Yeah, agreed. Terrible that a fair bit of it is coming from Liverpool fans as well. I can semi-understand it when Karius was Liverpool's number 1 to try and make a point that you want a new keeper (though Klopp isn't blind), but now Alisson is at the club I don't see the point other than to make him feel even worse than he does already.

It's just my opinion having seen some of him in Germany and reading goalkeeper coaches opinions on him from there. He wasnt voted 2nd best goalkeeper in Germany for no reason. He has a lot of outstanding attributes. Some of which he displayed during the second half of the season where we were pretty good defensively with the help of VVD of course.
He's obviously not first choice anymore but I still think he can establish himself elsewhere and hopefully he rehabilitate here and till then we have a back up I'm more than happy with.
Just want the vitriol towards the lad to calm down, cannot be easy being him atm I know i would have been in a dark place if I had cost my teammates possibly their only career shot at a champions league. Concussion or not.

He's not a robot, he's a human being. His career is on a massive downward spiral and you can see it's had an impact on him mentally and he's struggling with the abuse. I've got no problem with banter about players, but plenty have crossed the line and to me it just seems in bad taste. It's not really funny anymore when you can see that the player is finding it really tough and has lost confidence in himself.

This thread for example, I have no issue with it. It's just a bit of banter/laughs between rivals fans, it's perfectly fine and due to the nature of football rivalry will always happen. There's a difference between that though, and outright targeting him when he's playing, or sending him messages etc on social media. That's where I draw the line.

The point is if whoever was responsible with the whole concussion, didn't pull that stuff off, then the whole thing would have been winding down by now. That shite show keeps the banter going. Now people want to see how Karius gets on with life after the concussion, while normally people would start to feel sorry for him citing him losing confidence after those mistakes in CL final. Instead now people want to hear the next excuse. Karius keeps making mistake and keeps talking only brings more attention
 
I've played in games at (obviously) a far, far lower level and made mistakes which have cost my team the result and I've felt absolutely awful afterwards. You constantly replay what happened in your head and how you could have stopped it, and it genuinely does have you up at night. And that's just for weekend football, with only a few people watching and nothing important on the line.

I can only imagine what its like to be in the biggest final in club football and to have cost your team in that way, knowing it will be constantly talked about, replayed for years to come etc. Especially when your own fans turn on you and there's nowhere to hide with social media these days, the exposure is to the point where he will be getting abuse from everywhere.
 
Feel sorry for him.

His confidence is already gone, Klopp has binned him and his career in absolute pieces.

Needs to move on from the club.

I don't think any of that qualifies him as a top keeper but there you go.

He definitely has to leave Liverpool for his own good. His confidence is shot to pieces and he's never going to turn it around if he stays. Best for everyone if he's sold in my opinion.

Agreed, and pretty much each friendly he has played in since and made a mistake in, that has been magnified and highlighted too. I think at this point it'd be best if he moves on to a different club and gets a fresh start.

Watching him be all on his tod in tears after the final whistle was painful. I know Liverpool fans would argue it didn't go down this way, but it certainly seemed like he'd been completely abandoned on the pitch when he must have badly needed an arm around him. If I was his manager I'd have been straight on the pitch trying to rally my players around him.

He can still save his career though. I wouldn't agree that he's a 'top keeper' but he's clearly got talent and he was doing well before the final. Move down a level, get out of the spotlight and he can fix things. I hope he does.

Not disagree, but the point about the whole concussion stands. Whoever responsible for it did more harm than anything

Fans at games have been fine it's the online cancers that have been the worst for it.
He's only 25 he has his whole life ahead of him you don't want people to be thinking anything stupid.
Suarez got a lot of similar abuse both online and at games except in his case most of it was deserved. Karius hasn't done anything really to justify the way he's been treated. It's not like us fans know much anyways the average Joe was always gona stick the boot in no matter what.

Yeah, I'd agree. Even if it was true it was always going to be the case that people were skeptical and were going to joke about it, make memes about it etc. It was pretty obvious to anybody that the best thing to do was leave it alone and wait for people to get tired of laughing at him and move on to somebody else.

100%. Of course the bolded is just my opinion and faith in the lad. I expect nobody to share it. I think a season training with Allison and either a loan or sale away after abroad would be the best thing. Right now he needs a few months away from the spotlight not starting any games. Especially in this country where he's going to get it the worst.
 
He's no Peter Crouch or Batsuayi thou. Shame he cant take it as a joke. Says about him really. He better retired already with that kind of attitude

Looks like a keeper overthinking things, which is completely understandable given what's happened recently with him.

Bit harsh in a way the amount of scrutiny on him during the pre-season. Plenty of players (historically) play like shite during this period, including the example of top strikers missing open nets, without many eyebrows being raised. But of course coming off the CL final even his pre-season will be given laser-like focus.
 
Needs some time out of the limelight at a different club. He's a decent keeper; just an unfortunate turn of events which has led to this situation.
 
To be fair no one is making him play badly. Every time he goes out and makes a mistake, that is on him. This is professional football and the players are paid what they are paid because they play consistently at that level.

It is not unusual for a 1st choice keeper playing for Liverpool who has been making the kind of mistakes that he has been making lately to be criticised.

What are the Liverpool fans supposed to do if he lets another through is fingers? Cheer him on? Start a campaign to support him and demand that keeps his position in the team?

While I understand that criticising Karius as a person is unacceptable, criticising his performances is deserved imho. If we had a keeper like that, I would certainly want him out of the club.

The more mistakes he makes, the more pressure he will feel and the more likely it is that he will make more, making it a vicious circle. If he cannot handle that pressure then he deserves to be criticised so that it is clear to him that he is not good enough for this level of football.

I feel bad for him, and I would defend him from anyone who abused him/ threatened to abuse him, but all I have seen so far is people who are shocked at what has happened to him, and who now consider his career at Liverpool finished. This is cruel, but it is no one’ s fault but his.
 
I felt a bit sorry for him last night. Then I remembered he earns £ 50 K a week & that sympathy went away quite a lot, tbh.

These pre season mistakes are being exaggerated - the Tranmere FK he dropped was hit fearsomely hard & that one last night gets to him quite quickly. But equally, there's too many of them - he needs some nice quiet games or to be making some great saves like (other) keepers do.

There's 2 ways of looking at the banter - either it's all pantomime & doesn't really matter, unless it's outright offensive. Or ''the snowflakes'' are right & we should try and do better.

This is what people are like - it was the same before the internet, it just wasn't quite so obvious.

But then I've done similar-ish meself once in a while, so who am I to say - I'm probably right (in a perfect world) though, just as the people / persons who told me not to say xyz or zyx were. It's a difficult one.
 
I feel really sorry for him and was kinda sad even during the CL Final although I was desperate for Liverpool to lose. I hope he's able to get back to his level before the CL final and have a decent career at a mid table club in Bundesliga but looking at the way things are going, he'll struggle to attract any suitors. Goalkeeping is one of the worst position to recover from setback's like these because clubs usually only need one first choice keeper and nobody wants to risk it with keepers who are on a downward spiral. I think he needs to consult sports psychiatrist.

Professional critique is one thing, but some of the stuff that players have to deal with nowadays from "fans" is just disgusting beyond words.

Gotta put yourself above it, and certainly don't actively look up the vile comments on Twitter though. Can't do anything about abuse in the stadiums but surely he has to protect himself by staying away from the internet/social media at this point.

His career at Liverpool is finished anyway, he just has to play these preseason games since Mignolet and Alisson aren't available yet. Sad state of affairs, but I hope he can revive his career again in Germany.

How has mignolet responded? He is even worse than Karius.
 
The genuinely nasty and deranged stuff is completely out of order, obviously. But Karius's name has become a byword for calamity goalkeeping because of his own actions, and it is up to him how he deals with that. His next move is key.

Poor guy. He's a fine keeper, his distribution is good, he knows when to get off the line.
It just seems he's lost confidence in his hands since he broke one. Back when we signed him and during pre-season he was a different person.
I still hope he gets some cup run and does well, but it might not happen. At least not this year.

In fairness they are the only ones who lost anything because of his mistakes. Easier for us to forgive him, given he brought joy on a day some of us dreaded. I forgave him before he got off the ground that night!

Always backing the team on social media, never showing any discontent and just being a top professional in general. He's the same for Belgium, the perfect #2 to have and I wouldn't mind keeping him as back-up.

Yeah, pretty embarrassing to be honest. I get that some are (still) extremely disappointed with him but come on, you should still support him or at the very least just not abuse him. Gerrard didn't get any abuse and while their status as a Liverpool player of course can't be compared, what he did was as bad as Karius.

It has, sadly. Most of the comments from rival fans have just been taking the piss & having a laugh at him, but some of the vitriol from Liverpool "fans" has just been full-on abuse intended to do nothing but harm. Some really scummy feckers out there, sadly. Whatever you think of him, he's still a kid in his 20s living in a bizarre world a lot of us can't relate with, so I do feel sorry for him.

He had a feud with curtois leading up the the previous world cup and then critisised Martinez for not playing him against England during this world cup.

Here is what courtois felt back then:

He has three seasons for us where he has been in the bottom three of keepers in the league statistically, worse even than most of the backup keepers.

He isn't good enough to polish boots for a premier league side, let alone be backup.

Mignolet never complained about it. He struck to his training and talked about the team wins. More importantly, Mignolet never regressed, he still is and was, a little above average keeper. Karius has instead regressed, he is worse than his time at Germany. If Migs accepts being 2nd choice, he will probably be one of the best 2nd choice keepers in world football.

And as long as there aren't any personal comments, any kind of professional critique is part of the job. Karius earns high money and should learn to accept it. There is nothing nasty and he should stop talking, and instead focus on training....

Are you kidding me? We signed him off the back of statistical performance he has never come close to reaching with us. He went from top end statistically with Sunderland to mid-range early on with us, then plummeted to bottom two in the league and got dumped for fecking Bogdan, picked himself up for a bit for medium level performance, plummeted to same levels and get dumped for karius, picked himself up for a bit more medium level performance after getting yet another chance when Karius crashed and ended with yet another season in the bottom three of keepers in the league.

He is awful in basically every metric you can think of. And when he did complain to Klopp instead of sticking to his training and talking about the team wins, klopp did the only right thing and dumped him.

we are talking about a keeper who last year was statistically 24th out of 26 keepers with a certain amount of minutes in the league. That means there are at least five backup keepers in the premiership alone who performed better.

I can’t help but feel that the whole concussion thing has exacerbated the situation.

If we’d simply moved on then it would’ve been forgotten about quickly enough, what with the World Cup on the horizon.
