how can chelsea could not offer him first team football?ashley cole is no longer jose's golden boy, azpilicueta is a right back by all means and betrand is never going to be good enough for them.

their situation at LB is almost similar to us albeit not as bad as we are at this moment.

having said this it would be great if we can sign him. he can be our LB for the next 12 13 years easily.
 
I would be delighted with this transfer! Mata, a good CM and Shaw and we are good to go for the fightback work and challenging on all fronts next season.

Not true.

Cole lost his starting place to Azpilicueta, who is a RB, that should tell you something. Bertrand was just sent on loan to Villa, which pretty much confirms that Mourinho is looking to offload him in the summer.

Shaw is definitely someone we're interested in, but I don't know if we're ready to go after him in January.

Shaw and Barkley are classic United targets, the fee for Shaw is steep given his inexperience, but long term he'd be a great bit of business like Jones and Smalling IMO.

Shaw supporting Chelsea will give them nothing unless he thinks he can get around the same amount of game-time and money for both clubs.
Considering Chelsea have Azpilicueta, Cole & Bertrand while we have Buttner (Evra & Fabios contract running out) I'd say he is more likely to nail down a place in our starting XI.
I don't think money would be an issue for either club.

My point is that it's not highly unlikely that Shaw would come to United, not that he definitely would or that it would be way higher chances for that.

Mourinho isn't quite so trusting with young players so I don't think he would walk into their side at all.

I like Shaw, he's got bags of potential. The step up from Southampton to a club the size of those he's being linked with is massive though. I don't think he'd walk into the side of any of those he's being linked to.

If they are truly special (ie. Varane) then he will, especially as he isn't a fan of Cole.

I don't see a problem with that price - he is 18 years old and if he turns out the way it looks - the cost of the transfer could easily be as low as £1.5 million each season as he could be a first-team regular for well over 10 years
 
22.5m is really steep for a teenage fullback. But if there was ever a left back that fits our needs/profile perfectly, its Luke Shaw. He is English, a rising star and has bags of potential to go on and become England's left back for the next decade. Even at 22.5m I can see how its a gamble worth taking.
 
Mourinho doesnt seem to have any reservations whatsoever about playing a right footed player at left back and Azpilecueta has done a good job there for him. In fact I suspect he'd be giving Fabio a couple of games :lol: Chelsea also have the young Brazilian right back Wallace who they loaned out to Inter. Perhaps it could even be Azpilecueta on the left and Wallace on the right in years to come. While it'd be no surprise at all for Chelsea to push hard to sign Shaw, they do have other options already at the club and we have no idea what Mourinho wants to do with his backline.
 
How much did we pay for Anderson, and how old was he?

Is shaw really that good? Everytime I've watched him he's been ok but nothing special. Seems more like a defensive fullback with average attacking capabilities, which won't really suit us if we look to play mata or kagawa on that left side as the full back would need to provide the width. Would prefer coentrao.

No one is a world beater at 18 and playing Mata on that left side is a reason why we need a defensively capable fullback.

Good, but if you had bothered to look up the background of the photo you would know why he was in an Everton kit. His uncle won a contest to have his photo taken and he took Steven who's entire immediate family were Liverpool supporters. His uncle did this without telling Steven's dad. His dad was apparently furious.

Ramsey supported us, where did he go? Zaha supported Arsenal yet he chose us. Ferdinand supports Liverpool.

Rio Ferdinand, freshly linked with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, has risked the displeasure ofManchester United fans by confessing to a previously undocumented respect for Liverpool's past stars.

Ferdinand told his club's official TV channel, MUTV: "As a kid, Liverpool were the team that were doing well, with the likes of John Barnes and John Aldridge, and United weren't really winning anything.

Hope our alleged bid for him is legit. Him and Mata would be two wonderful players to capture in the window. 22 million is a more than fair offer for a young full-back. Southampton should be tempted with that offer at the best of times and with their new chairperson they look to be in more of a position to welcome offers for their players.
 
Think this is probably going to happen. I don't think Moyes really likes Buttner, and i think the only reason Buttner has stayed so far, despite all his agent talks about him leaving on loan... is because Evra's knee injury that he seems to be playing with.
