Liverpool transfers

Liverpool need too many players to challenge next season, unless all of United, Arsenal, Chelsea and City all underachieve. Which is unlikely. Even if they (Liverpool) get the players they need, in terms of both quality and quantity, they will need time to gel as a team.

They need a world class centrehalf, Vidic or Rio- class.
A left back.
A centre midfielder.
A right winger.
A left winger.
Another striker.

I didn't say you don't need any players, just that I don't think you need many. From what we've seen of Liverpool under Dalgliesh they're already good enough to at least challenge for the top 4. Hell, you didn't come too far away from it despite the disastrous spell under Hodgson.

Reina
Kelly Carragher Skrtel Johnson
Lucas Moreiles
Kuyt Gerrard Suarez
Carroll

Is a good side IMO.

Too many players not good enough to play regular football for a top 4 side.

To challenge for the league, I agree. But surely their priority will be top 4.

EDIT: that was in reply to your post at the top of the page.

If you signed Cahill Enrique & Young you'd be there or there abouts for me next season.

We've seen plenty of false dawns with Liverpool over the years but I suspect this isn't one of those and I think you'll be a force next season.

Two names that possibly aren't in the mix but would help you are Sinclair at Swansea and Chamberlain at Southampton.

Cahill, Enrique and Young are not much better than what they've got. They will improve the squad, not necessarily the first XI.

I'd disagree - Enrique is a marked improvement on any left sided defender they have and would give them good attacking threat down that side. Cahill too for me is one of the better centre backs in the PL and could be their long term replacement for Carragher. And Young, well he gives them something they've not got - a bit of pace and trickery on the side.

All 3 would be in the first XI.

Correct.

Yes, would be in the first XI, but not a massive improvement.

I've never been convinced by Enrique. Cahill is a decent enough centrehalf, but not the world class centreback any top side need. Young is a decent enough player, but any better than Babel, Maxi or Cole?

I've heard that they're going to sign Ansaldi at left back. Never seen him play, but he's highly rated. Jose Enrique's alright, but the jury's out on whether he's found his level.

Everytime i've seen Enrique he's seemed to be a step above the players he's playing with and have thought for a while that he could do a job at a top 6 team.

I think that despite Maxi's form of late you'll get more end product from Young than what they have or have had and he'd do well with the players surrounding hin at Liverpool.

None are world class players but for Liverpool I'd say they are exactly what is needed to take them onto the next level.

It is the type of players they have signed for the last 10 years, and taken them nowhere.

Not really, in the past ten years they've signed a range of French/Spanish/Senagalese players who have never adapted to the league or been good enough for the league.

The players mentioned are all proven PL players who many believe have the ability to enhance their game at a bigger club. Cahill & Young in particular on on the cusp of the national team.

If anything these are completely different to the likes of Jovanovic/Poulsen/Cheyrou/Diouf/Gonzalez type player they've previously made a habit of signing.

They've also signed decent PL players like Cole, Johnson, Keane, Benayon, Crouch, Bellamy, Kewell etc.

They have, but perhaps the problem with these players is they were signed alongside the utter shit that i referred to above.

They've cut that out seemingly now and instead of these new players lining up with the likes of cheyrou/gonzalez/Diao etc they're lining up alongside Suarez/Carroll/Merieles.

On the whole they are signing more talented players who in the main are proven.

I guess we'll not know how things will turn out until they sign them, if they even do - but i'm more 'concerned' about the players being talked about now than i ever was by the Crouch's and Keanes

Suarez looks like a good little player, Carroll unproven and Meireles is decent. But it's not as if the players they have bought before haven't played with players of that calibre, in Gerrard, Torres, Hamann, Mascherano, Alonso, Hyypia etc.

Liverpool's main problems have been 1) lack of continuity. There's been loads of players coming and leaving theoughout the last decade, and 2) they have bought too many average players, not enough top class players. And if those players you are championing are the level of players they will be buying, that will continue.
