'tis a silly place
Nice of him. This is apparently a "boost" to Man Utd

Excerpt:
"He earns a basic salary of about £150,000 a week, which would rise should new terms be agreed."

Not against a new contract for Shaw although I don't feel he should be getting a raise. Of course we know that extensions for players of a certain age invariably do include a wage increase, so it's par for the course.

150k? Isn't Cancelo on like half of that?

We fecking never learn.

So glad to hear he’s open to listening to the offer our club will make. What a kind man.

He's not even good. No one besides maybe Newcastle would offer him that sort of money, really hope we don't offer him a new contract or at the very least a raise. This sounds more like a brief on his end though.

As an aside, both De Gea and Rashford currently are contracted until 2023. These are two additional players on massively inflated wages. Fernandes has also not signed any sort of extension since joining and will invariably want parity with the highest earners.

Chance for the club to learn from their mistakes? Or continue the cycle?

Arguably now 2nd choice behind Telles, nice of him to be open to increasing his 150k a week salary though.

If we don't make Europe every first team players need to get their wages cut.

Ya right. So this is already our "rumoured" salary for defense, including GK and 1 backup in each position

GK (375k + 100k)
RB (90k + 75k)
CB (310k + 180k + 120k + 80k)
LB (150k + 90k)

Andy Robertson was on 75K a week at Liverpool. He signed a new contract this Summer for 100K. He deserved it after winning the premier league and champions league.

Luke Shaw has had one good half season in 8 years. He is currently on 150K a year and will probably sign a new contract for 200K.

Jota is on 90K a week, Rashford is on 200K.

Nah. He signed a new contract and will probably sign another one soon enough if he keeps this level of form going.

I have no issue with Shaw earning £150k with last seasons form, but he’s done nothing to earn a pay rise this season.

I get people mocking that this is a "boost" and he is "open" to a new contract but to be fair to Luke, those are the words of the journalists spinning this non story. I would hope that we wait on the new Manager and get clarity over who he rates before concluding any extensions but if the nextr boss wants Luke or any other playing approaching the end end of their current deal then it makes perfect sense to start negotiating this summer.

Surely not. Maybe half in Italian (net) reporting. 150k isn't that much for a starter at an European top club.

He was until his recent contract extension, which, according to Chris Wheeler, should give him a boost on his £80k/week terms. Then there's David McDonnell calling this a "bumper contract extension", hinting at a pay increase.

Anyways, Shaw will have a tough time looking for a contract extension given that he's no longer United's clear first-choice left back.

I don't really. These lists are assembled from all sorts of sources of various levels of quality or provenance, and players who came from Italy or Spain often have figures reported by Italian or Spanish sources which are then taken over into English conventions (pounds per week gross) without bothering to pay attention to details like whether the original figure is net or gross. It's just a 100% difference, after all

But of course, I don't know either way, we'd need to check and research sources. And even then you never know about salaries. What's certain is if Cancelo is performing like this, at City, for 5m € per year, his agent will have by now had a strong word with the board.. he's worth thrice that now, entering his prime years.

Hopefully the former.

I agree with you, I think such lists are generally highly unlike to be correct for the same reasons but just figured I'd share the source that imagine the chap you were responding to had seen.

Not our biggest problem by any stretch of the imagination, but he is still responsible for some of the most catastrophic defending we have seen in recent years (along with Maguire, of course).

The fact that he has been overtaken by a frankly average player in Telles says it all. I wouldn't necessarily mind him sticking around, but I certainly would mind him getting a pay rise.

151k is still considered a pay rise right? This club is taking the piss if we end up giving him a payrise to above 160k.

It's quite possible that Shaw's team has briefed this story. There is no reason I can see otherwise for Jamie Jackson to frame it like Luke Shaw is doing us a favor by extending on an increased salary. It's not like this is the kind of sensationalism that sells papers, is it?

Exactly why your wage bill is absurdly higher than everyone else’s. Useless Ed’s legacy.

The wording is still Jamie's though and the fact is that anyone who has a contract expiring in 2023 will need to be renewed or sold this summer if we are run like a proper club. The 1 year option is meaningless as that inevitably gets run down and we have no leverage. Pogba's deal was due to expire in 2021 with a 1 year option and so we could and should have sold him in 2020 unless he agreed to extend but we dithered and when this summer rolled around and we triggered the 12 months he knew he had all the cards and so declined contract talks and was not interested in a transfer that would reduce the amount he could get as a free agent.
