Scores on his debut, or did he? Do you think the goals panel will allow him to keep it? What are the guidelines? Note, he didn't take a shot which was heading inevitably towards goal and then which happened to deflect off a defender on the way in. IN this case, the defender kicked the ball a yard before it crossed the line, it then struck the upright before trickling across the goal line.

Your thoughts?:wenger:

It's obviously Suarez's goal it was going in anyway and the defender's attempt to clear just put it in the other corner.

MOTD analysis on him was laughable. Talking about wonderful technique while showing that goal when he nearly arsed it up with a terribly under-hit shot.

Definitely Suarez's goal, although Wilkinson probably would've cleared it off the line if he hadn't panicked and made a last ditch saving tackle so early.

It was going in but Wilkinson was there in time to clear it and should have but he slipped or shanked the ball. Not sure what the goals panel will do, but I thought it was a own goal because Wilkinson made a error on the play, but since it was going in anyways it will likely stay as a Suarez goal.

He looked good, i caught the last half hour and i was impressed. He looked eager to work and his general awareness and passing was good. A good debut for him, how good will he be? time will tell can't deny it is a great start, even if it wasnt the greatest of goals.

Definitely Suarez' goal. Nicely timed run I thought and looks like a goal scorer.

I think he'll be the better signing of the two eventually.

It is a goal which was crafted from the heavens. We are all better humans having seen it.

He impressed me at the world cup - Liverpool have a good striker on their hands but will he stay if they carry on being mediocre for the next few years?

Wicked deflection, if anything should have been sent off for scoring with the aid of such an outrageous deflection

I'll be honest, I'm a bit worried that he'll do really well for them. Thought he underwhelmed in terms of skill at the world cup but he showed a lot of fire and desire and seemed to have a nasty streak about him. All of the latter bodes very well for him in the premier league and I have a feeling he's going to be a big success. Hope not though.

Him and Carroll have the potential to strike up a very potent partnership that could give many defences a lot of trouble

Seems to be teh type of player who'll do well in the PL.

Hadn't played a competative game since December 8th becuase of the winter break so no doubt he'll get fitter and improve over teh next few games.

Yeah that's the main reason I think he will. These persistent tigerish players who have the skill to go with it always have a good chance. Hope he miserably fails and his game falls apart :D

Okay, what about, he could have done much more and got three goals, alongside 12 assists?

So scoring three goals and getting 12 assists on your debut isn't doing much more then scoring one goal on your debut?

But in your words 'It's arguable whether 2 goals is 'much more' or merely 'more'. '

This thread has taken an unexpected but enthralling turn since the original post, which was slightly pointless.

The goalposts moved.

I moved them just now for the sake of this excellent discussion.

I think he's a considerably better player than Carroll, and will probably do well if played up front.

See above.

They press are calling it 'the best debut since Catcher in the Rye' and probably even better than that some of them say.

Oh I've seen "above", another Sam classic.

And I thought you said you didn't read the tabloids?

Different player to Carroll.

But he'll play up front, just off Carroll, I imagine.

I think he would benefit from having a better first name. Something that compliments Suarez better.
