Maguire and Lindelof Partnership

It is good that Ole seems to have a clear idea of who he believes or knows is best, in my opinion he does quite right when he points out Lindelof and now Maguire as his first choice.

Luke Shaw coul dreally harm this pairing. He stays out of position and he is always jogging back when he loses the ball

I think the Maguire-Lindelof partnership will prove to be as good as anything else in the EPL. Wish I thought that about our midfield.

Signing Maguire, besides his defending will be very useful when United press. He will become an extra midfielder due to him being comfortable on the ball, allowing others to be much further up the pitch in attacking areas.

Quite clear - be good or be benched

Nothing disputable about what Ole is saying, the only contentious point might be in regards to Axel’s standing. Is he first choice sub? Second choice? Does he stand a chance of gaining significant development after his loan? Interesting time.

I'm not one of those 'he can defend a little and pass a little, let's play him as a DM' but I think it would be interesting to see him there IF that's the only way he can get on the pitch i.e cup games and when Ole decides he needs to play the other CBs ahead of him.

This will be their biggest test for sure. So far this season anyway. Fingers cross, they pass with flying colors!

To be fair, this is essentially Mourinho's CB pairing...

He bought Lindelof as a relatively unknown player, and he wanted Maguire yet was vetoed (only for Maguire to be bought the following Summer for more).

This is a CB pairing of Mourinho's design - rather than anyone else's.

True but he would have had Fellaini and Matic sitting deep in front of them to offer further protection

Yeah, probably true!

Though it doesn't discount the initial point - if Lindelof / Bailly and Maguire form a solid CB unit, it was essentially Mourinho's design.

But as you said, the footy would've been dull anyway, probably.

doubtful, we know Mourinho likes physical brutes and physical football. It would have been Smalling and Maguire, Lindelof was considered a bust by him in his first year.

He seems to be 3rd choice now which is great, with both cup competitions and the Europa, plus back up for league games I think he will get plenty of game time this season, buzzing that he seems to be first choice behind Harry and Vic

Looked very good together against Chelsea but tonight is the first major test for both Harry & Victor. Jota & Jimenez are a fantastic partnership and can definitely cause us or any team problems on their day.

Will be interesting to see.

Based on what? Tuanzabe didn't even played in preseason when Maguire hadn't arrived. I'd say Smalling is third choice and Tuanzabe 5th at best.

What? Are you guessing, or just making shit up? Tuanzebe featured in all of our pre-season games, and was the sole CB on the bench against Chelsea, and again today. Smalling certainly isn't third choice, and Tuanzebe shure as shit isn't 5th.

Didn't know Tuanzebe was that versatile, that explains why he's 3rd choice CB.

Solid as feck so far. Nobody will be perfect, even Rio and Vidic made mistakes or had shit games on occasion, but it looks very balanced.

Not true. He bought Bailly and Lindeleof when he had a chance...cost him Woodward,s confidence.

I was sceptical, but they look solid and calm at the back which is what you want.

I think Axel could displace Lindelof during the season, but so far so good

Tuanzabe is literally 3rd choice based on the match day squads of our first 2 competitive games
Not to mention the claim that Tuanzebe didn't play in preseason, when he actually played in every game.

Solid. Couple of misplaced passes from Lindelof but he was looking for incisive pass through the lines.

Feel very confident watching those two together.

This partnership is looking very solid so far. With time to gel I can see them complimenting each other very well, the whole team look confident in the back four. They are certainly passing it around well too.

Very good again, and also the partnerships with the full backs forming. Lindelof and AWB, and Shaw and Maguire.

I don't quite understand the love for Tuanzebe. He looks good but right now he is literally just a prospect with less than a handful of games under his belt. Our fans have a habit of clinging on to the hope every academy defender will turn into Jaap Stam. There's no way we should be throwing him in the deep end, let him come into the team when he's ready.

Thought they did fine. Goal was a long distance screamer - can't blame them for it.

Maguire has had a bit of a shocker in the second half tbh.

I wouldn't go that far. Shaw was exhausted from chasing Traore so Maguire was left exposed as Wolves overloaded that side, but still we didn't concede in open play.

Maguire will have an off day, and at some point one of Lindelof's mistakes will cost us a goal, but for the first time in years we don't have much to worry about with our defence.

They both looked a bit shaky after it went 1-1 but I think overall they were pretty good.

A world away from having the chuckle brothers back there.

What ?

As in, actually fecking what ?

Horrible pack passes - on another day he costs us a goal doing that backpass to De Gea without looking. You get punished doing that at 5 aside ffs.

He lost so much composure in the second half. The corner he gave away for the goal could have been avoided. If you can't see the difference between the first half and the second half then I don't know what to say.
