Granted you're probably not bothered but I'm interested to hear your comments on any of the players linked in Rory Smith's update below especially Lovren, Ayew and Wijnaldum who, being honest, I know nothing about other than what I have just read on Wiki.

Rivalry aside, there are some posters in here who know their football around the globe inside & out.

"Eight signings are being targeted, with Bolton’s Gary Cahill, Lyon’s Dejan Lovren and Newcastle’s Jose Enrique the most likely defensive reinforcements, two wingers – Ashley Young, Andre Ayew of Marseille and Sylvain Marveaux of Rennes – a central midfielder, possibly Feyenoord’s Georginio Wijnaldum, and a striker are expected to arrive."

"Joe Cole will be the highest profile exile, but Milan Jovanovic, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Alberto Aquilani, Nabil El Zhar, Paul Konchesky, Fabio Aurelio, David Ngog, Christian Poulsen, Philipp Degen and possibly even Daniel Agger, due to increasing concern over his injury problems, will join him."

Crouch, Pennant, El Haj Diouf to come in

Suarez, Gerrard, Mereles and Reina to leave

I don't like all this change at Liverpool. They're beginning to sign pretty good players :(

Who's going to buy Joe Cole?
'arry or Aston Villa, probably. Could even see QPR making a bid, should he really leave.

EDIT: So, how exactly would Liverpool's first eleven look like next season?

EDIT II: German media linking Liverpool with a swoop for Werder Bremen's Marko Marin.

I can't for a second imagine that level of player turnover.

If you look at the outs, there are no players who play even close to regularly and some have been out on loan.

QPR are the latest club to enquire.

I can see it to be honest. New manager along with new owners and a lot of fat to trim from the squad.

The new owners seem ambitions (to an extent) and keen to impress the fans. This would be a good way to sweep aside the Hicks and Gillett era and start afresh.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Can see a lot of those departures coming through, but not all of those signings - Cahill would be at least £15m, Enrique has been quoted at anywhere between £8m-15m, Ashley Young another £15m-20m - plus all of those other names?

I can see Young joining, and Enrique, if Marveaux is a free then him too - but not the others. Would expect Cahill to move to Arsenal

who cares what they do?

As long as United are looked after I couldnt give a flying f**k what liverpool do

After seeing Ayew against us this season, I personally don't think he is upto much.

Ayew is a gamble, and he's the one I've seen the most of out of those(Cahill aside).

I think he could be a hit, but he could just as easily be the next Ryan Babel. He's an inconsistent winger capable of the brilliant and the terrible in equal measure.

As for Cahill, he's better than whay Liverpool got IMO.

In fairness to Dalglish one thing I am sure of is he will sign better players than Benitez if he has an input in this side of things. Not sure if LFC went with a Director of football type model after Rafa left.

Dalglish only used to sign the best he could in his first stint at LFC. His signings are Blackburn once they had got to in a position to challenge for the league were all decent. His record at Newcastle was abit shit, but he won't fill them with the filler Rafa used to.

If Liverpool signed a couple of decent wingers like Young, maybe Lennon etc they'd have a very dangerous set-up.

Seen a lot of them from their ownership of their American Baseball franchise. They are very good/balanced owners: extremely good at managing their 'brand', never make the wrong public image moves, are perfectly willing to spend a lot.

Couldnt care less.

Moving all those players on will cost them something. Most of them are on much higher wages than they'll get elsewhere.

Why Liverpool refuse to learn that high turnover is costly I don't know.

Cahill will be a decent signing plus Enrique but could see City getting involved for those two as well.

Does anyone think they will spend big on players like they did in January or do you reckon they'll buy a handful of £5-£10 million players?

Couldnt care less.

Then feel free to view the many other threads discussing United transfers rather than the one confusingly entitled "Liverpool transfers"

Everything which has come from the club suggests that we will be concentrating on quality rather than quantity for a change. The academy which Rafa set up is starting to bear fruit and as such there are a number of players breaking through who will fill out the squad. replace the dross with the youngsters and bring in players strong enough to play in the first team.

Every transfer window there will be lists of about 15 players OUT and however many IN. It never happens. There's always some sort of 'summer exodus' that never materializes. One or two players will go and you'll probably buy a winger, you need one.

He's said himself he thinks his best position is infield I think, so I'm not sure about the Ryan Babel comparison.

You saw Ayew for Ghana at the WC M'n'M, out on the right wing. He's played on the left or as one of a mobile midfield three for Marseille this season. I'd agree with marjen, I'm not completely convinced, but he is talented.

Lovren's looked really excellent in a couple of Lyon games, he's certainly dominant. You'd expect him to go for a decent price though, double what Lyon paid (8m) or thereabouts. The only reason to get both would be if Agger leaves, and if he does then Lovren and Cahill wouldn't be bad at all. Wouldn't be cheap either.

Liverpool will have a really good go at 4th place next season if they make a couple of good signings in the summer. Suarez really was a quality signing

Like MnM says (except for the Rafa signings part): these owners spend big on quality signings/excellent role players. Never once in ten years of MLB ownership did they buy middling players for the sake of saving money (this is not to say they didn't have the odd misfire now and then.) They don't mess around.

think arsenal and liverpool will have a great battle for 4th next season depending on who Liverpool bring in

think this summer is the more important for arsenal - could be the one where they become genuine contenders or slip out

Georgino Wijnaldum is an interesting one. Only 20, but has been a star player in a very poor Feyenoord side this season. Could do well with better players around him, & a better manager to guide him.

Thank Goodness he's got Dalglish then as manager. :smirk:

But in all seriousness, I am quite impressed as to how Dalglish has got the young players performing that well since he's joined.

IMHO you need a CB, a LB, a LW and a 3rd CF. You may even need a GK if Reina moves on.

No idea on names but Cahill is a decent CB. It doesnt need to cost a fortune either as Fergie has proved with Hernandez and Smalling this season. Its just that Rafa couldn't spot talent if it jumped up and bit him on the arse.

Dalglish has a decent record of signings but time will tell

I agree, and certainly if i was manager 3 names i'd be looking at are Gary Cahill, Jose Enrique and Ashley Young to fill 3 of those slots. Not sure about the other striker.

There won't be THAT much activity at Liverpool this Summer IMO. Their squad is already good enough to at least challenge top 4.

I guess we'll not need a new keeper than. Smalling costs £10m did he not but there is no doubt Hernandez has been a great buy!

Joe Cole will go to QPR, you heard it here first.

Or third, in this very thread ;)

 I'm not falling for that one.

Cahill, Enrique, Young and Ayew/Marveaux are the type of players you need.

Enrique and Young will really improve your left side. I think you might end up with Phil Jones rather than Cahill as a see City getting him, but Jones is a good talent and offers two positional options.

Getting a 3rd striker will be trickier as whoever it is will have to accept being third choice, at least at the start. Maybe someone like Odemwingie would be a decent option.

I don't really know much about the French based players you are linked with but for another winger I think you could do a lot worse than Jarvis.

Is midfield set with Lucas, Spearing, Gerrard and Meireles?

 I'm not falling for that one.

I didn't say you don't need any players, just that I don't think you need many. From what we've seen of Liverpool under Dalgliesh they're already good enough to at least challenge for the top 4. Hell, you didn't come too far away from it despite the disastrous spell under Hodgson.

Reina
Kelly Carragher Skrtel Johnson
Lucas Moreiles
Kuyt Gerrard Suarez
Carroll

Is a good side IMO.
