces so he goes back to average. That's shocking.

I think some managers who generally like to attack and press a bit higher are going to abandon those principles against us and let us get the ball out wide, pack the middle and don't allow space in behind for our speedy but headless forwards.

Do you follow the Norwegian league and the club we played against? How do you know there was other more deserving player and Ole's son didn't deserve?

You are making ridiculous argument based on assumptions.

Everyone got to play, even a 16 years old. Noah is 19 and got 7 minutes and he IS part of Kristiansund’s junior team, like many of the others who got this uniqe chance to play against world stars. Why look for problems where there are none.

Chelsea fan.

A player who was injured and had ligament damage came on for the last 5 seconds too.. Nowhere near fit enough to play.. months away.. but he is a United fan so got a chance to get on the pitch.

Totally forgot about the game. Were we any good?

We were dominant, just lacked that little bit of finesse to really cut them open, and to be fair to them, they defended well overall and made no mistakes at the back apart from the one for the pen at the very end, by their 3rd choice keeper who was not fully fit apparently.
