Lukaku - transfer speculation | Gone

Let us be blunt about this. This is a load of crap. Mourinho stuck by Lukaku, completely, which meant consistently playing him for the 90 mins for the majority of the matches until Mourinho was sacked. 16 PL matches he played, he started 12 of them and played the full 90 in all 12, out of the total 17 PL matches we played in this period. 6 goals he scored, he went 7 league matches without scoring, managing only 6 shots in total during that period...And we're acting like he was hard done by , christ, if Hitler got that many second chances we'd all be speaking German.

I'm not entirely sure how Lukaku can bring more to the table. He's a brute force striker. If he has the ball at his feet running towards goal at full pace he's extremely difficult to stop. He doesn't have the general technique to function well when there's limited space to operate in, the ball keeps bouncing off him or we end up with the extremely pathetic videos of Lukaku waiting for the ball to stop bouncing as if he was a 5 year old, he doesn't have the stamina and/or agility to function in a system where he has to press the opposition and his timing and use of his size when challenging for headers is absurdly bad.

Rashford isn't in any means perfect, but he has the basics to function in a system that the majority of fans want to see. A fluid attack with players that can press the opposition high up the pitch and swap positions freely. Doesn't matter if he's not as prolific as other strikers, if it's in a well functioning system we can still score plenty of goals spread over several players, instead of depending on one single player.

De Gea's form didn't collapse until the end of the season, we stuck by him because of who he is and the alternative on the bench.

Seriously? Lukaku was amazingly bad for the first half of last season. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say he was almost certainly the worst regular starter in the entire league. I've never seen somebody in such bad form for such a prolonged period continue to start every single match no matter what. I don't completely blame him for that as Mourinho should have dropped him and made him work for his spot again, but that's beside the point.

Lukaku did have a month or so period in the second half of the season where he was decent, but that's about it. Meanwhile Rashford had a fantastic couple of months when Ole first took over, and he was generally better the rest of the time as well.

Note that I'm not a Lukaku hater or a huge fan of Rashford, but I honestly can't understand how anybody could have seen last season any differently.
Fine! I agree! I just want to give the poor guy another shot, because I think he had a bad season and lost confidence.

Nah. Martial is the one you want (as long as he can be bothered) up front. Rashford takes to many bad shoots and makes to many high risk and bad decisions. He works hard, got pace and can hit the ball with force. He needs, as been said by many, to develope other elements of his game and his overall understanding.

Would prefer to offload him to Juventus.

Screw Inter with how they nailed us with the wall with Perisic.

If we get Dybala in exchange then that's much better.

If he goes to Juventus, I'll give it 2 games before Ronaldo starts throwing his hands up in tantrums after every mis-control.

I don't think we can continue with Lukaku up top. He lacks the fundamentals to play in a Ole team.

High press
Quick Passing
One twos
Quick interchanging

He cannot do any of those and his first touch is atrocious.

Erm, I think you are stating the obvious here. The surprising thing is there are still top teams who want his skillset. Or maybe just the one team.

edit: oh, I see you were replying to a poster who wanted to give him a chance. I guess you needed to state the obvious!

Yep, I dont think Lukaku deserves another chance.

We all know he scores goals, but he does not fit our style. He suited Jose but not Ole, and if we think ole is the man for the long run then we need to back him. He clearly doesn't fancy him, played him on the RW on some occasions.

Yeah, no argument there. Hopefully he goes to Juve and we get a nice shiny toy in return, but frankly I just want him out. He's a professional and can be great in a particular setup, but that setup is not here.

Yep, and I hope he goes Juve over Inter. After the comments they are coming out with us valuing him out the transfer window.

Hasn't our transfer team reminded them about the Perisic saga? If not, remind them and say have some of that, he is going to Juve

True, but the problem with that is unless the Juve interest is genuine, we have no leverage. We want him out, he wants out, we're struggling to assemble a new team and carry too many players we have no use for. I'd rather sell him for 65m to Inter than having him here next season, though of course, I'd like a sweet deal with Juve..

Oh yeah agreed if Inter are the only bidders, £65m and get it done, get the money in and reinvest.

Along with individual club awards... Far more impartial than one posters opinion that he's been our best outfield player with zero evidence to support.
I mean he was the most productive outfield player? Not sure what more evidence you need.

He had a better season that Shaw and Lindelof because he scored loads of penalties and had more assists than two defenders... Great evidence.

Yep a central midfield scoring more and assisting more than our forwards doesn’t mean shit.

Fair enough bruvva!

If that is a conclusion that you came to by yourself - without being influenced by any overriding public narrative - then I completely respect it.

Absolutely! I would seriously let out a massive sigh every time I saw his name on the team sheet as you just know its gonna mean terrible football. I must admit i've never rated him but seeing him week in week out just confirms my existing view.[/QUOTE]

This is bang on the money!

Which straw man said our forwards were our best players last season?

Either way - pointless conversation and incorrect thread so my last post.

‘Conversations are happening between Man Utd + Dybala representatives but at very early stage. No guarantee a deal will be done. Juve want Lukaku. So do Inter.‘

Maybe we should close down all Lukaku's threads. Otherwise if Juve or Inter peoples reading those :nervous: :nervous:

Well, any system or attempt at a system which depends on pressing as a unit falls apart with him in there, so I guess any modern system?

So Ole has had us pressing as a unit? I didn't notice that.

Well, next season will be interesting then.

I can't believe Sarri would want Lukaku, the first thing he did when he was appointed at Chelsea was freeze out every player with limited technical ability (Bakayoko, Michy, Cahill etc).

Just doesn't make sense.

Nothing will please me more than to see Inter lose out, absolute twat of a club after what happened with Perisic.

If he was willing to join Inter I mean surely he will be okay joining us? We are definitely a bigger club, we can pay more and our immediate future looks better than theirs.

I thought the 'he' meant Lukaku not Dybala

So juve are actually willing to pay 80m for someone to give Ronaldo thumbs up on the pitch?

Again I don't know how old are you and I know this is your forum about man united but come on

Was I wrong comparing Inter and United? Or are you making fun of me for mistaking Lukaku and Dybala.
of course your statement about whats "bigger".... if we talk financial power there's no debate of course, if we talk about historical tradition your statement is silly and pointless… and btw the future of Inter is playing Champions League while Manchester United is Europe League, I don't know how u can have better future anyway

When I said future I didn’t mean just next year. I mean the upcoming few years. We have a solid young core coming through, we will continue to spend big to build and we play in a much tougher league than yours. So making the top 4 in Italy isn’t that hard.
