Luis Diaz

Very impressed with his workrate and determination, but his dribbling technique is nothing special. Rashford at his best looked far better technically, and we all know how he looks in bad form.

He is still young though, but I reckon once he hits bad form he will be really average to watch.

He made one long run and 45 year old Caravajal caught up with him. That blows the myth that Diaz is pacy. :( But he is infinitely better on the ball than Jota.

He's 25. He's likely to enter his prime years now.

I thought he was one of Pool's brighter players and Klopp shouldn't have taken him off. Jota did feck all when he came on, bang average player.

Him and Jota are fine in the kick and rush PL. But they looked so poor technically when Madrid closed them down.

I think he’s class player for Liverpool unfortunately. He’s one of those that I think will just work out extraordinarily well in their system. Not sure how he would be in a team like City though, but for Liverpool’s needs I think he’s a very good replacement if one of Salah or Mane goes. It’s one thing I think Liverpool have been great at. Getting replacements that work in their system in before they’re needed to step up to be the main men.

Was gonna say that’s not too bad but it’s 10 games before the WC and there may be more games after it as well.
Insane schedule

Liverpool's attacking prowess massively declined as soon as he went off yesterday. He's the only player who can take defenders on in that team. Liverpool looking like favorites for 6th place this season.

That's a massive miss for them. Long may their demise continue

Looked bad based on him leaving on crutches after the game. Still could've been worse but the schedule means he misses more games than he normally would.

Not sure what we do on our left now. Jota can play there but he's not as effective as Diaz is and Mane was. Could do the back three option and play wing backs or play Robertson and Tsimikas on that side together in a 4-4-2/4-2-3-1. Salah is left footed, but he's been playing on the right ever since we signed him.

We always underestimate the return. He's out for a lot longer for sure.

I forgot Colombia didn’t qualify for the World Cup.

This could effectively be the end of their top 4 hopes.

They're only 5 points behind United, 6 behind Chelsea and have been better than either of those teams by XG despite having an absolute nightmare start with a thousand injuries. They're not out of the top four race by a very long shot.

United (new manager) and Chelsea (sacked their manager) have been average. Both surely will improve.

Leaves a huge gap up front. Who do they actually have besides him and Salah that work well out wide?

Because XG means everything ffs. Stats are pointless without context.

That Southampton game inflates their numbers a bit.

I will bet they will go all in on Cody Gakpo in January. It might be long after the world cup before he returns who knows plus they need attacking players(Salah and Nunez aren't on form). Maybe CM will be the priority over an attacker.

What sort of knee injury has you out for that long, but not needing surgery, bruised bone or something?

Their results have been in line with their xG since August anyway. Besides, t's too early in the season for xG to be particularly meaningful, the sample size is too small.

They have just lost their best attacker which you seem to be ignoring.

Any tear that isn't grade 3 and even then not all grade 3 tears require surgery. A conservative treatment is an option.

I’ve been saying for ages that Trent should become a wide forward as Bale did. He’s basically an excellent winger and not a defender. This could be the time to do it for you.

Gomez as right back and Trent right wing.

IMO Diaz has been their best player, and 10 games is a lot of games. United have had a tough schedule and besides the opening two games, looked largely pretty good (i have deleted the city game from my memory + not many teams are coming away from there with 3 points this year). Chelsea have a new coach in now so lets see how that goes.

Trent isn't close to the level of athlete Bale is though, and he's never been someone that can take defenders on either. He'd be better off getting to float around in midfield as an advanced playmaker next to Thiago imo.

Shows how shit judging teams by XG is if you think they’re anywhere near the teams you mentioned this season.
Where are their injuries by the way?

I think Klopp's best option given the personnel and defensive issues is going 3ATB and giving Trent that entire flank without as much defensive responsibility. Would immediately shore up their defensive issues and you could probably play Salah much more centrally alongside Jota/Nunez where he should be at this point anyways. Essentially adopt the Tuchel system with a few tweaks for now. Arguably could do it better than Chelsea could given the personnel as well.
