Mame Biram Diouf | 2009/10 Performances

Yes, you would be foolish to say he has no talent. He could potentially be a very good striker. But he's just so raw. We really don't have time for on-the-job training right now.

This actually is my biggest concern for all of these lads, obertan, diouf welbeck et al. All a level above the reserves and yet not regular first team players.
So being at that stage they will always put in some under par performances and will be liable to cost the team a few games. Dont know if we can afford that.

Some of the comments in the match thread were just ridiculous.

You can't throw a young player into an important game like that, and expect a great performance when the rest of the team is a bit off.

Young players will thrive when integrated into a team that's playing well. Today we didn't play remotely well so it's really unfair to expect an inexperienced PL player to excel.

Why getting knocked out of the FA cup was such a blow for them.

You're all very impatient.

Obertan's shown an impressively graceful dribbling technique, a willingness to provide a spark and a very adept footballing brain in close areas.

Diouf's shown a willingness to stretch the defence every which way, a tendency to find himself in the right place in the box and a real enthusiasm for driving at the defence.

Helps looking at the positives when they're as young/inexperienced as they are.

Obertan has the football brain I think but he cannot operate under any pressure. Maybe this is where the 'psychologically weak' ideas come from. He has the talent, but will need a lot of work to make him useful against anybody in the top half of the league. exciting talent though...

Diouf needs alot of work.. if we could teach him how to play football, he'll be great.

Still it works in other countries just giving them game time regardless, don't forget the rest of the team has to adjust to him as well.

My stream kept screwing me around so I only saw about half of Diouf's time on the field, but didn't think he was anywhere near as bad as is being made out. Although I seem to have missed one or two pretty bad misses.

He's obviously not very composed (under-statement of the day?) and he doesn't seem to know what he's going to do until he does it, but he was getting into good positions and pulling the defence around a fair bit. Gave us a bit of movement and threat through the middle that we really didn't have before he came on.

We looked better with him on. He didnt have a great game in front of goal, but it freed up space for our other players, ie Park, Valencia, Berba and Scholes.

Thought he looked very lively when he came on 3 clear chances - which he didn't take any of but, you can say that is 3 more clear chances compared to anyone else today. Getting in good positions.

Oh Emm Gee .... he didn't light up the world instantly ... how crap is he?

Very well said, Livvie.

This is Manchester United, we're always going to be in this situation every single season.

They'll be fine.

Yep its really hard when you're playing against world class articles like Vokes and craddock.

On the basis of that performance I wouldn't be worried starting him in the next game.

So why should Diouf have been different from the rest of the United team then.

Game changing substitution.

Well in a sense you're right. Diouf was awful but before he went in we hardly had any shot on goal by our supposed lead the line striker.

Not talking about any particular situation or our current situation. Meant more like the fact we chase almost every trophy with equal endaevour, giving these lads a run of games gets hard regardless of the time of the season. Whether it be the start or the end and my concern is that this might hamper their development.

You were expecting better? I mean, Obertan has started here as the next Bellion and has already managed to turn into the next big thing, then back to the next Bellion. And he hasn't been here eight months!

Do you think that Berba had a good game today?

As it happens I thought he did well, yes. But that isn't really the point, this is a thread about Diouf but as usual you bring up Berbatov from
nowhere and in no context just to randomly have a bash.

He wasn't even being discussed, but you're just too obsessed a tool to let that stop you, eh?

So why should Diouf have been different from the rest of the United team then.

I've stated it already that he was NOT the only player who played awful today. Stating that, if you play for Manchester United, then going against Wolves is probably one of the easiest games you will ever meet.

What a stupid comment.
Trying to get a raise out of someone.

Well in a sense you're right. Diouf was awful but before he went in we hardly had any shot on goal by our supposed lead the line striker.

He also broke through their defence and created more chances in doing that then we had had for all the game. On a serious side of me now. Once his nerves calm and he finds his composure we will have a hell of a striker there. Start ranking him next season. Now for the other side. How dare you question the ONE!

What a stupid comment.

explain? to me he seems a great physical specimen who is very raw in his technique and general play outside the box.

Once he gets to grip with the basics of centre-forward play at the top level and improves his technique, he'll come good.. if he does that is.

His mentality/determination to get goals is what marks him out as someone worth working with.

We're Manchester United, we never make it easy on ourselves. Nice to see Diouf fitting into the team Mantra.

So you think that he did ok despite him hardly having one shot on goal? My point is in context with Diouf. Diouf was shite but he wasn't the only one. Berba was as effective as he was.

wolves worked their socks off today and that pitch did not help our cause. they fought for every ball and made it very difficult. just the sort of game against the lower teams you get away from home at this stage of the season. At OT sure it should be an easy one for us. but not at their place when theyre running out of games.

That's under-estimating a team that's fighting for its survival.

And in view of the fact that all the players were a tad awful, we can't declare Diouf to be crap.

thats just shite. berba had a good game
