Luis Enrique | PSG Manager

Interesting to see how he performs there. It's a poisoned chalice at PSG but I feel he gets a lot of 'over' credit for his work at Barca and Spain i.e I don't rate his stints as high as others.

I was surprised he joined that circus in the first place

If Mbappe and Neymar leave it's actually less of a circus and Luis doesn't seem like a coach who would take bs like Poch or Galtier did and actually build his own young and hungry team.

I'd maybe exercise some caution with a paper from Marca, especially about a former Barca coach and PSG.

First game as PSG manager vs Lorient at home: 78% possession , 93% pass completion, 1000 passes, 0 goals.

Very early days, but looking more like his Spain than his Barca so far.

Well he has Dembélé + probably Kolo Muani, Neymar and of course Mbappé joining the squad in the near future, goals will come naturally. They were really lacking speed on the wings tonight.

I never understood why United never went for this guy. He is not dogmatic, plays to his players strengths. I like him a lot.

Think we did sound him out before appointing Ten Hag. He wasn't interested, especially as he was the the Spain NT coach at the time.

He may be a bit too attacking at times, but I'm continually impressed with his setups.. Barca, Spain and now PSG.

This PSG play really good football but he's also been given an elite team no? Not sure how that translates to how 'good' of a coach he is?

@Oly Francis can you contextualise his tenure so far?

He wasn't actually given elite team, it is more akin to what Guardiola did when he took over Barcelona. Cutting ties with old established guard, promoting younger players and establishing much more dynamic playstyle.

Guardiola promoted youngsters from B team though, Enrique just buys them. But yeah, PSG really is impressive, this is probably their best iteration in Qatari era.

He was doubted until 3 months ago or so when the team really started to come together. He was very dogmatic up until the point where it almost broke the locker room but it seems that he decided to take a step back and allow his players to be a little more free while maintaining his high press strategy.

He wasn't given an elite team in my opinion, talented youngsters for sure but FAR from the all star team you had with Neymar/Messi/Mbappé etc.

It's a pretty elite team in terms of profile, technical and athletic. Mbappe aside, Neymar/Messi were always waning bodies on the pitch. However, gotta give props for tying it together.

His football is still heavily possession based with fast transitions. You need highly technical players to execute it successfully.

As I was watching his midfielders today pass and receive passes, I fully understood why they sold Ugarte. He just cant do what these guys are doing.

My preference was always for United to move in that direction. But it is what it is.

Chelsea interviewed him like 3 times after we sacked Potter. Somehow they chose Poch over him

Spot on.

They say (whoever they are) he'd have been United's manager in 2002, had it not been for the World Cup being in December. But have been fun to see how we ruined his career TBH.

Do you mean in 2022?

Or are you mistaking him with the late eriksson?

For anyone wanting a little cry at work.

Yeah, that’s always been my primary motivator about wanting him to win the UCL. Secondary also because I think he’s a very good coach. Third, he seems a genuinely likeable guy - even as a player (admittedly seen only really the twilight of his career as Spanish league coverage expanded here).

After watching most of the two legs against Liverpool - pretty much spot on.

He’s one manager we should have gone all out for. He’d of got us playing an attacking 4-3-3

Think he is a top coach and good man.

Hope PSG do well in the CL. Never thought I'd be saying that.

Grew up in Barcelona and my dad ran a bar right next to the Camp Nou that a lot of Barca players would frequent. I didn't care about football much then but Luise Enrique was always really nice to me and all the kids around there. Always stuck with me for some reason, so much so that even after we moved to Manchester and became a United fan, I bought that silver Barca jersey with his name on it.

Really hope he wins it. Couldn't care about PSG but thought they played so well against Liverpool. Was such a contrast to watching United.
