Manchester United Kits 2018/2019

Full kit looks nice

Very washed out for me. Like you washed a white shirt with a red jumper or something. Could be a couple of tones more towards the pink, whithout looking garish.

Yeah we've had a few rotters in the past. And we had the glorious green and gold throughback.

Almost all the kits are red blue black or white. Struggling to see your point mate.
We've had strips in green, yellow, blue, grey, black and white stripes, gold, burgundy etc.

It isn't just those few colours you've oultined, we've had far, far more. Pink isnt completely out of line with that weve had in the past. Anything other than changing the colour of your first kit is fair game in my opinion.

And what happens when you mix red and white?

Can't wait to mix blue and white, play in sky blue and you be ok with it next season

Green and gold was our founding colours so we used them in 92 as a commemorative kit.

We used grey and everyone hated it, twice. Black and white stripes was in 38, and is black and white, black and white stripes is not a colour.

I'm talking about our core colours. Which are red, white, black and blue. Absolutely no disputing that, even if we did once play in green in the 1934/35 season.

A pink kit is something liverpool like to do.

Edit: to each there own but to me it looks shit and its not a traditional colour of united. So it fails on both fronts. We've had shit blue and black kits in recent times but at least thry're the clubs colours.

Well obviously, but it's a style that doesnt agree to what you call our core; we had a variety of colours well before that became somewhat established.

Established colours are for the first team, we are known as a team that players in red, white and black, not blue. It might be more common, but we have more than enough examples of when it wasn't the case. The 2nd/3rd kits are free to a bit of creative flair.

50 different kits with blue on over the years. 16 with kits with a colour that isn't red, black, white or blue.

But sure, blue isn't a core colour.

Id be thrilled if you could quote me where I said that. The fact you've been able to give 16 kits where we haven't used our "core" colour, should suggest to you that having a non core colour isn't some unimaginable travesty. It's happened frequently in the past and will continue happen.

Our identity is red, white and black. If we never had a blue kit again no one would other than the odd nostalgic fan would care.

In many of those kits we actually have used a core colour. In fact we used blur in our earliest ever kits. I counted the black kit with orange trim in the 16 for example. Most of the kits that deviate are pre war as well. So saying frequently is laughable at best.

We're never going to agree so lets just end this here.

So now black shorts aren't a core colour? Makes sense. :wenger:

What are you on mate? Where did i talk about black shorts?
You made the point that those other kits have a core colour in them. But it seems to have escaped you that this pink kit has black shorts with it. Or does that not count now?

Oh, I can totally see Adidas trying to re-create that yellow kit with the blue shorts in the future the way they are going atm.
I'd love to see a recreation of the white away kit with the stripes down the front.

Oh christ, talk about reaching.

I'm out.

Yeah that's reaching.

You try to make some ridiculous point that these previous kits are acceptable, despite failing to match your made up criteria, and when it's pointed out this kit you're complaining about is no different, it's reaching. Logic! I think it's a good time for you to bow out, pal.

Ordered the away shirt and decided I would send it back. Anyone ever tried to send something back to United Direct? It's a total nightmare. This is also the copy on the website, unbelievable:

Should have been black socks IMO, Pink socks just don't work. Maybe a mixture of both to break it up a bit.

Pink kit looks shit.

Our colours are

Red
Blue
White
Black

Modern football.

Bloody hell.

What about grey?

It’s cursed.

I like the pink. It looks smart.

In my opinion away and 3rd kits should have free reign for different design concepts so this whole "pink isnt a United colour" stuff is a bit of a moot point. As long as we wear some combination of red (shirt) and white/black (shorts and socks) for our home kit then we wont loose our identity.

I feel the pink is quite refreshing to the boring white or blue kits we are usually served up.

I might be old fashioned, but I think a few things in football gain their value from traditions and history. Name. Nickname. Home. Colours. Badge.

I get that some people love variety and newness, some even like other clubs. Some love fashion. I don’t think the colours of the kits should be a playground for fashion needs. It’s the closest thing we have to a real flag.

Some would say, ‘I’m bored with the Union Jack, I think we should have a yellow circle to freshen things up a bit’. I disagree. Almost everything else is a playground for fashion these days, so I disagree with those that think we should have pink shirts because they are ‘bored’ Man United’s traditional colours. The yellow and green was a deviance, acceptable only to the extent that it was a genuine expression of United tradition’ imo.

The blue shirt started as a mishap, and grew into a tradition only because The Babes played the cup
final in blue and we won our first European Cup with it. In spite of it’s newness, not because of it. Now it’s been used as main shirt colour for numerous away games, it has a strong history with us. Pink shirts have none whatsoever. (Honestly, pink paper is clearly a disingenuous BS excuse). It’s purely about newness and fashion. I think supporters gear and whatnot are there to be played with. Not the player’s kits, not if we’re not forced to. Not if there is nothing more important at stake.

Some say it’s silly to have strong views on kit colours, and to an extent, I agree. How cool a kit looks shouldn’t be important, or for sale. The traditions that make up our identity, I think are more important. That they are not seen has something that is easily toyed around with to sell products or relieve people’s boredom.

Love the kits this year, but really struggling with which player to get on the back. I always try to get a name as I feel the kit looks incomplete without it.

Already gone down the legend route last year with Beckham 7 on the back, have also already done Ander and Pogba over the past few years. Want to do Martial but seems pointless if he leaves in Jan / next summer, and the likes of Alexis and Lukaku not quite yet name-on-the-shirt worthy for me yet.

Not true, they'd been wearing blue for over two decades at that point - as first choice change kit for 12 years between 1945-57 then third kit after that all the way up to 1990. They wore blue as a change colour when they won the FA Cup under Busby in 1948 and way back in the early 1900s too. http://www.unitedkits.com/kits/seasons/1903.php

I agree, same with the home shirt relating to the clubs history with the railway. Just an excuse to copy other kits with the gradient.

Normally it doesn't take me long to get used to the new kit but I'm really struggling with the black shorts.

It feels like we're playing away every match.

Our colours are red, white and blue - that's our flag. Thats what we are associated with, and what our branding is focused on. l feel almost no connection to having a blue away kit, and I'm sure you won't find many fans who feel strongly towards it either.

We talk about the green and yellow kit, we talk about the grey kit and we all remember the gold kit. A bit of creativity makes a kit rememberable and desirable.

It’s sad but I feel no connection with any of players. I usually get a player on the back but any player could be sold soon.
