I am also not so sure about this transfer. Actually he is a good wide player, but the question is 'is he good enough for United'? I am worried that even at 25, he can be some kind of smashed in the shadow of the big guns in PSG for a few years - Ibra, Cavani, Pastore, Di Maria, Neymar, Mbappe. He's rarely playing and what I wonder is if he is going to show his real talent or he completely lost it. It's a bit risky transfer, but actually for that money (20-25m) he's not gonna have a big weight on his shoulders and for sure United will still have at least 1 or 2 marquee signings in the summer. He's a clear Right Winger so ok, let's give him a chance.

Gelson Martis is fast and agile but Sporting would not sell him for less than 50M which is a gamble as the player still needs to grow before playing in a team like Man United.
Think this guy will surprise many fans here, if the deal goes through. He's not just a speed merchant like Walcott. Surely not as fancy as Mbappe and Dimaria but don't underestimate the power of Jose of bring the best of a player, that still has much to prove.
He's also 22 so 4 years off.

- 25 years: experienced but not very old.
- Some credentials at the European stage
- Physically suited for the Premier League: he's more robust than players like Mata or Herrera

He isn't a Sub for PSG. 79mins this season for PSG in potential 28 games. That's a player that's been completely phased out. That means he's played a total of 3.13% of the season for PSG this year in all Comps.
You'd ideally hope a Jan attacking signing would automatically come in and give your team a lift. Is this lad even fit enough to do that. He's basically had no football, no way is he match fit. I know he's available cut price due to PSG needing to sell, and in this super inflated market he represents great value. Could be 4-5 weeks before he is even ready for 90 mins, plus there's always that adjusting to a new league settling in period as well. If he comes I'd welcome it, he's an upgrade on what we have, long term is he the answer, I have my concerns on that, but price wise he's worth the risk.

PSG spent more than 400 millions last summer and was about to sell him: Liverpool and Arsenal were interested IIRC. PSG do need to sell players before the 30th June for accounting considerations in order to limit the UEFA sanctions (yeah Financial Fair Play is a reality). Without the FFP, the club wouldn't have tried to sell him now in case there are future injuries.

The strategy was to make Lucas extremely unhappy to ensure that the player wants to move in winter and a deal before the 30th June. The same strategy was applied to a player like Ben Arfa who played his last game for PSG 12 months ago.
UEFA only look at financial accounts. He was aquired for 42 millions in 2013. His book value (accounting) is around 10 millions (end of contract 2019 so 42*5/6=10). If sold for 25 millions, it would generate an accounting added value of 15 millions (25-10). If he leaves now, there will be savings on wages (say 5 millions gross amount) in the next months too.
If Lucas leaves now for 25, all things being equal, the PSG net income (end of june) will increase by 15+5 = +20 millions at least.
The UEFA sanctions are based on their understanding of the club's business plan and some accounting indicators net income.
Yeah, Lucas Moura is fully blacklisted to make a deal happen.

And the problem is that you were wrong, Lucas was overrated and overhyped coming out of Brazil, he wasn't a huge talent and he improved massively, now he is a decent player.

You are underestimating Lucas if you think he is in the same region as Walcot.
Lucas has technically ability that Walcot is sorely lacking.
If we do get Lucas I know he would do well. He at certain games win the game on his own, but what he would give us is balance and won't allow the team to double or triple mark Martial or Rashford. Furthermore, I believe he would actually complement Lukaku.
We need a winger and Lucas would be our best winger by a margin!

Well no, I wasnt - he was a huge talent. If you've seen a 19 year old fella do these sort of things you would be thinking he had a real talent. This is from 2012 when we were all drooling over Lucas Moura. The whole RedCafe had jizzy pants for him. Neither Nani or Ronaldo would be able to pull off a highlight reel like this at that age.
Just take a look at this video and check out some of his screamers, insane dribbles, etc. It was very legit back then to have a Neymar vs Moura debate. Captain hindsight strikes again.

Although I'm by no means as optimistic in regards to Lucas as you, you make a fair point here. Particularly in bigger game, whoever ends up playing on the left is effectively taken out of the game due to the opposition's defence/midfield being able to double up on them. Having real pace and direction either side of Lukaku would certainly go some way in nullifying this. That said, he better be good at tracking back otherwise he won't be playing in those matches.

Yeah, the debate existed but the difference between them was obvious during their first minutes out of Brazil, also Neymar was grossly underrated with people thinking that he was a youtube player.
