As scrappy said previously, being able to pass the ball isnt enough.....he was decent and thats it, could play himself out of trouble occasionally but a lot of times he would lump it up forward(and we talking mostly about individual burst of press rather then a organized team one).
That's a rather vague opinion IMO. In general, the best way to beat an organized press is to just quickly pass it out or just straight up beat the guy if it's only one player directly pressing you, but to ascertain if someone will be a liability against a press, you have to first determine what they're exactly up against.

There are different ways to press - one is to force the ball out to wider areas and attack the opposition FBs (which GSTQ hasn't done here) or have a deeper press that is more effective for central play or man mark high up the pitch, or gang press or whatever. So if this was a press intended to force the ball wider and win the ball off Maldini specifically then I'd understand the comments against him, but GSTQ hasn't specified that as a tactic here and he just says "press collectively as a team" which is like saying you want ice cream but failing to specify the flavour. It's also not a gang press in my view, because the gif image he's shared actually shows that the team more or less maintain their shape rather than attack the ball carrier with everything they've got. So I can only assume it's a man for man press that maintains a 4-4-2 shape and for that, Maldini will more often than not be up against Finney and I don't see that as being a huge problem for him as he'd just shield the ball and get around him or slip away from him to make a safe pass - The video I shared shows numerous instances of him doing exactly that and that's more than enough to deal with the press challenge on offer here.

It's not man to man. Sacchi's Milan was zonal based. But it's true, they did maintain the shape. They compressed the whole team of 10 down to 25 yards with 2 banks of 4 and the forwards upfront, so it always looked like a 4-4-2. But since they compressed the play area to so little depending on where the ball was, it was possible to gang press every opponent.

Now you could argue that the opponent could just hoof it up or break the system with a single pass of > 25 yards with accuracy, but that is where the offside trap his team perfected came into play. The below video explains it very nicely with footage

I agree with most but considering how little we get from people in tactics department you take it as it is so if there is a mention of press you just assume we talking about high press not the deep one unless its mention that specifically because thats kind off covered in another vague term of counter-attack. I guess thats what you get after zillion draft games, personally im not a fan of it but feck it.
