Maguire needs to be replaced

He has no positional awareness, combined with his severe lack of pace, that's a recipe for disaster.

He's a total clown at the moment, cost us so much this season. His impact as a captain isn't there either, he's the first to crumble when we're under pressure.

Damn Harry, what happened? This is not the Maguire from last season.

How the feck did he become our captain anyway ? He just walked in and was immediately given the armband. Oh yeah, it's our genius manager's fecking decision to make him United's captain.

Absolutely woeful. Worst CB this club has seen in many years. Somehow gets a spot in the team due to some mysterious influence over the manger and the dressing room, which at the same time is never apparent in him as a captain. That along with him being English and an 80m signing keeps him in the team. Based on ability and from there is no one worse in the league. He's costing us a goal almost every game and he makes the rest of the defence poor due to him always getting caught out of position.

Can just see the next manager wanting him replaced. He has been good, never great and never close to justifying his price tag and the captaincy

Not only is he hapless at this point, but it also definitely looked like he gave up today. He absolutely needs to be dropped.

The truth is of course is if you put Phil Jones along side him then you will see just how bad he is. He simply never was up to the job. I really don't know how many times this man can embarrass himself on the pitch before he is benched.

At times, he's being left at sea by the lack of shape on either side of him. Lindelof and Shaw have been all over the place, and Maguire keeps diving in to singlehandedly save the situation.

Ironically, he'd look better individually if he stopped trying to correct other players' mistakes. Which is not to say he's been flawless himself. He's made more than his share of errors. But his desire to take on all the responsibility himself makes him look even worse.
This is one of the more imaginative excuses I’ve seen for a player on here.

Our left back is AWOL for all 5 goals and it's Maguire's fault? Cool.

I've said it before, If he wasnt english he'd be much higher rated.

One of the most under-appreciated players we have. He's been a good signing
I take the opposite view: the only reason he is rated at all is because he's English. He is an average CB.

The more expansive we try to play the more he's gotten exposed, which I think is what many were afraid of. He's a good defensive header of the ball and decent if he gets to play a low block in a team, but below par on the ball (even if he thinks he's fecking Beckenbauer) and hopeless positionally when playing in more space.

I legit don't get the hate for Maguire. He's one of the best CB's in the league on his day. Granted, his performances for United this season have been less than pleasing, but let's face it, he's in good company in that department. Can any United player say they're proud of their performances this season? Not really.

Try being a United defender these days with arguably the most ineffective midfield in the league as your protection. It's no picnic.
40 CBs in the league. How high would you rate him? I am not sure he's even in the top half. The Brentford CBs are outclassing him this season. I certainly would not put him above any of the CBs playing for Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Leicester, Everton, Spurs, maybe Brighton (but probably not), maybe West Ham. I think you have to start looking at Wolves or lower to see players he is markedly better than as an all-round CB. Heading the ball seems to be his one attribute but it's done feck all for us. He's slow to react, slow on the turn. I just don't see how he is rated highly by anyone.

We need to hire some random Greek blokes who shout abuse at him from the stands in an attempt to ignite some fire in him.

This is a ridiculous post, he's an automatic starter for every team you have mentioned except Liverpool & City - and even City wanted him before he came to Old Trafford. I appreciate he isn't playing well at the moment but realistically he's alongside Lindelof who is worse than useless and Luke Shaw who has forgotten that he is supposed to be a defender, and that's without even mentioning the goalkeeper.

Said it before, will say it again. Maguire is suited to deep defensive line and more conservative approach. Higher line and more progressive approach and he'll be hung out to dry.

Makes sense Jose wanted him, doesn't make sense of him playing in a side that controls most of the games and requires a more proactive defence.

Pretty sure he was reported crying during interogation and emotionally scarred. In fact thats when his performance started to drop.

Judging by this season it honestly would have been no different keeping Smalling.

I'm not scapegoating Harry, there are bigger issues in the team as a whole but this season he's been absolutely atrocious.

Yes, yours is a ridiculous post. It doesn’t matter who wanted him years ago, the question is who would want him now? No one in the top half would swap with us.

And City are not the greatest club to buy defenders. Too many flop buys last 10 years.

Its not just that he is not fit. To play this bad his mentality isn't at all right. I suspect he's on the booze. And his morale rock bottom. Regardless, he should be given a holiday for a couple weeks to go sort his head out. Matic to be made Captain or Ronaldo.

Not good enough to play in a team that isn't well drilled defensively. His lack of pace and brains get exposed constantly.

He looks good for England because Southgate has the side well drilled and he gets protection from the midfield.

No way is he an automatic starter for Chelsea. He can't do anything our defenders can do. He is so limited with the ball and can't score to save his life or defend for that matter.

All-time low opinion of him but I want to see him under a new manager. If the same performance, then we can cut loss.

Any one who really thinks Harry Magdire is an important, positive influential force in MUFC play.. sigh. I think it's just yet another sign that Ole is just not cut out at this level.
Absolutely spot on. I’ve been a big critic of Maguire as captain, it’s an important factor of the team and he’s simply not a leader and you can tell the players feel the same way about it. But Ole is really playing a glorified version of Fantasy Football and sees Maguire as some sort of Roy of the Rovers figure. It’s also telling that he hasn’t picked up on De Gea’s weaknesses in goal and the confusion in the centre of the field of Fred and McTominay.

I think people over react either way when it comes to him. Truth probably lies in the middle

He was missed for us at the end of last season and especially the final
However rushing him back was a move that has back fired immensely on Ole. Was this done due to varanes injury? Guessing Ole didn't trust bailly at all that he would rather a half fit Maguire?

The only person who should be captain is Ronaldo.

And if 6 months in Harry can become captain then Cavani can in Ronaldo's absence.

Even Rashford over Maguire for me, despite all his criticism.

As far as replacing Harry, he's ok if a team offers him some semblance of protection, closing down the spaces and limiting how far he has to sprint. His passing and bringing the ball forward are decent. But he has been error strewn recently, terrible really.

As captain...I never bought it ... hopefully a new manager changes it eventually.
