Not really seen that personally...how many times has Lindelof played? I can think of Villarreal, Atalanta, Leicester and Liverpool....got battered in all four
Varane is flavour of the month right now so won't get criticised but he's looked far from solid.
Fact is, no defender or DM could look good in this side with this set-up. That doesn't completely absolve them, but I am prepared to reserve judgement until we have a proper coach/manager
I think he’s been a good value signing but ultimately not good enough. Need to just go all out and bring in the best in January. We’re Man Utd at the end of the day.
Fatigue or lack of conditioning would result in mental mistakes. Not to mention simply being caught out by the speed of matches. You don’t get the same intensity in training.
There is a thread on every player saying how if only this player want playing everything would be fine. Simply put when it’s one or two individuals having a tough time then that’s on the players. When you can’t name one player who is playing well it’s on coaching.
In each of those horrible games, he was better. maguire was far more of the problem.
Wasn't Ole the proper coach/manager that we all have been looking for since Fergie, who should be given time to complete his masterplan, or you have also jumped ships ?
That's a bit harsh. Varane has been quite good apart from a few shaky moments. Surprisingly good in the air and looks our best cb already. Our defense has literally turned to shit without him.
Criticism of Maguire is fully warranted but I don't think he needs to be "replaced". What he needs right now is a rest for at least 2-3 weeks to regain fitness. And if it takes longer for him to regain fitness, so be it. Watch him closely on each of the goals scored against us over the last 2 PL matches and his first step is alarmingly slow and he never reaches anything close to decent pace even for a professional footballer. He's just not right.

But I wouldn't mind seeing whoever is managing this weekend give Bailly a chance. There was a time, albeit several years ago, where he was consistently very good for us. Maybe he'll never regain that form but given the condition we need to try to something different.

Line on Ole has been consistent throughout. Give him time to build a side initially, which we did. Then, at the start of this season, I said he has the squad now (its never perfect but good enough) so HAS to challenge.
Since Wolves, I have been vocal about how I believe this new style/setup is beyond Ole's abilities and we look shambolic. So I am now of the opinion that based on our start and the absolutely horrific performances, Ole needs to be replaced.
Just because I defended him last season doesn't mean I'm then wrong to call for him to go the next
EDIT: I'll add to that...I think I am right in saying I never called for LvG or Jose to be sacked and backed them until the end. Ole is the first manager I have openly said "he should be sacked"
Look, I am not here to criticise Varane. I'm just saying that we haven't looked better in the games he has played, we've just played easier opponents. Against Villarreal, Varane played ans Maguire didn't and I think it's actually probably fair to say he WAS a shambles in that game.
Just goes back to the point I am making which is that the CBs and DMs are being hung out to dry. I have been mega critical of Fred, for example, but this isn't his fault, it's on the manager/coaching staff
On that we agree. You did say he's looked far from solid which can be reasonably construed as criticism. No need to rehash it though as we agree the biggest most important problem is the manager.
Martial, Lukaku, Fellaini, DiMaria, Memphis, Januzaj, Wilson, Schneiderlin, Nani, Smalling - all say hi. They are all players whose form dropped and the fans called for their heads, then repeatedly hoped to see more failure so their 'predictions' would come true.
I think yours is a very fair and sober assessment. Maguire in the England side is also a player in a very static, staid, cautious team. England barely took any risks and United fans would be losing their minds if United played like Southgate's England. The only time England shows any flair is when they are playing powerhouses like San Marino. When England face decent opposition they lose all imagination. Maguire excels in this kind of system because no one is venturing out of position, he doesn't have to cover as much ground, and the midfield doesn't disappear on him.

It's funny but ole has basically built a squad far better suited for Mourinho rather than the way he mentions he wants united to play.
With a spine of Maguire, pogba, ronaldo it lacks the ability to press and would be better suited sitting deep like you would expect from Mourinho tactics

He seems very naive. He often wants to win the ball at times when it would be wiser to just stand his ground in front of the attacker and force him to go elsewhere.

Some of us were befuddled with the decision when it was first made so no it's not necessarily a reactionary sentiment and many wanted it stripped after the Greece incident as well. Just never made any sense from the offset when he hadn't even been a captain at Leicester, Sheffield, Hull or for country.
It's just embarrassing when your skipper is directly responsible for so much for some of the laughable goals we concede so often. Have yet to watch a match with or meet a rival fan who understands it either
I would question whether he is on the decline (long term) but hasn't he been great for England. I know i know, different situation but i've been told he's been very good for England.

Maguire didn't suddenly become a bad player. Performances can be heavily dependent on form and confidence. And you know that some coaches actually make players better? Apparently that's a thing

If a limited manager like Southgate can make Maguire/Shaw a reasonable competent defenders then it speaks volumes of Ole's capabilities.

Rio got plenty of it. In his early days at the club, his missed test and right up until his contract renewal in 2005 he got plenty of abuse and plenty of people wanted him gone. We all know what happened after that.
Maguire is making a rod for his own back with his shambolic displays. He needs to step up his game and prove people wrong like Rio did.
I think he should definitely be dropped and he should never have been made captain. Nothing about him or his game suggests he's a worthy captain.

Southgate certainly didn't make Shaw "reasonably competent", he was more than that, almost world class, when he joined the England party at the end of the domestic season.
Dude Ole plays McFred to basically protect his 2 CBs essentially going with a 6-1-3 formation. How will a 4-3-3 help? Also remember he tried the 5-3-2 formation before and the players were all lost at sea. New formations have to be coached and practiced on the training field and we all know that Ole and his staff do not do any of that
