Luke Shaw and Ashley Young Injuries

He's been saying he's got to prove himself all last season.

Shaw won't make it here. He has the talent maybe but not the mentality imo. Perhaps he'd of been better at Southampton for a few years to let himself grow up a bit before the big move.

Wouldn't surprise me if Shaw is seen as one of the best left backs in the league in a few seasons time playing somewhere like Everton or Spurs.

This is the year that Shaw either sorts himself out and stays fit to boot, or we need to get rid. I can see him being the next Phil Jones...lots of potential, never fulfils it, always injured, ultimately adds nothing and just hangs around.

Shaw is a different case , he had severe game injuries ,not fitness injuries.

His mentality was great in 2nd season, the injuries happened to him were unfortunate and also expecting so much after the horror leg break was always going to be too much of an ask. He will shine with proper fitness and hard work like he did in second season.

He's been out a lot, leg break aside. Players are no use if they're out all the time and can't get into any sort of swing when they're not. That was the main comparison with Jones. Hopefully it changes this season.

He played about 8 games. Let's not go over board. He was poor in his first season and couldn't break into the team, the second was a write off, and his third he couldn't get into the team and the likes of Young played ahead of him at times.

Shaw has done nothing of note in his career at United.

guess this means Young buys himself a future at United until January

crucial year for Shaw..... when he returns if there are issues with injury, form or attitude he is gone

Oh just stop talking sense! We really need him to become the new Evra. I really hope he has a goos season otherwise he is done here for sure.

Makes me wonder why we arent after a left back. I doubt Mou truly believes is Shaw and Darmian and Blind are clearly only squad players.

The worst thing about them being injured is we can't sell them.

Current LB options: Darmian, Blind, Shaw, Young, Mitchell, Rojo.

Not world-beater, but I quite like it. Shaw and young Mitchell to improve, Blind to gain more chances there again, with Darmian (solid defensive) and Young (attacking in some game, and cover) doing the job whenever required. Enough gaming times for everyone. Rojo excluded for common reasons known.

They get hot when you sweat so some tuck them up to cool down.

I get that, but at least anecdotally, newer synthetic materials are less likely to get saturated and dampened compared to traditional materials like cotton (which feels so hot and heavy when sweat-soaked). I'd much rather wear shorter, tighter-fitting synthetic shorts during intense workouts. I wrestled very competitively for many years and much preferred spandex.

I can't believe we are still relying on Ashley Young to be a member of our squad. Even when he was fit last season, he hardly featured. When he did play, his contribution was very underwhelming. I know we're not heavily stocked on wide players, but surely we have some youth prospects who are more deserving of game time.

Don't even get me started on the madness of his weekly wage. As a result, I suppose we won't be able to get rid of him until next season when his contract is up.
That's where José, and LvG before him, disagree with you. He does a disciplined job and performs to his instructions. It is actually a rare quality to hardly ever feature and still deliver (call it "deliver a bottom level" if you will) when called upon.

Established players usually need a few games to find any consistency, youngsters are unknown quantities you want to choose when to play rather than resort to them because there's no other option.

That's his value to the manager and not a minor one.

There's nothing to justify having Ashley Young on our books, 120k pounds per week to "do a job". We're not a serious football club.

He comes in handy when our squad turns into a hospital though, which seems to happen annually now. Otherwise I agree, he needs to be moved on.

If it really mattered, no teams would do it.

Sucks that Shaw and Rojo who needed good seasons, will not be fit till December at least and then settling in a "maybe" well settled team might create more issues. This season might be a write off for Zlatan, Shaw, Young and Rojo.
Rojo was always going to be out a long time, but clearly Jose rates him and he's definitely got a future here as long as he finds his old form. Shame about Shaw but I'm getting tired of him being constantly injured.
