Lukaku - transfer speculation | Gone

Out of interest have you ever played football to any decent standard in your life?? The reason Lukaku gets so much stick is because of his lack of the most basic of qualities and it's this that frustrates me and everyone else who dares diss your beloved player.
What standard do you play at?

The feck is Martinez playing at by getting involved? Very disrespectful to United that.

I’ll happily see Lukaku leave... if we’d replace him... which we wouldn’t.. so Lukaku needs to stay

Lukaku can and will score plenty of goals, wherever he ends up.
He will score 20+ for us next season, but do we expect more?
As a focal point in attack and playing every game he will score that many. But the system Ole wants to play needs more from the front 3 and Lukaku hasn’t shown he can play that way. It makes sense to sell him but we will take a hit on the sale I suspect.
Ideal front man for the way Conte sets up his side so I see why he wants him. Given his first touch similar to a trampoline, he’s never going to start every game for us.

Lukaku is blessed to have been given even the glimpse of an opportunity at a club like United considering his limitations. For him to think for a second that he somehow deserves better is completely baffling to me.

Look at the long list of better footballers and forwards who have spent time being second choice or worse at this club:

Solskjaer, Forlan, Berbatov, Saha, Sheringham, Yorke, Tevez, Hughes just off the top of my head are all vastly superior to that lumbering oaf and all of them played honourably in our shirt, taking their chances when they got them, even while spending large periods on the bench.

Being able to control basic passes isn't a specialised skill for a footballer. Managing to keep possession for more than 3 seconds shouldn't be either. Spend more time on the training pitch, work harder to improve on your weaknesses and offer something of use to a club you should never have been allowed dream of joining rather than throwing your toys out of the pram and flouncing to an easier league under some notion that you're a superstar.

Check his post history and 99% is about Lukaku

Benteke cannot even get into a squad where Lukaku is number 1 choice while being the number 1 goalscorer in their history. Benteke is behind Batshuayi and Origi at the moment. Give it a bloody rest.

Does he think he is better than United? No. Does he think he is better than Rashford? Yes.

Martinez can go pound sand. It really pisses me off when managers of NTs get involved in stuff like that.

Rashford can receive a ball and leave it closer to his foot than the car park. Rashford is irrelevant because there is absolutely no reason Lukaku shouldn't expect a club like Manchester United to either select or sign a player capable of better than he performed last year.

He wants his main striker to play every week as he should. This lad scored 25 in the league alone the season before he signed for us.

Shopping time baby.

Piatek and Fernandes/Milinkovic-Savic

feck Lukaku and Pogba if we get 60m and 150m for them.

Martinez doesn’t help Lukaku with comments like that. Suddenly it’s personal and no club likes when a NT coach stick his nose into something that isn’t his business.

Darmian’s case should be a warning example. United didn’t bow down even if it was peanut money involved. Take that as a lesson Romelu.

Can’t believe how sensitive most are being here. Lukaku wants to play. Not happy to sit on the bench in his prime and collect his wages like Bale. Totally natural for a player like him to push for a move once the club made it known the local boy was first choice.

Yeah I don't see the issue here. For a player not rated by a good number of people on the Caf, you'd think this news would be received better. After all, there are plenty of strikers out there who can create and score chances all by themselves.

I think it's just frustration in general that seeps into every possible avenue. Martinez should say he's worth at least 75m also :wenger:

If we were going after him they would be wanking themselves silly at a new striker with the potential of getting 25 in the league alone. Martial and Rashford have not even hit 15.

He scored 25 league goals once and his average goal scoring season is 14-15. Going by his career that season is exception.

Lukaku since his debut in 2009 scored 15, 16, 17, 15, 10, 18, 25, 16, 12 league goals but somehow he is the player who scores 20 league goals easily.

He scored more than 20 league goals once in his career and somehow that season is used to rate him rather than his career average.

I very much doubt Martial or Rashford hit 18, 25 and 16.

So more than Martial and Rashford?

Yeah Martial and Rashford are playing every game as a #9, isn't it. One is a CF leading the line and others are going players who didn't even get consistent run of games. They played most of their games as wingers.

Send Rashford to Everton and see if he EVER hits 25 goals in the league. No one even managed that this season alone.

They might not score 25, but if they play as CF every game they can.

For a player who played every game as winger Martial scored 10 league goals and for someone who was moved to few positions he scored 11 league goals in 2015-16.

Same with Rashford, he scored 10 league goals this season and he didn't even play as CF all season.

So can we at least agree that Lukaku isn't a 20 league goals striker?

Like with Fellaini some morons think that act first, think later is a good solution. Nobody cares if you don't like hands, feet or face. The club should come before your own mental issues of being annoyed by pointing. The bottom line is that Lukaku is a much better option than Rashford, until he is replaced, he should not be sold.

Wat? We did great without Fellaini and he rarely made an impact off the bench

There are plenty of average players who scored 20 plus league goals playing for smaller clubs.

Again that was exception rather than norm. He scored once just like Kevin Philips scored 30 in league. No one calls him 30 league goals striker.

If he got proper support he would smash 20 goals. This United team is NOT good.

Kevin Phillips did not also have an impeccable international record.

You can say that to any player. He did it once in his 10 year career but somehow it's problem with others.

Shame he didn't play with likes of Hazard, KdB against shit teams. Also had to compete with Shearer, Owen. Not bunch of shit strikers.

In Lukaku's first proper season in the Premier league he got 17 goals 7 assists. I don't even know why I bother defending him. He will destroy Italy and people will come up with more excuses.

And had 10 and 12 league goals season playing for Everton and ManUtd.

Yeah he’ll smash it against the likes of Brescia and Verona and do nowt against Juve and Napoli.

That's harsh tbf. He is a good player and will score decent number of goals. But everytime he scores there will be threads asking did we make a mistake selling him when they watch only goals on some apps or reddit, without watching how many times he messes up a move or lose the ball. Just like how Perisic is still rated as some class player.

Agree, given the right service he’ll score a bag full of goal. United don’t and never have played to his strengths.
Better for all parties if he’s allowed to go for a reasonable fee. I think united wanting to make a profit on him isn’t a good stance to make. We have far more pressing issues that a 60 million fee could solve. The reported 80 million fee just won’t happen and we’ll have yet another unhappy player on big wages not going those extra yards for the team.

Really don’t get why people are going out of their way to bag him. Seems like endless harping on about his first touch, I think it was established a long time ago that it was an issue, no idea why people go on and on and on about it. He’s a good bloke and he wants to play regular football, he’s not disrespecting the club by wanting to enjoy his career.

No doubt it will be annoying.

But I don’t think my point was harsh at all considering his abysmal record against the top 6 which continued last season which is one of the main reasons I’ve never rated him as a top striker.

Martial was not even on the pitch for more than 50% of the PL playing time and still scored 10.

Makes you wonder how he did not get a decent longer run. He is so effective in regards to minuten played to involved with goals.

When he gets 2 starts and does not take the whole team by the hand he gets benched again.

Lukaku isn’t good enough for Manchester United - FACT

Selling Lukaku at this current moment in time before a replacement signs is bad business - FACT

Hanging onto him for a year, where he could still contribute 15 - 20 goals and then selling him after a potentially successful Euro 2020 would be good business - FACT

All good points, but remember it’s spelled with an H.

I don't see him as a starter next season and this is why he probably wants to leave. The problem is who do we replace him with? Icardi is a loon so no thanks. Dybala looks to stay at Juve and younger top talents like Sancho and Mbappe look out of reach for this season.

Should Greenwood prove to be ready for 20-25 games next season it would be fine, otherwise having to rely only on Rashford and Martial is to little.

Again the top 6 thing is harsh. We play such a defensive system, it's hard for anyone to score consistently against big teams (there are exceptions like Vardy). For example in 2017-18, even though he scored just 1 goal vs top 6, he also made assists vs Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and was very good vs Arsenal. He also played well against teams from 7th to 10th.

In 2016-17, he scored in both games vs City, also against Spurs and Arsenal.

This season he was poor though.
