Making the General Private to non members

What the feck are you on about?

It doesn't say any of that in the article.

Evidently. The guys a bit of a 'tard to be fair, he asked why sol left when a link to his leaving thread was in the first post ffs.

Not really a 'tard to be honest mate. You post a thread about some lad called Solvista leaving because

The caf, unfortunately, also is monitored by some people who use my posts to my dissadvantage and I feel that this will always be the case.

and then Top posted an article about pictures of a girl being posted on Redcafe.

Logically, the two stories go together. Without any other explanation, one would have to assume that Solvista posted a picture.

Assumption is the mother of all feckups.

Maybe refrain from posting about stuff you have no knowledge about?

Fair enough. Just wondering why people wanted the general forum to be closed to the public is all.

Top posted the link in response to your request to explain Brad's comment:

But how would the Caf ever get into the papers for e-stalking famous celebrities and sportswomen?

I think it is because some people would feel more comfortable to post more personal stuff if it was private (e.g. some would not post a photo of themselves on a public forum but they would if it was private)

I'd say try it. If it becomes spasitcated then delete the offending posts and re-open it.

Leave Redcafe public. If people want to post personal stuff there's PMs, emails, facebook etc.

To make a comparison, its like when having a conversation with a mate, some random guy comes and stands up behind you and listens.

No it's like having a conversation in a public place and asking everyone else to leave so that you can talk in private.

Blocking access to The General would make this place far less attractive to potential members in my opinion. Keep it open, I see no reason to hide it from the public. If people want to post personal stuff on here that's their prerogative(and problem). I've never felt the need to post personal things on here so I don't see why others need to.

thats changed my opinion really, the main reason a lot of people join is for the general

i would get far less police attention if the general was private.

Is it possible to create a single thread within the General that would be private? It could be used for posting personal stories/events/photos and what have you.

Nice idea. With the caveat of insta-ban for anyone posting someone else's content outside that thread.

Niall doesn't want the general to be private for a number of reasons and the mods and admins generally agree. So lets move on. Nothing to see here.

Yep ok,

just wondering the reason - i expected there to be one.

There are pros and cons from both sides, but i think on balance if you do make the general private you will simply get less users.

Can't see why anyone would want the General to be private, it's one of the main attractions of this place. Alot of lurkers, including myself, mainly signed up because of what I read in the General Forum. There isn't really a benefit to Niall from making it private.

Off the top of my head a) attracts new unregistered lurkers to sign up and b) lurlkers can still click on the banner ads.

I'm sure Eboue comes in to it somewhere as well.

Lurkers can also click on the banner ads just like the Lurlkers. Win win.

It stays public, I suggest locking this thread or perhaps archiving it somewhere so when this topic comes up we can all just reread this thread.
