Manchester United 0:1 Atletico Madrid (Sat 30th July, 12:45 UK time)

There is another game on Sunday, whoever didn't travel for tomorrow's game will probably be included in the squad on Sunday.

I wouldn't read anything into what team plays and what players do not. Still pre season, ETH still learning, it's game time that matters.

Based on the traveling squad, my team is:

De gea
Dalot maguire martinez malacia
Erickson
Fred Bruno
Sancho martial rashford

The team for sunday:
Kolar
Laird Lindeloff Bailey telles
Garner
Iqbal dvb
Pellistri amad elanga

Either way and whoever plays, looking forward to the final warm ups before next Sunday.

I’m convinced that Varane is Lisandro’s best CB partner. The 3 games they will play together this season are going to be glorious :(

For the first 3 weeks of the season can every united player either have Maguire or Eriksen on their shirts so that people can finally learn how to spell these really simple names!

Read somewhere (can't remember where though) that the squad involved on saturday will be the squad against Brighton.
And I doubt that anybody involved on saturday are playing anything on sunday.

Why not?

Every pre season game, ETH has started a very similar team which kind of hints to what he thinks his strongest team is.

Obviously there are 2 places that are not guaranteed, LB and CM. Other than that, I think we can all predict the line up against Brighton.

Whether Martinez starts will be interesting. Either he is thrown in tomorrow, meaning he'll probably start next week, otherwise it's tricky to give him his first game at Brentford away or Liverpool at home.

We’re in trouble if it’s tricky for him at Brentford away.

I think ETH wants those players that are closest to be the 11 starters against Brighton to play most of the time in eigther of these two matches. Meaning that those travelling to Oslo are the presumably 11 starters against Brighton together with players that are rather far from the starting team, while those closest to be in the starting team will play most of the sunday match. This may mean that players like Laird, Pellistri, Kovar, and probably also DvB, Telles, Garner and Elanga aren't that close to be starters and will be sitting most of the time on the bench i Oslo. While Shaw, Varane, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly and probably also players like Savage, Iqbal and Mejbri will play most of the Sunday match og may be closer to join the first team than those warming the bench in Oslo.

First home game of season, fans well up for it, Toney targetting him. Not the game for his first start.

He'll play tomorrow and next week. Maguire moving to the right means he'll be playing ASAP otherwise you'd have left them the other way around, rather than starting the season with them on sides they haven't played in years.

I hope so. There are few positives to playing Lindelof.

I'm backing Brentford for relegation this season. If that's considered a tough game for him I'd be worried.

Even the team that starts the season probably won't be the team that starts in October. It looks like we still may have more business to do.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't have much of a choice did he? Will be different now with Martinez and Eriksen, but doubtful they will start EPL games.

Be interesting if Ronaldo plays against Rayo on Sunday and the reception he'll receive if he does

We’ll be heavily outnumbered by the sheer amount of Atleti fans tomorrow.

Not really. Brentford are one of the few teams that still play direct football in the PL and Toney gave a lot of good defenders a hard time physically last year. Even if that was a weak point, it’s one very few current PL teams are well placed to exploit.

Martial
Rashford ------------------------ Sancho
Fred - Bruno
Garner

Would like to see this front 6. We've seen Fred as a 6, we know what he offers in that position. Would like to see us experiment with Garner at 6, and see what Fred can offer in ETH system as an 8.
Wouldn’t mind seeing this. I wouldn’t have high hopes for the midfield but I want to have a look at Garner at 6.

Don't know the veracity of this, but it highlights how light we are in forward areas if you consider the quality drop on that RW, regardless of whichever replacement we currently have on our books steps in.
This could easily happen during the season

Was Brentford away when White played his first game for Arsenal? I have vague memories of a MOTD compilation of him repeatedly being rag-dolled in the air by Toney.
