Lorius Karius to Liverpool?

That explains why he's fallen off the radar recently. It's always sad to see players not fulfil their potential due to injuries, especially someone who dreamt of playing for United.

He was just voted into the Kicker magazine (biggest sports paper in Germany) as the best goalkeeper of the season. But yeah some on here just don't know what they're talking about. ;) (I don't mean you)

Who's better/has a higher ceiling, him or Horn?

Looks like Liverpool have moved on from signing average Spanish players to average German players.

kicker always had a massive soft spot for Adler and overrated his performances. The same happened in his first season at Hamburg, when he had a few spectacular games even though his flaws were still obvious. He's a great shotstopper and a decent overall goalkeeper, nothing more.

Klopp's got a pretty good record on signings, hasn't he?

I have it on good authority that both Matip and Karius are bang average and neither will improve them. Matip has been shite the few times I remember seeing him play.

Eyeroll all you like. Two average players so far and more to come one hopes!

Karius ain't average imo. Far from it. Reminds me a fair bit of De Gea tbh. He's pretty weak at crossing though so he'll get the same treatment De Gea did when he first moved to the PL.

ok i believ yu

His best saves up until Feb, quite underwhelming if you ask me. Nothing special in that clip, other then the two pen saves.

Players already sorted:

Grujic
Matip
Karius
Zielinski
Gotze

Looks like we'll get our business sorted before the euros.

What?

Also a quite average set of players if that's how you want to strenghten this already quite average squad.

The only ones I've heard of are Gotze (not signed) and Matip (who I've never even bothered watching, just know the name).

It really is an unknown set of signings.

Karius certainly isn't average tbh
Zelinkski looks promising, not sure about the rest

I don't think Gotze is a definite. No European football is a big blow to our hopes of signing him in my opinion.

I'm fine with the rest. Value and names mean nothing to me as long as they're players that suit the way we want to play. Signing second tier players for daft amounts of money has never worked well for us before so why not try and find players that Klopp thinks he can get to play into his system. It might work out it might not but I prefer that to signing Lallana's and Benteke's for large sums for very little return on the pitch.

Anyone know if Karius is any good?

Unless every Liverpool fan has taken it upon themselves to work as honorary Bundesliga scouts I'm not buying that anyone has actually seen this guy play. Excitement over YouTube clips and the fact he in't Mignolet. Can't say I blame them concerning the latter.

Karius is well known in German football. Has been a starter for Mainz for 2 seasons now and has had some very good matches against the top clubs. One of Germanys many excellent young goalkeepers surfacing up.

Can't say I know anything about Grujic or Kielinski though. Don't follow the leagues they're in so hard to call their ability. I think perhaps unproven is the right word not average.

Clearly talented and he had a great season. Can he do it longterm? I guess we'll find out.

I still think that he prefers to go back to Dortmund. A lot depends on Mkhitaryan's decision. If he decides to extend his contract, Dortmund probably won't be interested in Götze now that they've signed Dembele. If Mkhi wants to leave, Götze would be an interesting option to replace him.

Yeah, like I said it's an unknown set of signings. Really hard to judge whether this is good or bad business (costing them next to nothing) until the next season pans out.

You probably have neve seen any of them play ffs. Did you know Lewandowski when he signed from Lech Poznan?

Potential imo to be very good. He'll have a hard time adjusting to the Premier League though as he's still a bit weak coming for crosses. But he's a very good shot stopper and doesn't make many mistakes given his age. Don't get me wrong, he's not World Class or anything. But he's got potential to be a top class keeper. You also have Can at the club so that should help him settle a bit faster.

Think he'll be your first choice keeper by end of next season though.

Well, this sucks. I had high hopes for Mignolet (as a rival fan).

Signing unknown players in the hope of one of them turning out to be another Lewandowski is not a good strategy imo.

Neither have Liverpool fans tbh, the smart thing to do would be to judge them in 18-24 months time (not even just during the first season as it does take time to settle in).

Signing known players - Benteke is just one example - is no guarantee either. Besides, just because a player is unknown to you or the vast majority of fans doesn't mean he's unknown to the manager or coaching staff: Chances are they've scouted him rigorously.

Gotze aside I don't know much about any of them. Karius not being a flatheaded tit with stone legs is already a huge point in his favour.

But basically, I am banking on Klopp's ability to make stars out of unknowns as long as he gets the ones he wants.

I'd say he's easily an upgrade over Mignolet, a decent talent. The fact that he played one or two seasons for City's youth team might also help settling in at Liverpool.

How good is he?
Better than Mignolet, one might hope...

I read he'll probably miss the first three weeks of the season because he's at the Olympics with Germany, ffs.

Hopefully his name will be a chant in itself.
Current suggestions on RAWK:

Swiiing low sweet Loris
Coming for to Karius home

Karius my wayward sooooon!
There'll be points when you are done!

That definite? Germany have quite a few good young goalkeepers

Dortmund were heavily linked with him before they opted for Burki if I'm not mistaken.

If you watched De Gea at Atletico he was something special as a keeper. I don't see that so far in Karius.

De Gea struggled with the physicality of challenging for the ball in the air when he came. his reflex saves, awareness and distribution was already top-notch.
