Liverpool's inevitable q̶u̶a̶d̶r̶u̶p̶l̶e̶ tr̶i̶p̶l̶e̶ dibble/ The Hala Madrid Thread

History remembers everything
True, I should've said people.

Or maybe Liverpool fans are hoping in 2045 in the list of the 2021/2022 UCL and EPL winners there'll be an Asterix saying how Liverpool were bookies favourites.

The quadruple was in their hands.

They lost it thanks to two games in May: a draw against Conte in the PL and a loss against Ancelotti in the CL. Two italian managers that couldn't even keep their jobs at Chelsea.

Klopp is as fake as his veneers. The real star at Liverpool is his dentist.

Love the "proud of the players!" shtick

Went into the match as favorites after months of quadruple talk, get beaten, act like you were Fulhan against Atletico.

The least of the two out of four, the two measly cups, both won on penalties. Zero goals scored in three finals. And still there'll be people contriving to sing their praises for years to come. I wonder if there'll be a book and/or a documentary about it. It would be no surprise. Let's predict the title of it: "What Could have Been; Penalties are Technically Goals, Right?"

Or, alternately: "Refs and VAR Go Again!"

Or how about: "We Needed Villa to Beat City, but They Didn't."

I'll say that I'm relieved to have suffered through this season without vomiting, not from United's admittedly nauseating performances, but from the sickening fawning of the media over Liverpool and the way everyone seemed to just wank themselves into a stupor over the idea of their inevitable conquest of the sport. And then they won two domestic cups, both on penalties, both after 0-0. And now it looks a lot like their two best players have lost interest in it. Maybe they want to go somewhere that they aren't required to pretend to be asthmatics.

Once we reach an era where 75% of football commentators, pundits and journos are no longer former players or boyhood fans of Liverpool, maybe it'll be time to hear the media care a jot about some other team. For now, it's tiresome as all hell to be subjected to this unmitigated love-in by everyone who writes and talks about the sport. I'm sick of how it was "written in the stars" and "fated to be." We've even got one or two sensible scousers here on this forum who acknowledge that it's excessive how much this shit has been rammed down everyone's throats.

Grateful for small mercies in a dreadful season - mind you, mainly because Courtois turned back the clock and remembered how to be a brilliant keeper (spoiling my hope that Madrid would give up on him and wanted DDG). What I can't understand is why every media outlet keeps telling us that Liverpool have a had (you choose the adjective) a brilliant/magnificent/wonderful/unforgettable season, while seemingly forgetting the clubs that finished ahead of them in the two big tournaments. I mean, even we had our sights set on the FA Cup!

It's almost as if pundits think this Liverpool season was better than the one when they won the PL. We had better seasons when we lost the finals to barca in 2009 and 2011!

Liverpool are going to show City what a real League Cup trophy parade looks like today.

Nah, he just colour-codes it to the team’s kit. Can’t use red, so he settled for the away-kit white.

So they ended up with the FA Cup and the Mickey Mouse cup for which they couldn’t even score a goal in 120 mins of each final.

Sh1t season after all the hype.

The only team that didn't win a game against Madrid in the knock out stages of the Champions League. City and PSG were much better against Madrid until they were punched in the mouth.

Salah - 30 in June
Mane - 30
Firmino - 31 in October
Henderson - 32 in June
Thiago - 31
Milner - 36
Van Dijk - 31 in July
Matip - 31 in August

Unless Liverpool spend big in the near future (which I don't see happening), there's a huge fall from grace on the way and I for one am going to love every second of it.
Klopp has carried them as their owners are about the biggest penny pinchers in the League yet get zero flack for it.

They will face the same fate we face 2013 when our players reached their final days at the same time. The difference is, they have a better manager than DM.

330 minutes of final performances and 0 goals.   5 and a half fecking hours

With Salah and Mane likely to leave this summer and most of their first team hitting/approaching 30, it feels like the end of an era.

Big transfer window coming up for sure.

Henderson has been a good captain but as a player he’s very easily upgraded. We’re gonna end up battling Liverpool for a new midfielder this summer, I imagine.

I find the prospect of the parade tomorrow incredibly small time. Premier League or Champions League, sure. Lower down side winning a trophy for the first time in forever, sure. FA Cup and Carabao Cup for Liverpool...nah not for me.

It's recency bias. There's a desperation in the media for someone else to do something like that again so that they have something to write about all summer. I don't think it's an "ABU" thing.
Man, I'm trying to laugh at all Pool supporters on here, why you being so reasonable and cool! Stop it :D

Is there a sweepstake yet for when the first mention that the quadruple's on for next season?

I'm going for end of September for Liverpool when they knock Fleetwood Town out on penalties in the third round of the League Cup, and then mid-October for City when they score 5 against Brentford and go top on goal difference.

Greatest team of all time. Couldn’t score a goal in a final this season
Exactly

And if it wasn't the fake penalty in the 1st minute of UCL final Vs Tottenham, they would have lost that too.

So much talk from their side without winning neither the EPL nor UCL.

Their accuracy in transfers has been a miracle over the last 5 years for the money they've spent. That's not going to last forever. 1-2 seasons & a couple of exits/retirements before the tide changes.

Dumb ? haha. Its the smartest and most logial way of looking at it. Being a fan of a team make people blind and bias. Had i posted this on Kops forum, everyone would have agreed. Had i posted it on a neutral forum. many would have agreed. Posting it on a United or Everton forum and most would not agreed. Statistics and watching games is the way to go. Liverpool dominante pretty much every game they played this season. That is a fact. Its fine margins they dont have a quadruple in their bag tonigh.
Bollocks. Liverpool bottled it when it mattered most. Outplayed and outthought in the biggest game of the season.

I did think it was premature, when someone stated that the quadruple is inevitable.
Maybe it was a thread title designed to get MUFC fans in a tizzy.

In any case, I think most of us knew that the odds of a successful quadruple were very small.
Still, LFC did win 2 trophies and finished top 2 (I think) in all competitions.

Yea Jordan Henderson is so average. He should be in bed thanking his lucky stars he’s lasted this long at Liverpool.

We conquered all of Europe, we never gonna stopppppp
Until we get to Paris, then we'll do a belly floppp

AHHAHAHA

Check out Klopp's final season at Dortmund. He finished 7th.

So? He's won the Bundesliga x2, Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League and got to 3 other CL finals. Trying to equate this to Ole and that the players will not listen to him is some of the dumbest shit I've seen on here.

Are you saying he didn't finish 7th because he won trophies in previous seasons? Because it's still possible to peak and at a club then decline despite past success. Almost every manager inevitably declines before needing move on to find success elsewhere. If you want to see some dumb shit, try re-reading your own post.
