Lukaku's first touch

Flip it on it's head- there are many a player with a flawless first touch that couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.
exactly, well put. Also with Pogbas precision passing the first touch doesnt have to be all that anyway. Its not like someone blasting the ball at your feet from 10 yards and you struggle to control it.

He can be United's Lee Chapman, he who won the league with Leeds but couldn't trap a bag of cement. Mourinho is our Howard Wilkinson.

Does... does this mean Rashford will try to smash Lukaku's missus making us have to sell him to City for 1.1 million pounds?

The way I see Lukaku, his main problem is mentality, not his skills on or off the ball. Especially off the ball he is great. He s got a good shot, average rigt foot, average first touch (I rate using weak foot over first touch for a striker) and with his superb body structure he can overmuscle any defender, so I won't say anything on dribbling skills.

Although he s got such funds he looks like a boy who has average ambitions. He s not got that arrogance in his face. He is very cultured and intelligent. This sometimes is good, but it may cause overanalyzing, overthinking. Lukaku may limit himself because of his mellow character. He doesn't look like the guy that would hate anyone, rival or not. A Kaka-type character.

I don't mean he is a pussy or something, I mean he is a gentle giant who has nothing to prove.
So, I repeat, drtermination, and not the first touch is the attribute which he misses.

I don't know, I think he showed determination and ambition in the route he's taken to join United. He could have easily sat at Chelsea and gone out on loan every year (like a lot of young players do) but he didn't. After two season of going out on loan he joined Everton with a view to proving his worth and qualities and moving on to bigger things. Which he's done.

So yeah, I don't see any issue with his ambition or determination.

Or his first touch for that fact, just to add.

I think the criticism of Lukaku's first touch becomes quite absurd when people qualify that with "Morata has better touch". No he doesn't.

I would happily concede that he's not at the same level at Zlatan, Aguero, Van Persie etc. but Morata has nothing on him.

Yes he does. You say he doesnt. I say he does. I think Lakuku will still score lots of goals, I am just not a fan boy about it

You would've preferred a striker with an inferior goal record? Both 24 but Lukaku has scored more than twice the goals. Morata can't even keep Benzema off the pitch

Morata playing for the best team in Europe is only 2nd choice? disgracful!

It's not about being a fanboy, it's just evident to see that Morata's first touch is poor as well. It's almost like people haven't watched him play when they say all these made up things about him that are just incorrect.

I am talking about greed and inferiority complex. For such a talented guy, with such funds and such body structue, it is sure he will accomplish a big club movement. I mean playing for Manchester United or another big club is sure for a player like him.
But I am talking about C.Ronaldo greediness, one that comes from deep inside someone's soul, one that is expected from a cry-baby character. You can see this type of ambition and determination in Latin players. Their culture is completely different. Drama queens, explosive aggression, divers, hand of the god goals etc etc. :)

You see what I 'm talking about?
Do you think that Lukaku is somebody like Maradona or Ronaldo? Have you seen a young Ronaldo or a young Busquets or a Pepe losing?
... yeah, no way Lukaku will get hurt that way. He is stronger inside, which sometimes in football, is a weakness. Οxymoron

I'd rather have a calm, confident player, personally. Overt cockiness, in my experience, is just a cover up for insecurity

I agree, but for some footballers, insecurity turns to be the force that pushes them forward.

And for others, they get found out when put on the big stage (ex. Memphis)

I'd rather have the calm, confident sure thing at United

I will never explain though, how a narcissist like Ronaldo, a cry-baby and show-pony as they called him in the dressing rooms and training ground, a diver and a diva like him, a boy who cried allover the place after losing the 2004 Euro finals ... managed to reach the sky.

Ferguson was really a rainmaker. When he wanted something to happen he made it happen. Best man-handling skills ever seen in football.

I feel sorry for Lukaku as he is going to be seen as Rooney's replacement. There are many diehard Rooney fans that just cant wait to pounce on him for every mistake that he makes or game that he does not score. He had better start the season firing on all cylinders or keep away from any websites such as ours.
You don't have to feel sorry for Lukaku. I don't think he'll be reading the redcafe or any other forum. Of course he'll be scrutinised more because he is a United player, but he seems like a mentally strong guy. I don't think the match going fans will ever give him shit, and that's what matters. I am confident he'll score a truckload of goals for us this season, can't wait for the season to start.

Nah keep it for the agenda driven posters as a place to hang out after he has a bad game.
This.

We don't want them to infest every threads, so It'd be wise to have this one drawing their attention and keeping them busy.

As if that will work. People who have an issue with one of our players will quite happily bring it up in every thread they go into. I remember in seasons gone by, there was no thread on any subject that couldnt morph into a debate about how Rooney was destroying the club.

Wait, so now you are saying Lakuku has a poor touch, but Morata is worse? ok...

Aye, this place is infested with diehard Rooney fans waiting to slag Lukaku off...

Are you serious? The type of person who was slow to turn on Rooney is the type of person who will be more likely to be patient with a new signing who doesn't hit the ground running.

The people who are much more likely to have a go at Lukaku if ever has any kind of dry spell are a completely different cohort. Impatient and quick to lose patience, constantly looking for upgrades in the transfer market.

Basically, it's the Morata fans who will give Lukaku the most shit. Wait and see...

Where did I say anything about Morata's touch being worse? It's quite poor though.

Well if its not better, than its either the same or worse, pretty simple. And if its the same as Lukaku's and you think they are both bad, i really have no idea what point you are making? They both have poor touches but its absurd to suggest Morata is better? is this supposed to be your point?

My point is simple. Morata's touch is as bad as Lukaku's. So it's weird why people keep bringing up Morata's superior first touch when in fact it's equally erratic. At times they both show some sublime touch but at times the ball just bounces off their feet.

I am not talking about them as complete players because first touch doesn't make a player. That's for another thread.

End of the day its just your opinion, its not a 'fact' as you keep on claiming just because you find it absurd or weird

Does first touch really matter when he scores 20-30 goals a season?

Can't stand fans like this. On top of all that, it's extremely exaggerated. Just cause he's United shiny new signing. Look at the Pogba criticisms last season for example.

When he was at Juventus, everyone said he was the best young CM in the world and how United were stupid to let him go and now he's just a overrated "dab machine" according to some ABU idiots.

Lukaku is no different. If we signed Morata instead and Lukaku joined Chelsea, everyone would be mugging us off for paying 80m for a benchwarmer and missing out on "the next Drogba"

Can't wait till we run away with the league this season. Hope Lukaku has an RVP esque season but then again, we won't get the deserved credit and respect anyway.
