Manchester United vs. Chelsea

Moyes' tactics were actually spot on.

Our wingers and fullbacks let us down today with poor link up and delivery all game.

Anyone who thinks Moyes lost the tactical battle is wrong.

Yeah. he was unlucky that we didnt have Rafael. Hernandez as well to bring on towards the end.

Makes life a lot easier for a center half when the rest of your team is standing five feet in front of you covering pretty much everything. I don't really know what Terry did more compared to the other eight Chelsea defenders to deserve the MOTM really.

He put in a few brave headers!

I agree with you by the way, don't think he was anything special or MOTM material, I was just saying that he had a decent performance.

This post just reeks of someone who'd made their mind up as soon as Young came on the field. Give him a bloody chance.

Alright. He wasn't that bad. I confess. But what Tony did offer - despite his passing letting him down, or rather, his selection, was pace, knocking the ball past Cole and breaking through. Something we didn't have on the left. Now that was not going to happen on either side with Giggs and Young...

but yeah, you were right to call me on it

That was a decent performance. We deserved to win IMO but were let down by the inept wingers. Still, a point against a title rival is never a bad result is it?

I don't think Atkinson would give us a penalty if one of our players got shot in the box.As for the game well Chelsea came for the draw and got it, some of our decision making in the last third was poor, great work rate and tackling back from our lads and I was impressed by Young when he came on.Going off our results against Swansea and Chelsea last season we are 3 points better off and Rooney looked good.Whilst a win would have been nice it was important we didn't lose and give them an early advantage.

I like Nani but to say how important he is after we waltzed to the title last year almost without him seems a bit daft.

He is our best and most productive winger and the only player in the squad not named RVP and Rooney that can pull something out of nowhere.

My stream just ended now :) An intense game with no team goinbg full risk, i had the feeling not conceding was more important than scoring. Not exactly fireworks, but that wasn'T to be expected that early in the season. Schürrle pretty invisible, especially as long as he was in the striker position. I liked Valencias performance. Rooney looking fit and clearly intending to show his dedication to remain at United. He was a bit unlucky at times in his decisions. Van Persie looked at least occasionally his usual dangerous self. Both defense lines profited from their teams careful approach to the game. Neither goalkeeper really had to prove his class.

Unfairly compared to peak performances by last years Bayern or BVB, the pace actually seemed slower. Both teams showed less intensity than Bayern in the midfield and surprisingly less speed in countering after winning the ball.

can't disagree with this

Jones/Valencia's final ball was poor but felt Carrick could have been a bit more positive at times - we kept the ball well though

Kagawa for Rooney might have made a difference as well - Moyes would have found it hard to make that sub with the shitstorm it would create

Not entirely sure how much more Moyes could have done, we started with 3 strikers on the pitch, brought on 2 wingers. Chelsea started with no strikers and brought on the most defensive midfielder in the world and a right back.

Oh come on, neither Danny nor Rooney were strikers tonight. We were almost as negative as Chelsea, keeping the ball between the center-backs an most of the time we attacked was from crosses.

On a side note, this is the first time after 76 games that United drew 0-0 at home. In Moyes first match at home.

Please tell the United staff to stop washing the dishes, I'm trying to listen to Jose.

I don't understand how people can claim Moyes to be happy with a point, United always go for the win at home.

2 points lost. 1 point gained.

1 point conceded. 2 points prevented.

I'm happy.

Meh. Surprised we didn't go for it more, it was pretty clear early on that Chelsea were happy with a point. Should've gone for it.

Moyes probably was happy to debut at OT with a tie. Just for this once, i can understand.

ps. Anyone feels this is how a fixed match look? haha...

Think both teams are relatively pleased with the draw, some good play for us and on another day we could have had 2-3 goals along with the penalty. Missed some big chances at key times (welbecks two come to mind), but overall we were better. Defended well throughout and they only threatened from range.
Comparing to last season, we only had 1 point playing away to Swansea and home to Chelsea so 4 is a good total. Hope we can get something away to Liverpool but it will be a tough game.
