I have no problems with LVG playing 3 at the back, but seeing us constantly kept in our half with 5-6 players on the backfoot against Arsenal's attack is torturing. LVG needs to sort out the setup for the 2nd half, we can't just keep standing off them and soaking up the pressure.

Three at the back is half the problem when the centre backs are laying it off the one another all game and inviting pressure.

Genius

I don't think only the formation is our issue today. Young and Valencia are our fullbacks, we are playing with 2 young lads and Smalling as CB, so any back 4 combination could be a huge disaster. Yeah we should attack more, but with our injuries our balance is so fecked, if we just don't concede and win this game with a little bit luck 1-0 I am happy to be honest. This is still Arsenal and not a pub team from the 6th division.

But that can't be the way.....of course we need results....but we need a "United way"...a top 4 team would easily beat us today.

Reckon results are of utmost priority right now with regards to qualifying for Europe with quality of football being at the backburner. Once we're re-established at the level, things will start falling into place (or so I hope). It's a gradual systemic process. We achieved both targets under Fergie, sure. But this is a monumental retooling period, so the expectations have to be tempered a bit. I'd take a Top 4 finish with poorer football than vice versa (for now).

Doubt it. We've been shambolic and it's all down to VanGaal's selection.

I'm not entirely convinced it's only the selection though. Even with four defenders, I'm not sure we'd have looked too much better at the back. He should probably get some flak though for his devoted selection of RVP and perhaps for starting Fellaini too.

I'm amazed we haven't changed it. Even just to go more defensive. RVP is a complete passenger atm.

It feels like we're down to 10 men. But we're not.

We needed a win however it came, and we've (almost) managed it. It hasn't been pretty or convincing at all, but it's a win.

The main thing is that he's hopefully learnt a lot from this performance, and I'm praying he's seen the light, and that Rooney gets a chance to play up top on his own now.

Wrong formation, wrong tactics (playing Di Maria up front) and waited too long to take RVP off, made it difficult at the end - but we win. The Philosophy

Horrible match, first half was a proper disaster but thank feck we've played Arsenal today. Put any team that's not completly inept like Leicester or Swansea and we'd be trully fecked. Many questions to be asked after today, hope that the scoreline doesn't enhance his view that 352 is the thing to go. It has to be dropped, locked in a closet and burned somewhere away from OT.

Has more points V the top 6(Arse,pool,City,Chelsea,Spurs,Everton) after 4 games than Moyes had after 12.

We went to the Emirates with an absolutely decimated squad and came away with 3 points, and are now in 4th. Not so shit after all ehh. Wait til the rest of the players return.

First win away from home, I'll take that. Didn't like his tactics this game at all though, but that happened plenty of times under SAF as well.

The world cup is back :D Out classed Wenger entirely in this game. Had it not been for an inexperienced defenders we would not have even had that shaky start. Masterclass by Van Gaal.

Horrendous performance, somehow got 3 points, should've been safe if AdM could've kept his finish simple. If we can keep picking up points until we push through this ridiculous injury crisis, then we should be in good shape in the new year.

Got lucky today but we will get found out again soon if we continue like this.

Given the amount of injuries we received over the past few weeks, I think Van Gaal deserved a bit of luck. But aye that was a total smash and grab.
