Man United v Liverpool Post Match

He said:

The game was pointless because the majority of the team won't be in the squad for the season and the ones that will be are tired from an accumulation of matches.

The only thing it was good for was it told him even more about the ones he can rely on and the ones he can't with the ones he can rely on making themselves available (possibly a dig at Shaw and Smalling). Also said Bailly was injured and saw Smalling was going to pull out so Bailly made the decision to play by himself because he didn't want to leave 3 kids dealing with Mane and Salah etc. Now Bailly's ankle is very swollen (was clear Bailly is now in his good books for doing this).

Matic returned to training with an injury from the world cup and has now had surgery.

Martial should be back after the birth of his baby but isn't so seems to be suggesting he's AWOL.
Cheers, good summary.

I will be positive for once.

  • Sanchez looks sharp, was a tough game for him alone being targeted as fellaini.
  • Pereira is a real deal, keeping managers attention, would be a travesty if his gametime is given to fellaini or mctominay
  • Grant looks quality even as no2, not the best with feet but reliable shotstopper
  • It will all look different with first teamers back: Lukaku, Rashford, Lingard, Pogba, Matic
  • the more we play shit and underperform the bigger chance we sack Mourinho and get someone more positive

If anything, Lukaku and Pogba havent played yet and Fred is a talented midfielder who could be very important this season. They key players havent touched a ball pre season so i'd uphold any judgement until the team actually lines up with all the players.

Agreed but I don't see how that changes the fact that there isn't going to be any change in creativity/service from wide areas. Martial is almost out, Rashford still young and learnin, Mata has regressed. Only positive seems to be Sanchez in great form so far.

So while the addition of Pereira, Fred and return of Pogba and Matic make the midfield strong, the lack of pattern to our attack compounded by the lack of talent on the wings is going to make for a dire season.

I didn't watch the game tonight ( I wanted to be entertained so watched the boxing ) but going by the result my guess is our bus failed and its Shaw, Martial and Pogba's fault?

The worst thing about this game is not the result. It's the fact the Tree is preferred to Pereira in our midfield or at least that looks to be the case. Pereira's free kicks are also great (I remember him scoring a great one against Reading in the League Cup as well).

This is what's criminal about Mourinho's continuous insistence on doing everything his way and not taking into account the traditions of the club and its fans.

Ignore the lack of first team players and ignore the result, and concentrate on the way we play. The way those young players have been coached to play. It's very worrying.

Yeah, imagine a bunch of youngsters not being able to compete against a side with seasoned pros.

Glad to see the ride on here is turning. Jose is yesterday's man.

Van Gaal had a plan. It was a horrible and unsuccessful plan butvst least you could see what he was trying to do. I still don't understand what Jose is doing.

Double Agent maybe? Unravel United from the inside to help Chelsea?

That sounds like a car crash of a presser. If he's this bad in pre season, what's he going to say after losing in a proper game? The dude seems to be screaming 'Get me out!', either consciously or subconsciously.

Whilst I'm not going to ask for him to be sacked yet that post match press conference has me worried. After that I doubt the remaining matches of the pre season will get any better he pretty much smashed any confidence any of those young players on tour had left.

He wants to get sacked - that's the only explanation for his recent comments.

Is the marketing appeal really worth travelling to the US with a less than half strength squad to play for a draw? Good opposition so good physical prep, but shit for morale I guess.

Pereira basically being told he has no chance then. Reckon it will be McTominay, Herrera and Sanchez who will start v Leicester. His comments are a joke and so derogatory. I’m so glad this will be his (hopefully) last season with us. We are not winning the league or CL so in my books at least that means he has to go surely.

Jose setting out his third season pay out intentions early. Come on Jose don't leave just yet.

We are just going to pretend that this game tonight had all of the same players from last season then? Ok

I'm not sure what to say to you? As I keep saying I find it slightly concerning that we will still be playing this horrible football through the season. Our issues on the field don't look rectified. What's wrong with thinking that. I just have a bad feeling about next see. Trust me, I want United to do well and play good football as much as the next red but I can also see that some performances aren't up to scratch just like last season. And again, just to add, I do not care about the score line one bit. I find a bit bizzare that our aim was to pump balls to Mata and Sanchez against two giant CB's. I mean it's a totally valid point.

The lack of respect for the squad, youth players and ultimately the club in those comments is depressing. Fergie would never have said that, he would understand and respect the achievement it is for them to get to that point, representing Utd on a global stage, even if it only a pre-season friendly. Meanwhile Mourinho is making sure everyone knows this is nothing to do with him, someone else dropped one in the elevator and he won't be blamed for it.

Mourinho is for Mourinho, not Utd.

Oh Jesus :lol::lol:

Think he is going to wake up in the morning once he’s calmed down and regret some of these. Did anyone see the post match interview. Clearly annoyed with Martial and I think he was taking a dignat Smalling for pulling out before the game.

How can you compare a game with a mash up of youth players and a few first team regulars with a regular game from last season?

I apologise if I offended anyone with my cancer comment. As someone who’s own father died of the disease, I would hate if it caused anyone distress. Was not my intent at all.

It's just such a painful word for a lot of people and imo should be used with caution certainly when referring to a game of football, but apology accepted.

I watched the first 30 mins of our first game and stopped. Since then I've chosen to just watch the highlights of all our pre-season games. We are truly fecking miserable under this man, just everything is uninspiring about us for so long, can't wait til he's gone.

To be honest, I wasn't keeping track of the match, saw the result and said "lol it's just a preseason match, but sure there's a meltdown in the Caf". Then I join the Caf, I see these latest Mou quotes, and I realize that actually he's having the meltdown.

One of those savage Mou moments when he's pouring petrol, throwing a match and setting fire to everything  It made me recall his most self-destructive moments at Real Madrid.

This.

Not nice to see Utd lose againest Liverpool in any game, but at the end of the day it’s only pre-season and it bares no outcome for the start of the season.

Besides them 2 penalties they had were laughable decisions, they were the better team and deserved to win but awful decisions like that just make the result a little more annoying.
it was penalties 100% I would question other decisions by ref but why would you disagree with two poor challenges our palyers made to concede penalty. it is just stonewall penalties

Jose has officially lost it.

3rd season syndrome has well and truely kicked in.

He’s an absolute asshole I can’t believe the way he sulks and slams the squad. No motivation there at all.

I’d genuinely rather have Brendan Rodgers as manager ffs.

Well when you see Klopp's team. There is a clear idea of what he is trying to do and he made a lot of changes as well and still they looked like a typical Klopp team. LVG had an idea about how attacking should be done, even if it was a shite idea he still had. With Jose, I just don't see anything. That's all.

Can't see Mourinho lasting after this next season. Very poor behaviour with the youngsters, none of them are going to progress as long as Jose stays. I know that wasn't the first team out there tonight, but can't see us coming close to winning the title this season with the way Mou is going. His style of play is abysmal, his attitude sucks and his man management game is just painful to watch.

Have all you Mourinho supporters that wanted him here decided you've had enough yet? I've never liked the guy, but the way he's treating this team has just made it even stronger.
