Zidane is not realistic, had he been it would have been a different matter.

Then don't put that option in the list and ask us who would you like to manage us. I get it it's not probable, but reading comments above (What has Zidane done) makes me wonder what's wrong with this fan base.

I’ve been critical of ETH recently and perhaps showing recency bias

but unless INEOS think their replacement can absolutely perform better then it would be sensible to let ETH have another 12 months. See how he gets on with a better structure and a healthier squad. He deserves that after 2 trophies in 2 years and a particularly injury ravaged season

if in the new year we find ourselves in the same situation then perhaps we make the move then. If McKenna can wait that long and hopefully prove himself in the prem in the mean time it might work out.

could just be a waiting game.

id hate KM to go Chelsea (actually think it’s a terrible move for him and time is certainly on his side) and be successful with us missing out

either way…ineos need to make a decision and announce it soon

I fancy giving Amorim a go. We have only had one latino manager and he was domesticated by then. McKenna is interesting as he has been a coach here, but never been the main man, although I would like to see him manage in the premier first.

Surely the one thing we can all agree on

Whether he’s staying or leaving, they can’t drag their feet on making their decision public. We don’t need any more uncertainty than we have already had.

I’ll be disappointed if we still don’t know anything beyond Wednesday

There's no one I'm fully confident in but my preference would probably be:

· De Zerbi
· Pochettino
· Tuchel

De Zerbi seems as if he's Chelsea bound, though, so that leaves Pochettino and Tuchel. Despite Chelsea's atrocious season, Pochettino seemed to have implemented a possession based style where they still created a lot of chances, so it wasn't possession for the sake of it like with van Gaal for example, and that's the style I want to see us eventually play. A very unpopular opinion but I'd probably go with him right now.

Maybe we should stick with ETH for one more season and then see if Pep wants a real challenge for once (sounds as if he won't be extending City contract) :wenger::lol:

INEOS have painted themselves into a corner. I have been ETH out since last November - I see very little coached play, appalling in game management, terrible recruitment and total disorganisation. People can check my posts to see I have been quite vocal about wanting him replaced.

However, the last 3 or 4 games, he has stumbled onto a setup and team shape that works - about time. The exposure he got around the FA Cup final also gave a little more insight into his attitude, personality and spirit which I hadn't really seen before (other than 'we played great etc').

I am now wavering as to wanting him to have one more year as none of the managers in the list really do anything for me personally and offer no guarantee of improvement. Indeed we'd be resetting the clock to zero and probably retaining a lot if players that need to go.

KM is too inexperienced at the moment, Tuchel too volatile (I followed him a fair amount at PSG), De Zerbi (meh). I guess Poch would be the best of a bad bunch, but I am really not enthusiastic.

I can't believe I did it, but voted ETH.

If we had proper owners we'd have started luring Pep in last 2-3 years of Fergie's tenure (City started it in 2012 before they got him in 2016). And given how much we've spent since 2013, at least Pep would spend it on quality players. I know it's easier said than done but with proper structure we obviously wouldn't have a decade like we have had.

Pep was lured to City by the good structure they had in place as opposed to ours (as well as some dodgy dealings allegedly e.g. his brother).
It is also forgotten how many flops Pep has had: Kalvin Phillips, Mendy, Nolto, Grealish(?). With City though it seems easy to sell flops and buy more.

The biggest issue with wanting ETH out is that there is no clear candidate out there that I feel is going to do a great job

(Keeping) Ten Hag, Tuchel, Poch, de Zerbi. Guess it's one of those. Then Frank and Potter with outside chance. We'll know soon.

Yep and lot of the favs who were ETH out and then were sitting on the Fence are starting to turn just like me who now think keeping the Bald one is probably the right choice, what he did on Saturday a tactical masterclass shows me that he can go up against the very best coaches in a one off occasion and win.

I need to see a huge transfer window where he has very little input, I want to see Wilcox continue to work very closely and explain to ETH that we don’t have to lose games by trying to win every game.

ETH if he stays needs to learn the following;
1. Stop being so stubborn with team selection
2. learn to rotate properly use all 25-27 men in the squad.
3. take every PL game as a cup final and tighten up the midfield and defence
4. Accept that some of your signings have been horse shit and they need to go.
5. Let Wilcox discipline the players who need to be disciplined with you detailing why?
6. Play attacking football you’ve had two years to learn the EPL now you need to attack the league and improve goals scored and goals conceded
7. Continue the great work with the youth set up.
8. As coach next year you can’t lose more than 8 PL games and 11 to 12 in all competitions we need to see a new brand of attacking free scoring football.

I just hope the managerial position doesn't takeover the whole summer.

There are far bigger problems at the club that fussing over a manager who has 1 year left on his contract and has just won the FA Cup.

There are a lot of interesting candidates yes - but not one that makes me go "HIM" without a doubt.

Yep me too and I’ve been as vocal as you about ETH out, my view it was the blind leading the blind before Jason Wilcox joined, genuinely think he’s befriended ETH and shares similar views on promoting youth and shares his football philosophy but just couldn’t believe how bad the current structure is that the Gllazrts have let fester?

With McKenna out of the running, I'd go for Poch. Good record of bringing through young players, which has to be a focus for whoever comes in, good man manager, and really turned Chelsea around in the second half of the season.

Zidane is unemployed and a top manager, so people should have a right to vote for him if that's who they want. Alonso was still on the fence when the poll was made iirc.

I think the goal of the poll is ambiguous - does it ask for an ideal manager hire, no matter how improbable? Or does it ask for who posters would like to see from the possible options?

For example, I'd go Zidane/Alonso for the former, and Tuchel for the latter.

Edit: I see I'm not the first to bring this up, as you were.

It doesn't ask who is ideal, just who posters want to manage United. It also doesn't qualify how available or unavailable someone is. Its just a simple "who do you want to manage United next year" question.

We may do another poll with just the top three (Tuchel, Poch, Ten Hag) or similar in the coming days. Unless of course ETH is sacked first.

I said ETH because I don't know most of the options and those I do know I don't really want.
And the cup win and the way we played is having undue influence on me.

A poll with the managers currently linked (and not ruled out) would be good; ETH, Tuchel, Poch, McKenna, Potter, De Zerbi and Southgate

It makes me sick that Poch is a realistic option for Manchester United in 2024.
You can't build off his style of play and become a contender. Theres a very clear ceiling and if we are going to change managers, lets at least go for a manager that can start to direct us into a sustainable style of play.

I've gone for Poch..? Only because he's become available.. something tells me though ETH could well stay after the weekend and his pretty robust defence of himself and staff.
I'm just hoping that it's done properly if he goes. No fecking leaks .. I think he does stay now.. although I was pretty confident he was and still maybe off..

So is Klopp and he said he'll leave Pool ages ago, should he be on the poll as well?

Considering Sacchi is there as well, who hasn't managed in 20 years and is 78 I get that it's just a novelty option

Looking at the possible candidates EtH seems the best option still.. Has his flaws but the other realistic options are just meh...

been saying that for about 10 years

beginning to think my suspicions are right... ETH isn't going to be sacked. they are going to let his contract run down

We were ‘only’ 8 points off 4th. With a fitter squad I think we’d definitely have got those points.

4th and the FA Cup would have been a solid season with enough bright points - Onana has improved. Mainoo, Garnacho, Dalot.

I can understand anyone going for Tuchel or similar in that he may come in and do a good two season job and get closer in the league, with the EL and perhaps have a good CL run in year two.

But if you’re voting for a manager that will need 3 years to bear fruit… I’d rather keep ten Hag, let a transfer team sign players for the club, trust him to bring a couple more youth players in, and trust him to improve us. He’s a good manager. If he wasn’t here, we’d want him.

Want him out, but still torn on it. He's done some good in bringing in the youth and playing them. He seem to have finally "dropped" Antony and Rashford is no longer an automatic starter regardles of form. Dalot is doing very good. Maybe there''s still hope

I'd prefer De Zerbi. I think he could be highly successful here.

Don't want Pochettino. I'd be okay with Tuchel as well.

With McKenna out the picture I’m with De Zerbi. He’s young a very good coach only problem is he doesn’t seem very adaptable with his philosophy.

Absolutely agree with that.
By all means sack ETH if you can bring in an obvious upgrade, but are any of the names that we have been linked with, and supposedly been talking to, of an clearly higher calibre that ETH?
In my honest opinion, I don't believe that any of them are.

I thought INEOS were supposed to have a clear plan, a blueprint for success, but this feels all so random, maybe McKenna, or maybe De Zerbi, but it could be Potter, or perhaps Pochettino.
Or there's Thomas Frank, how about Tuchel..?

Personally I'm not seeing any managers here, that are once in a decade opportunites, they are all run of the mill.
So what I would do, is keep ETH in charge, if next season is turning into a repeat, then make a change, but I see no urgency to do it now.

This is my dilemma, too.
But I want him out simply because I know for a fact that his tactics and methods don't work with the current set of players that we have.
He has spent exorbitant amounts of money and his net result is 8th place and FA Cup.
He did well to win the FA Cup, but he broke all kinds of negative records (that other failed managers didn't) this season.
I am sorry that it didn't work - I wanted it to - but he is not suited to MUFC (the current structure or players).

Unfortunately, they don't. They are just like the previous regime.
They are "reactive". In other words, they have no plan, they simply react to things as they happen.
It is shocking how badly the powers that be mis-manage the club.

If they had a plan, they'd have shortlisted managers and already reached out to the managers before the FA Cup.
The moment the FA Cup finished, they would've had a very good idea who was taking over and would've told ETH that he wouldn't be manager next season. This would allow ETH to look for another club, but would also speed up the arrival of the new manager who could then get to work on preparing for next season.

What is likely to happen is that the new manager will arrive too late and next season will effectively be a write-off.

I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen this time and time again.

Why? None of them have succeeded in football so far.

It's not like the new manager has to do a great job...I mean what past manager post Fergie did a great job for us?
I'd say decent job it's what we are looking for and avoid being embarrassed regularly, make us play good football, make smart transfer moves, qualify for the CL, things like that, nothing too fancy.
