Major Squad Overhaul?

I don't really think it's an overhaul though, we're pretty much sorted to go again. I can't see Berba leaving and we are swelling with youngsters to fill all those roles.

Agree gambs, practically we were calling for a Creative MF to break down teams... Then SAF amazingly converts Rooney to the hole, pushes Cheesh up front and lets Giggsy influences the game... Result is we win 19 and we're still in the CL final...

Amazing from SAF really...

We never needed a major overhaul at the first place, the great man himself identified 2-3 targets this summer.... 1 is a GK... Keep guessing the other 2 but I'm sure it will only be potentially good youngsters... Or maybe a CM ( in which we might get a creative/ defensive one... who knows ? )

Seriously can we just spend the 80m Warchest on cloning Scholes please? Well not directly cloning him, just making him a lot younger.

And for his own benefit, lose the ginger.

I'm sure it was a cold day!

Aaaanyway, back on topic.

No chance Evans will be sold, probably not Gibson either.

And I can't see why we need a huge squad overhaul, we've the best all round squad in Europe. Get a GK, a top midfielder (or 2) and probably an English player like Young or Rodwell, to keep the balance.

Well no because he was never worth £80m in any form of modern currency, let's say you wanted to buy Scholes at his peak today, he'd be £40m tops...

Jesus man, take a joke.

Anyway, if Scholes was valued purely on talent in this climate as a 23/24 year old he'd be more than a Modric or Fabregas who are both valued at £50m or so. He was a better player then either.

He's the best midfielder of his generation, just vastly underrated in the media.

You honestly think Modric is worth £50m?
No-one has mentioned that figure for him...

You think he'd cost fifty? Bollocks, you'll get Bale for that or less, Modric is a good player but hardly worth half a ton...

Of course he's not worth it but Spurs always rape us for cash on players. And he has a very long contract left.

We will not sign him though.

Funny thing is we'll probably see most of those names up for a 'culling' against Blackpool, I expect Owen and Berbatov upfront, Gibson in midfield, maybe Kuszczak in net (maybe Lindegaard?), Evans in defence.

VDS will play I think. Last game at OT for him and everything.

Ashley Young, De Gea or Sketelenburg, and Modric or Sneijder will probably be the 3 we keep hearing about and a couple of unheard of younguns will hopefully arrive too. We have had plenty of transfer surprises over the last summer or two that turned out to be great so will be fun again seeing who we go for.

That stopped being funny when we we won our first premier league.

£50 mil for Modric? Don't be silly.

When we sign him I expect we'll pay around £25 mil.

If it's true that our interest in Rodwell and Henderson has cooled off I wonder if we'd be interested in Jones from Blackburn as a possible young British midfield addition, I know he also plays CB.

I don't like him in midfield.

I also think a player like Nani or Berbatov could be on the way, depending on who we bring in.

I'd be amazed if we let Nani go.

As for Berbatov, I think it depends on the player. I think Fergie would like to keep him but if he wants to go because he's third choice then we'd obviously let him go.

Watching Berbatov's post match, on pitch interview, and watching his and Fergie's body language when passing/congratulating each other I just got the feeling that things might not be entirely rosy there.

i don't want us to sell him, but I do think he might be sold depending on who we bring in.

Two players linked with would be Sanchez and Sneijder (not saying we are going to sign both, or even either of them to be honest).

If we bring in Sneijder, I think our first choice midfield could be Park-Sneijder-Carrick-Valencia - the midfield that played Chelsea with Sneijder in for Giggs. Park on the left to help defensively with Sneijder as he did with Giggs. Would Nani want to be second choice? Though he could take the right wing slot from Valencia. It is a possibility Nani could be sold in that instance (and maybe Young brough in as replacement)

If Sanchez came in I reckon we could best fit him in as a winger in a 433 - it it the best way of using him imo. Again, Nani is the most similar player to him in the squad for that position and it could be Nani is allowed to go in order to bring in Sanchez.

Personally, if we got Sanchez and it did signal a switch to 433, I would keep Nani and play a front 3 of Nani, Rooney, Sanchez - allowing the 3 to rotate positionaly; I don't think Valencia offers the same versatility in that type of formation.

As for Berbatov, Sanchez or Sneijder could impact him too by being number 10's as well (as Winger/CM respectively) Could be Fergie will look to move Rooney forward again and have Sneijder/Sanchez off him in the hole. With Chico as a striking option and Welbeck back for next season too - Fergie could think it is a good time to cash in on Berbatov.

I actually feel has looked comfortable there as he has the defensive side but can also drive the team forward from midfield.

Can't say I noticed that, I did notice that him and Chicharito looked friendly, no animosity there at all.

Some interesting ideas but whatever Fergie has in mind I don't see Hernandez being marginalized as something that will be in his plans.

We won't be changing to a 433 full time. We'll stick to what we do these last 5 years. Change depending on the game.

the sneijder one would have least impact on Hernandez imo - with Sneijder simply taking the place of Giggs in the side that played Chelsea (and Blackburn and other games). Nani would be the player I think in most danger, based on balance. As I said though, Nani could take Valencia's right wing spot, but Fergie does prefer the extra defensive solidity Valencia offers.

Nah. After the season he's had, he's not going anywhere. Prioviding someone doesn't come in with a silly money offer anyway.

Berbatov`s contract runs out next year - Sell him or new contract for him?

As far as I know, the contract negotiations haven't started yet. His agent mentioned May, at the end of the season.

In that same interview, he was quoted saying Berbatov won't twist United arms for a pay raise

I think, all Berba cares is to get more than the one year extension

If you believe the press, a two year contract extension was agreed with 120 k a week salary. But then Hernandez came along and Gill changed the deal to a year only. That's BS. The press loves to make stuff like this up

I personally think, he'll be offered his 2 year contract, for a total of 4+2 as Phellan said. After all he's born in January so he's just over 29.

Also, unless someone comes up with an insane offer, SAF won't sell him. I mean, he's priceless against teams who come park the bus, plus what happens if one of Rooney or Hernandez gets injured? (Knocking on wood) what happens if either of the strikers hit a poor form, which invitably will happen

I agree, Sneijder would come into a spot that is currently shared between 2 players over 35, with the ability to also play in the hole should Rooney be absent. With Sanchez you'd have to feel the teams make-up would be altered slightly.
